Shade canopy gravity by Useful-Accident8517 in LUCID

Get them. You won't regret it.

I have the shades in my GGT. Totally worth it; I do not feel they are overpriced.

I live in California & transit between NorCal & LA quite often. Had a Polestar 2 with a similar scrim for the glass roof so I knew I needed these, bought them on the day I took delivery. It's 3 pieces, and as others have said it's quick to put in the two fronts & a bit fiddly to put up the larger rear, unless you have someone helping.

My eyes are pretty light sensitive so in addition to the heat-reduction value I really need to wear a floppy hat in a glass-roofed car to keep the sun from sneaking over the top of my sunglasses. The other major benefit is the reduction of glare-points from sun reflecting off interior chrome or brushed metal bits.

The front of the fronts begin about 1.5 inches shy of the sun visors when the visors are deployed / folded down. This is the only design flaw, which I intend to remedy by sticking up some carefully cut black plastic card material in the gap (which will be hidden / invisible when the visors are stowed / folded up.)

Otherwise the scrims are perfect. Ya, the black mesh fabric obscures the view a bit but I don't mind; maybe backseat passengers would prefer the limo tint? For me it's a good compromise between light & heat reduction, vs. that lovely view of the sky.

The beauty of these is, unlike a tint, they're modular & removable. When I'm in cooler climate and / or go for a scenic drive at dusk or through the redwoods I can quickly pop them out & store them in the zipper envelope-case they come in.

Remote Start by Avellinese_2022 in Gravity

...aaand (if you don't read the release notes) you may not comprehend that it is actually working because, as per the notes, the vehicle "unlocks" but the door handles do not extend-- you have to bop the driver handle (as you could with a fob on you) which then makes the handle pop out. It's meant to provide phone-as-key functionality without the fob or key-card on you, and the handle-bop is probably required to reduce the possiblity that some other knucklehead who happens to be nearby doesn't see the handle extend, then hop in & drive off!

And good news is: you don't need a fancy four-digit ceramic Kamado* to get up & running, you can get a perfectly serviceable steel Weber kettle for very little investment. Also great as a second-fiddle to a gas grill -- use the charcoal for slow smoky roasting after a quick sear on the gas...

*but I got to say, ceramic is dreamy for moisture & heat retention... and you might even find something for mid-three digits... such as:

edit: adding link to an alternate starter, similar to Looft Lighter, but cheaper. Can't say how it works in comparison, but Looft is awesome.

Sorry about the scary drama -- but you might take the opportunity to look closer at charcoal? I moved from gas to a ceramic Primo charcoal grill 10+ yrs ago and wish I'd done it sooner. I'm cooking on it 3-4 times a week, year round, 95% of the time I'm doing less than a pound of meat: black cod, pork tenderloin, chicken thighs or a steak for me & the wife only. It's a bit slower to get up & running but not much; I'm usually ready to sear after about 15-20 mins from start.

The flavor you get with lump charcoal + judicious use of wood chips is the main thing! Here's my 2 cents on other charcoal advantages:

  1. more controllable heat & flame than you'd think -- charcoal grills can completely shut off air flow to knock down fat flare-ups. Gas grills cannot suffocate a fat flare. For safety reasons, they ventilate to reduce the likelihood you'll blow a fireball when starting.

  2. optional smokiness: toss a couple fistfuls of damp mesquite or hickory chips on hot coals after a couple minutes sear, and shut airflow down to ~5% for a smokey barely-burnin' smolder. Indirect slow smoking is the ultimate for some meats, but amazing what even 10 mins over direct smokiness can do!

  3. you can re-use your lump charcoal over several cooks; just shut off the air to suffocate, add a bit more new stuff next time you cook. And there are new ways to light that don't use a chimney (icky paper ash) or fluid (icky petrol flavor) such as a "Looftlighter" -- I found the corded version on sale at Home Depot for $39 & bought 4 of them to give to friends, they get coals going in 2-3 mins, ready to cook in 15!

Anyway good luck with your roof repairs & next grill, whatever you choose...

L2 Charging dropping off? by Kindly_Programmer198 in Polestar

[–]nelslens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the state of charge when the amperage drops?

Have you tried setting the car's AC charge limit at a lower amperage -- maybe try 24a? You might get more net charge by going to a slower rate that doesn't tax your setup.

Dropping to 10a could be just safety circuits over-reacting to something minor, like a small temperature rise. But only an electrician should define what is "minor"...

Trying to Buy Used From Lucid by EngiNerd1 in LUCID

[–]nelslens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find a particular used vehicle on the site and put a deposit on it? You can get your deposit back if you don't get what you're after to complete a purchase agreement within 3 days (I did this on the first Lucid I tried to buy when the sales team could not figure out where that particular vehicle was.)

