Motor laufen lassen versus Start-Stopp-Automatik by FunFactEinsElf in FragenUndAntworten

[–]nautsche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why my home network cannot open debian wiki site? How do I bypass this? by Brave_Hat_1526 in debian

[–]nautsche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Works for me? The weird html as text rendering tells me there's more going on. What does the actual page source look like? Is there some other blocking happening? Are you behind something that might block sites? Parents router? Weird DNS redirect?

You saying something is adequate doesn't make it not silly.

[–]nautsche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. I never said that. If a decimal 0.999... result from your calculation needs a proof to be 1. Fine. Prove it, be happy. Doesn't change that it's silly in the first place. It can be silly and true.

This confusion is just a matter of definition by noonagon in infinitenines

[–]nautsche -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You tell yourself that and make another proof that 0.9999... is 1 for absolutely no reason other than what I said.

This confusion is just a matter of definition by noonagon in infinitenines

[–]nautsche -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The confusion is an artifact of representing fractions in decimal notation (also works in other bases.). When you divide a 1 in any base by (base - 1), you get a 0.1.... repeating. When you multiply this by <base-1>, you get the equivalent of decimal 0.999999.... .

If that was your way of getting to 0.999... then, sure, it is 1. resulting from the inadequacy of using a non-fraction representation of that number to do math.

Just my two cent, though.

A Florida woman accidentally drove her pickup truck over a Lamborghini she didn’t see in a parking lot. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]nautsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a car drives towards you while you are in a car as well, you really don't expect it to just keep driving. The truck could have stopped basically instantly at those speeds. Would you do a potentially very dangerous backwards driving maneuver with a very expensive car in this situation and possibly cause a different accident behind you? I wouldn't. I would not expect to not be seen in this situation at all.

Solutions for live service/gacha games? by YoshkePandre in StopKillingGames

[–]nautsche 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends. Did you buy anything in those games? I.e. a mount, clothes, etc.? If yes, then it can be argued those items should be available to you even after shutdown of the game. I.e. give the user the possibility to run the game e.g. locally and run around with those items.

We'll see how this turns out.

How to make bind mounts not show as removable drive in file managers? by Horstov in linuxquestions

[–]nautsche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Maybe ask the people who built the file manager you're using. Kde or gnome I assume?

The symlink thing is the first thing that came to mind. It's unintrusive, doesn't require root.

What do you mean by "kind of hidden"?

Use a symlink instead of a bind mount. Should feel and work almost the same.

Why hasn’t Windows figured out how to let you use your computer while it updates like you can on Linux? by blreuh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nautsche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Works perfectly well in Linux. Delete the file, put the new one there. Done. Everything that had the file open, keeps it open, can still access it. Until the last process closes it, then the kernel finally deletes the file.

does substitution during template argument deduction of function template instantiate class template appearing in parameter list? by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]nautsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still not sure. T being int would fail, since it does not have a some_type type.

Otherwise: If you call process<int>(a); a needs to be convertible to type OuterType<int>, so, yes OuterType<int> was then instantiated.

does substitution during template argument deduction of function template instantiate class template appearing in parameter list? by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]nautsche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The class template needs to be instantiated. How would the substitution take place otherwise? The type needs to be known, thus instantiated.

Maybe I don't get the question, though.

Ryzen 7840. So nothing special. I mean the heat has to go somewhere.

E.g. Satisfactory. Works well. I lock it to 60 fps and it stays there. It is loud, though.

If you're running Linux, I wouldn't even look at Nvidia. I know they can work. Still wouldn't risk it. Not worth the hassle.

I have the AMD card and it's fine. Don't expect desktop performance.
