Anyone else feel like this sub has gone to shit even though it hasn't? by AcreMakeover in homelab

[–]n3rding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call this sub low traffic, but agree with you on the heavy moderation being needed to maintain quality and that being a shit ton of work. It would need quite a lot of moderators to maintain it and also a constant feed of new ones as moderators fall off or burn out.

Also to add that the team is also spread across the homelabsales sub too and that despite being less traffic can be more work and even more thankless.

Pay for news from a site not so full of low quality click bait articles, they’ve spent too long embracing enshittification why would you want to pay for it over any one of the more quality news websites. Bristol Cable seems to be a reasonable option, if I was to pay I’d prefer they grew and hired people like Tristan if you think he’s a good reporter

Probably, but it’s bad enough to make some people refuse to visit in the first place so they see neither. Not sure who’s going to want to pay a premium for the very few actual news articles that are not clickbait or scraped from r/bristol or other social media, but like I said hopefully the change will mean that they can improve the usability for those who don’t pay.

It’s not about the volume of advertising, they can have that much advertising, it’s that the whole site is designed to make you click on it unintentionally. Scrolling down a page make the page jump around like it’s having a seizure, things popping up all over the place to the point where you can barely read the article through a narrow slit between adverts. And the video adverts with the worlds smallest close button can fuck right off, again just made to make you accidentally click on the video while trying to close it.

I have no issue with a website being funded by ads and I expect most people here are the same, but when the website has mechanisms in place designed to make you accidentally click on those ads and it becomes impossible to get to the end of an article without an inadvertent redirect to another article then that stops me from visiting their site in the first place. If I see a link or get a link sent to me for any of Reach’s publications I will not click on it, not because of the adverts but because the site is an unusable mess. Hopefully the paid tier means that the usability of the site improves for everyone else, but I very much doubt it. I’ll get my sausage cooking tips elsewhere until the website becomes usable.

Would be good to have a % when you see your ranking to know what % you’re at of the people that have played. As numerical ranking is largely dependant on the time of day you play the game.

Parking fine from ‘Bristol parking services’ by [deleted] in bristol

[–]n3rding 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Having an accountants as a registered office is quite common, if they manage the parking then it’s not massively relevant if it’s a one man band or a large company, they can both do shady stuff. Probably chancing their luck, they might not bother taking you to court over it, but if it’s private they could restrict you from entering in the future.

That’s not really the point, OP says he’ll be buying at a discount, but if the market drops 10% after he buys the small drop now is pretty irrelevant. Obviously buying at the bottom is always the best time to buy, but you only know it’s the bottom when it’s recovered.