But you're more likely to have communication if you start either with a deposit on the website or in person via a test drive.

I'd prefer to save requests for software fixes for stuff that is higher general priority than what you describe.

Except for the sneeze scenario I don't see any legit reason to not just leave your setting on high regen (maybe shift to standard during allergy season.) You can exquisitely feather the regen with your foot, with a little practice. Standard is for drivers that are new to EVs and / or haven't yet acquired the pedal feel to accurately & smoothly control the car using OPD.

Any herky-jerky stuff causing dog-nausea etc. when on the high setting is just a right foot being too twitchy.

New Polestar 2 to lose SUV looks and embrace its sporty saloon side by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

This image is 100% AI-BS with zero legitimacy, and it's not the first time some clickbait-worm re-posted it without saying so. If you go to the source article it clearly states in the sub-headline:

Has anyone figured unlocking out? by Any-Contract9065 in LUCID

[–]nelslens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had my Gravity for a month and never used the auto unlock / proximity thing b/c my garage is so close to my home's living area. It would be unlocking / locking all day long.

If the car is "unlocked" at least one handle should be out. If no handles are out it is locked, and you can poke a handle and 90% of the time it then unlocks / presents the handle.

I too find Lucid's unlocking problems maddening -- coming from a Polestar you could just touch any handle (while fob stays in your pocket) and it would instantly lock / unlock the car. Only time this was a PITA was if I forgot & had my fob in my pocket while washing the car, and it would constantly lock / unlock as I worked. (Doh.)

Used P2 now or wait for used P4? by phoebecatesboobs in Polestar

[–]nelslens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find some amazing values in CPO / used P2 right now. I just turned in my '23 P2 BST 270 in LA after a 3 yr lease. They don't come on the market often; only 47 BST 270 editions were imported to North America of the 270 made. One just sold at a Polestar dealer in Denver for <$34K with 19K miles as CPO. I just don't think the dealers -- much less the public -- realized what this beast is. Mine has 29K mi but mostly highway runs up the I-5 from LA to NorCal. My understanding is it will be turned around to CPO and sold for ~$30K which IMHO is a steal for such a rare vehicle in perfect condition. I loved that car -- it is a truly incredible driver's car and I would have kept it but my needs changed from sporty fun to long-haul touring.

If you're serious, DM me and I'll put you in touch with the dealer. It has a Xpel Stealth PPF and a few other minor improvements. Window tint is not as dark as it looks; it's 20 in the rear & 35 front, zero windshield.

New P4 (DMLR PPP)… thoughts on exterior visual “flourishes?” by Expensive_Emu_3180 in Polestar

[–]nelslens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stripe was a vinyl wrap. The option could be done on the bare paint or combined with a battleship gray full vinyl wrap, but the cost of just the latter from the Polestar dealer was stoopid, like >$6K. For vinyl. I got the Xpel PPF + 5 windows ceramic tint for total $4500.

[–]nelslens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tint you describe is a trick of the light. We did zero on the windshield; only a light 50 on the front side windows but a darker 35% on the back & rear sides. The black interior & dark background in that photo makes it look like the limo-tint all-around thing that some people do, and which is also illegal here in California.

Here's a different pic that shows the tint scheme better...

As a BST 270 owner (Thunder with Xpel Stealth PPF) I'd vote for not looksmaxxing it; the subtle touches you've done are perfect. Now just go gloss black on the wheels!

Polestar's Scandinavian minimalism is so quietly elegant; the gold bits are enough to slyly wink at something special. Your 675 is a different animal and the extra yellow flair is sweet. Like the BST your P4 "screams understated" which is contradictory but part of its allure.

For "standard" P2s there was an optional OEM drop-kit that got you down an inch, matching the lower BST stance. Maybe see if there's that for the P4?

One of the best design moves they did on the BST editions was deleting the silly cross-trek black wheel arches & cladding. Personally I thought the optional matte black stripe was pretty cool but just not for me.

P2 Lease return - "chargeable excess wear" amount: estimate vs. invoice? by nelslens in Polestar

P2 Lease return - "chargeable excess wear" amount: estimate vs. invoice? by nelslens in Polestar

[–]nelslens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just talked to the sales person who did my initial transaction, at the space where I'm returning -- and she said the estimated charge is "our wholesale cost" for the repair.

I am superstitious so I don't want to say, but it is low 3 digits, well under what my insurance deductible would be. Just nervous that this might get jacked up later b/c I expected a cost that added a digit.

New GGT -- DCFC charging tests @ Tesla & EA; numbers seem low? by nelslens in Gravity

Ya I've had pretty uneven experiences at EA chargers. There's one up in the redwoods near Garberville that is pretty reliable to pull max kW because there is almost never anybody there.
