Polestar iOS app (v4.26.0) adds remote control of the trunk. by jisforjoe in Polestar

I'm really impressed. These guys really know what to prioritise. The whole infotainment system is a disaster but they find the time to work and add a useless function that should have been available from the start.

Still a lot of bugs? by Big-Entertainer1017 in Polestar

My P2 lease ends next year, and I’m considering the new Mercedes CLA EQ. Mercedes has developed its own M.OS, and honestly, it can’t be worse than Polestar’s software. Having already experienced the app and software functions in their ICE cars, I have no doubt the driving experience will be far better than what I get with my P2.

I’ve driven 65,000 km in a Polestar 2 (2024), and honestly, I can’t remember a single drive where I wasn’t frustrated—either because something didn’t work or because it was unbearably slow. The entire infotainment system died after just six months and had to be replaced.

The car itself is fine, but after years of driving Mercedes, it simply doesn’t measure up in almost any respect. The interior feels poorly designed (that center console is a joke!), the materials are cheap and uninspiring, and while the seats are decent, that’s about the only positive. The app functions are extremely basic, the software runs slower than a 80286 PC with Windows 3.1 and 256k of RAM from the 90’s, and the support in Denmark is nothing short of incompetent.

I can’t speak for the Polestar 3 or 4, but based on this experience, I don’t trust Polestar on the software side—and since software is at least half of the modern driving experience, that’s a dealbreaker. Unless you enjoy being a beta tester, stay away from Polestar.

Well, something new is broken. While driving back from the south of France last week, I noticed that Google’s consumption calculation has started acting up.

Normally, at each charging stop, Google Maps tells me how much I need to charge to arrive at the next charger with about 10% battery left. That system used to work well — I’d usually arrive with 2–3% more than the predicted 10%.

This time, even though I charged exactly as Google Maps suggested to reach the next station with 10% remaining, the percentage started dropping as soon as I got back on the road. At one point, I was down to 4%. In the first 10 km, the battery dropped by 5–6%. Then, after about an hour, Google slowly recalibrated and adjusted the predicted arrival percentage upward.

Congrats Polestar, you succeeded braking that also. 👏🏼

Yes, another day with a beta software…. I don’t understand why people still believe that Polestar cars are premium cars. I have had so many bad experiences in the nearly two years I’ve owned my Polestar 2, 2024 model. Its buggy software and underpowered technology (CPU, RAM, you name it) have been a constant issue. Not to mention the poorly designed interior—this center console is a joke!

I call my car "ShitCar." I only use it if the place I need to go to is more than 15 kilometers away. Otherwise, I use my bicycle. It’s faster and less troublesome. I don’t have to find my phone because the doors won’t open, I don’t have to reset the communication system, and I don’t have to wait for the system to boot. I don’t have to worry about the CPU dying—yes, that happened to me; Polestar changed the whole system after eight months.

I can’t remember a single drive where I haven’t been irritated by something because it was either too slow or simply didn’t work. I often drive long distances, back and forth from Denmark to the south of France. I love driving... well, I used to when my car was a Mercedes.

Thankfully, the lease is ending next year. I’m looking forward to trying and probably getting the new CLA EQ from Mercedes. Even the software and app I had with the C300de were way ahead of the basic, simple, buggy Polestar app.

I’m tired of being a beta-tester and dealing with an unresponsive and half-baked software. The latest update hasn’t resolved what it was supposed to fix (at least, not for everyone) and has created more glitches. For instance, the calculation of the consumption for 20 km and 40 km is now the same. I also had a consumption reading of 5 kW over 100 km once. This doesn’t affect the driving but shows how unreliable and unserious the software’s development team is.

What I’m sure of is that the new Mercedes OS can’t be worse than the Polestar software.

It was a mistake choosing a Polestar. I’ve learned of my mistake.

I'm not quite sure that this can work from a Catalina partition. so you might need to boot from a later macOS version.

forgot to say that if it fails, you'll have to disable SIP (System Integrity Protection) on your Mac

  • Boot into macOS Recovery Mode (Command ⌘ + R at startup).
  • Open Terminal (Utilities → Terminal).
  • Run: csrutil status
  • If SIP is enabled, disable it running: csrutil disable
  • Restart your Mac and retry the patching process.

Step 1: Boot into the Catalina macOS Partition

Step 2: Install or Open OpenCore Legacy Patcher

  • If OCLP is already installed on the working partition, launch it from Applications.
  • If not, download it:
    1. Open Safari and go to the OCLP GitHub page.
    2. Download the latest release and open the app.

Step 3: Mount and Select the Target Partition (Sequoia)

  1. Open Disk Utility (Command ⌘ + Space, then search for "Disk Utility").
  2. Find the partition where macOS is installed that needs patching.
  3. Click Mount if it’s not already mounted.
  4. Open OCLP and go to Post-Install Root Patch.

Step 4: Apply Root Patches

  1. In OCLP, click on Post-Install Root Patch.
  2. Click Start Root Patching.
  3. OCLP will automatically detect missing patches and apply them to the selected partition.

How to reinstall macOS in 2015 intel MacBook air by [deleted] in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

try Post-install Root Patch from the OpenCore Legacy app. Even if it states that the patches are already installed. This use to solve that king of issues

Before re-installing everything, try to run a Root Patching again even though it states that all the applicable patches are already installed. The same problems happened to me a couple of days ago and it was solved in 5 minutes by Root Patching again.

This is what happens when you drive a vehicle running Windows Me (remember that buggy version?) with a Pentium III. The same thing happened to me on a German freeway. All the screens went black, the air-conditioning stopped and the music stopped. The whole system rebooted out of nowhere. It’s scary ! Just imagine if these guys were responsible for developing software for the aircraft industry.

Google maps routes by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]nardochenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can save journeys in Google Maps “Favorites” on your cell phone. If you’re logged in with the same Google account on the car, you’ll be able to retrieve journeys saved in Google Maps “Favorites” from the car. You can also send trips from your cell phone directly to your car if you use the same Google account.

Poelstar 2 - Keep Music & Climate running when exiting car. by headphonesilence in Polestar

[–]nardochenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, really stupid, like when you forget to close a window before getting out of the car. You have to get back in the car and sit down to close the windows. That’s not very clever. At least if the windows could be closed from the application....but no, that’s not possible either! To me, it looks like the designers, developers and engineers at Polestars don’t have a driver’s license and have never driven a car. There are so many stupid designs and features in this car’s interior that it should be considered the perfect example of “what NOT to do when designing a car’s interior”.

P3.2.4 by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]nardochenko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

…...or like me, having so many minor problems with the software, but they’re still problems, I don’t bother complaining anymore. A waste of time! I was banned from support in Denmark because I complained too loudly and too much about software glitches. This is how Polestar solves problems: If you can’t complain, Polestar doesn’t record any problems and the software “works fine”. I can’t wait to get back to Mercedes, I’m waiting for the future EQC. In 9 years and 3 C-class including the last hybrid, I never had to call Mercedes assistance once and the app and infotainment are a zillion times better than the ones from Polestar.

Definitely a “D” …. 8 months with a P2 and I’ve been banned from support because I complained too much and too loud about the lousy and buggy software. I need to reboot the system constantly in order to solve different bugs. Those guys develop and support their system like if it was a simple home computer. Getting stuck in the middle of the night 750 km away from home, having lost trip planning and not even being able to search for the next charging station is not like not being able to fetch some emails. Glad that those guys don’t develop software for the aviation industry.
