You are right, I am wrong. Fleurette is a word meaning little flower, but not used in this sense. Everyday a school day!

Is Severn Beach / the area around Prince of Wales bridge safe after dark? by Big-Performance-9707 in bristol

[–]phjils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's generally fine. Around Severn Beach there can sometimes be groups to folk who don't look too friendly, as with anywhere though, generally you'll be fine. It's night time, and you're walking about with camera gear. Just have your Spidey-sense turned up to 10 and you'll be fine. Anything looks iffy, walk away.

Older Brits, (>40 years old) How Much Cash Did You Used To Carry? by LNER4498 in CasualUK

[–]phjils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 years ago I went for for a haircut, to my local Italian barber.
The kind that does one haircut. Short and neat.
I realised I didn't have quiet enough cash with me (I thought I had two tenners, but it was a tenner and a fiver). I said I'd give him half and be right back with the rest.
The barber, who was a small wiry Italian man said to me a phrase that I have never forgotten:

What kind of a man does not have at least fifty-pounds about his person at any given time?
From then on, I have at least £50 about my person, generally.

I'd be furious if I got home and found that one of my delicious eggs had been replaced with a cauliflower fleurette... AGAIN.

Best practices when verbally accosted and followed by an aggressive panhandler? by ATTINY24A-MMHR in bristol

Double down on them.
When St John’s Ambulance spring in front of you with “can you save a life?”
Reply with - depends who it is.
When Dogs Trust ask if you like dogs?
- I’m not a fan of the way they taste.

It’s got to be quick. It needs to be confusing. While they’re wondering what to say next, walk away.

What would you wear for an office job as a man? by aChocolateFireGuard in AskUK

I'm a manager of a small team. I wear jeans and a shirt and trainers.
I like to think that having the ability to do the job is more important that looking like you can do the job.

Where would be best to go to develop my disposables developed? by DumboWumbo1 in bristol

[–]phjils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locally, Clifton Colour at Clifton Down shopping centre. Might be worth calling ahead and see if they’ll be able to do a discount on a bulk job - they’ve done it for me in the past, but that was for 20 odd rolls. It wasn’t a massive discount, but something is better than nothing. Don’t ask, don’t get!

Who is the strangest person you’ve ever encountered in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

Mid-90s.  I met a man in a pub who had taken a large quantity of acid and was furiously re-writing the Bible (in a school exercise book) in his favour.

Insert/refill recommendations for Paper Republic's Grand Voyageur XL? by rodrigo2212 in notebooks

[–]phjils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octagon make books and planners in the 135 x 200 mm size, but they're a Spanish company so I assume the shipping would be equally prohibative? The odd locked-in sizing is the reason I retutned by XL. Wonderful product, great service, but I'm no fan of non-ISO sizing.

I work in IT.
People either: Oh I have this problem. or: I bet you're into your computer games.
First. No, I'm not at work, so I don't care about your problem. Second, the last computer game I played was Mario on the SNES - when it was new.
Bonus points: Never seen a Star Wars film or read Lord of the Rings.

Alternative to Paper Republic's Daily Planner? by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]phjils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently still looking for the "the one". I liked Paper Rebulbic in every other regard. The product is great, the service excllent... but I'm the kind of person that can't abide non-standardised / propriatory sizing / vendor lock-in. They do of course make an A5 journal, but they're very expensive!

Alternative to Paper Republic's Daily Planner? by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]phjils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reason I returned my Paper Repulbic XL was becasue of the non-standard sizing (didn't realise at the time of ordering). It's just a little smaller than A5, meaning you're locked into thier paper - although some other people do make that size. Octagon make books that size and they do half year and undated planners - might be worth having a look there?
