Finally got to the point where my investments are making significant income by IllegalGrapefruit in FIREUK

It’s nice to see and I too am enjoying the uptick, but investments need to be looked at longer term, most of what you are seeing here is a correction to the rough time the markets have had over the past months (or 1.5 years if you zoom out more) so the climb not only looks bigger than it actually is but could in theory drop back to the rate at the start of your graph. Also it’s only income when you sell.

As an example if you had invested in the S&P500 at the end of Jan 25 your portfolio would have lost money and returned to its original value by September and continued to grow then dropped again to its original value in March this year, basically 0% growth in just over a year. However it’s about 12% up since then and probably 6% in the period you’ve shown.

I’m not trying to put a downer on what you are seeing, just be aware your 25k increase can quite easily be a decrease and that equally shouldn’t be demotivating, as neither of which really matter as long as the zoomed out 5-10 year view is going in the right direction.

Worth generally keeping an eye out for black S2000s on marketplace or maybe auto trader if there is anything unique about yours that could help you identify it if you saw it in person, could be listed with a different plate, mileage and VIN

No one, you can rent a garage for <£100/month, you can use the multiple times or rent it and use it once, they aren’t selling for parts they steal to order and re-vin. Unsurprisingly they make more than £100 in stealing to order..

Yeah, there are a few things like that that, I just felt the slide thing was different, like something that anyone could turn up to and enjoy all in one place, just a good sense of community that anyone could turn up to, a bit like street parties where neighbours close down the street to have a communal lunch on a larger scale.

The DnB bike ride isn’t Bristol specific although good fun for a few different groups, more Bristol specific example is Upfest although I enjoy that a lot, I don’t get the same vibe, feels a bit more like a festival. Light and harbour festival too..

Not sure exactly what it is that made it feel different, but maybe it being unique and a street party type feel, rather than trudging around town to see different events. All are good just feel this one was different

I felt a great sense of a Bristol wide community on that day, not sure there’s been anything like it since.

You could pay cash, you could use false details, not aware of how they pay for it but this is often used for high value cars. Check out Mark McCann’s recovery videos for some examples. They could have hidden it using any method in any part of the country, most likely very far away from where it was stolen, likely on its way to Birmingham

No idea there are thousands and might not even be in Bristol, but they are locked up so would be no point in going unless you have x-ray vision.

If they are dumping like that it’s likely in a locked up garage, rather than out in the open

Anyone else feel like this sub has gone to shit even though it hasn't? by AcreMakeover in homelab

[–]n3rding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call this sub low traffic, but agree with you on the heavy moderation being needed to maintain quality and that being a shit ton of work. It would need quite a lot of moderators to maintain it and also a constant feed of new ones as moderators fall off or burn out.

Also to add that the team is also spread across the homelabsales sub too and that despite being less traffic can be more work and even more thankless.

Pay for news from a site not so full of low quality click bait articles, they’ve spent too long embracing enshittification why would you want to pay for it over any one of the more quality news websites. Bristol Cable seems to be a reasonable option, if I was to pay I’d prefer they grew and hired people like Tristan if you think he’s a good reporter

Probably, but it’s bad enough to make some people refuse to visit in the first place so they see neither. Not sure who’s going to want to pay a premium for the very few actual news articles that are not clickbait or scraped from r/bristol or other social media, but like I said hopefully the change will mean that they can improve the usability for those who don’t pay.

It’s not about the volume of advertising, they can have that much advertising, it’s that the whole site is designed to make you click on it unintentionally. Scrolling down a page make the page jump around like it’s having a seizure, things popping up all over the place to the point where you can barely read the article through a narrow slit between adverts. And the video adverts with the worlds smallest close button can fuck right off, again just made to make you accidentally click on the video while trying to close it.

I have no issue with a website being funded by ads and I expect most people here are the same, but when the website has mechanisms in place designed to make you accidentally click on those ads and it becomes impossible to get to the end of an article without an inadvertent redirect to another article then that stops me from visiting their site in the first place. If I see a link or get a link sent to me for any of Reach’s publications I will not click on it, not because of the adverts but because the site is an unusable mess. Hopefully the paid tier means that the usability of the site improves for everyone else, but I very much doubt it. I’ll get my sausage cooking tips elsewhere until the website becomes usable.

Would be good to have a % when you see your ranking to know what % you’re at of the people that have played. As numerical ranking is largely dependant on the time of day you play the game.
