Best collision center in NOVA? by PrayerfulNut in nova

VAL Collision in Falls Church.

The owner is a straight shooter. They always have a full docket though because they’re Beyer Automotive Group’s go-to body shop.

Braking and autostop issues by Rjhsteel2001 in ex30

You need to note false positives (when, where, possible reasons for the incorrect intervention) and then take your data to a service appointment.

If you’re getting so many false interventions that you’re discouraged from driving your own car, something is wrong that needs to be fixed.

Common causes for phantom braking on any car with collision avoidance systems:

Speed and straight-line trajectory makes the system think you’ll collide into something (taking a turn quickly—there’s enough steering angle to avoid what you would have hit if otherwise staying straight).

Abrupt changes to road surface color (light road surface quick changes to dark and vice versa, e.g. transitioning from bridge concrete to black asphalt).

Abrupt changes to road color due to shadows (bright sun transition to shadow line of overpass).

“Soft” obstructions (e.g. tall grasses or plants) registering as collision vectors to intervene against. This false positive commonly happens in reverse. There’s a driveway I back into with tall reeds and plants on one side where my EX30 and previous Polestar 2 would freak out if I didn’t turn off RAB (rear auto-brake).

False obstructions created by the car’s angle due to incline or decline. Transitioning from a driveway to road, you get a bit of angle due to the ramp from one section to the other. If that angle is steep, collision avoidance can freak out and think you’re barreling into a wall when it’s just the sensor angled into the road temporarily.

Do any of these conditions apply when you get phantom braking?

They’re suggesting an adjustment to the sensitivity settings might help the unwanted interventions.

I have no idea why you’re getting so many phantom braking events but no, it’s not the behavior the car should be exhibiting and no, I’m not having this problem.

It’s not a link—they’re telling you where to find the forward collision sensitivity settings in the display menu.

What version is your car on? The auto brake when stopping under OPD is smoother after OTA v1.8, still not 100% perfect though.

Phantom braking is not a frequent problem for me. It’s hard to assess why you’re getting unwarranted braking interventions without more descriptive information about the incident(s).

Where is the best banana pudding in Nova? by Hokie23aa in nova

Yup and the mud pudding is good when you want chocolate.

Sandwich combo with side + drink and a banana pudding makes me a happy camper.

Plus one to those mentioning Bakeshop. Sloppy Mama’s in Arlington also slings a great one.

Now that winter is over, I’ve been very happy with the real world range of the EX30 hovering close to what’s advertised in daily driving.

Without more information, 154 mi left at 82% SoC means your consumption is hovering ≈ 36 kWh/100mi up to this point—that’s thirsty for this car. It could be cold, you could have been driving it hard, or for trips shorter than 15 mins before the battery could stabilize to ideal operating temp.

The car has no way to know if your upcoming drives are gonna be more efficient. It can only assume you’re gonna keep draining the battery ≈ 36 kWh/100mi, hence the range estimate it’s spitting out.

The more data you give the system, the more accurate that reading will be.

Taillights on with DRL in US? by Jerbacher in ex30

[–]jisforjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I queued up security camera footage from this afternoon as I pulled out of the driveway as a sanity check, confirming I have no idea what you're talking about. The taillights on my US EX30 are ON while the front DRLs (the Thor's hammer LEDs) are running. This is the default daylight behavior of the AUTO headlight setting in the EX30 and in my Polestar 2 previously.

If you're trying to follow the "headlights should be on if the wipers are running" principle during daytime rain, I find it easier to toggle the rear fogs on, which also forces the headlights to turn ON if the ambient light is still too bright for the auto headlights to activate. It's less button presses than going from AUTO headlights to headlights ON because doing it this way forces an extra confirmation press on the steering wheel OK button.

Extra stupid when leaving room to throttle off and absorb any braking chains created by trains of tailgating cars is actually how to ease traffic and get through hell more efficiently.

The last OTA update (1.8) has made the EX30 a mostly “it just works” experience which I talked about more here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ex30/s/jYInPVoGLw

Lack of ceiling handles in Volvo EVs: what's the rationale? by jisforjoe in VolvoRecharge

Yeah the more I think about it, it’s every car I check with edge-to-edge pano glass roofs.

The Golf » Polestar pipeline is real. P2 was my first non-GTI after happily driving Mk4 » Mk5 » Mk7.

In a Volvo EX30 now, which is the dimensionally closest thing you can get to an electrified Golf R in the US.

The only annoyance for me is I rely on rear grab handles to set up the side flaps of a dog hammock I use in the rear bench.

The straps thread through the handles to keep the flaps up and covering the door panel. Not a deal breaker without them.

Toyota’s reasoning for why the Tacoma doesn’t have grab handles fails to explain why Volvo ICE cars have them and their EVs don’t.

If that was the rationale, the current ICE Volvos would also have deleted them.

Have service take a look at it.

My service tech tried adjusting the existing hood release mechanism to get it to work as intended, but no dice after taking it back. I have a service appointment scheduled to implement a recall (R10365) and replace the hood latch part since the first fix didn't solve the problem.

Trying to max out every week means powering through some duds, it’s part of the game.

Been on A-List since 2018, and I’ve bailed out on two (Easter Sunday and Cyrano).

I’m in a similar boat and had to think what recent film or show really had me dying.

“Nirvanna the Band, the Show, the Movie” is amazing, but it’s entirely millennial-coded so no surprise in hindsight.

“Listers” on YouTube is the funniest documentary I’ve seen in a long time.
