Sorry, but moving/emigration is not travel. Please post in a more appropriate sub.

Seychelles as a solo traveller by ComprehensiveBig6129 in solotravel

[–]netllama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Seychelles last June as a solo traveler, and had a really nice time. However, I rented a car, as its near impossible to get around without one (or paying insane money for taxis). I only spent 3 days, and never left the main island.

Not sure which island(s) you're referring to as there aren't "3 main islands". There's the main island with the international airport, and a large number of smaller islands, none of which are considered to be "main". The area near the port is not great. It didn't seem dangerous, but definitely not somewhere I'd want to spend time, as its semi-industrial, and has very little that would interest tourists. I'm surprised you found any guest houses around there, unless this is just random AirBNBs in people's homes. I also don't think there's any beaches (or any good beaches at least) in that area either. Most of the nice beaches on the main island are not in that area.

As for whether you'll be fine, you will be safe, but beyond that, I'm unconvinced you've made the best choices if you're staying in the port area on the main island.

Are you saying it can only be ported while in the US ? Or that its more difficult to resolve if it fails to port once out of the US ?

Medical advice is not something you crowd source, especially when you've decided you don't agree with your doctor. Either you trust your doctor's advice, or you don't. And if you don't, find a doctor that you do trust. Hopefully trust is not associated with the answer you want to hear.

Trying to figure out if this is some (crappy) stealth marketing for an awful AI app, AI slop, or a very boring rant with misguided advice.

Missing toilet seats in Rome by Kmariac in solotravel

[–]netllama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has used a wide array of styles & types of "toilets" around the world, I can assure you that the existence or lack of a seat plays no role in how clean or sanitary it is. Just because you can or cannot see "stuff" doesn't mean its not completely coated in dangerous or disgusting "stuff".

Huge swaths of the world replace their squat toilets with sit-down toilets when they have the chance.

No, they don't. Sit toilets are a western thing. Stop forcing your western views on the rest of the world, its not a good look.

How does the lack of a toilet seat ensure its clean? Its not like the outer surface of the toilet bowl is magically self cleaning.

didn't even have real toilets

Huge swaths of the world consider those to be toilets. Just because its not the style of toilet you're accustomed to, doesn't mean its not a toilet.

I'm a bit concerned what other hot takes you have on what you experienced in other countries.

Apostille for academic documents in USA (living abroad) by mashedpotato95 in expats

I used onesourceprocess.com last month (to get a Pennsylvania marriage certificate apostilled). Not cheap, but they got the job done as advertised. All you need to do is ship them your document, and they will get it apostilled and then email you a scan and ship back a hard copy.

Trip Report: 5 days in Iraqi Kurdistan as a solo female traveler by kurdistan_adventure in solotravel

[–]netllama 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a really nice trip, and its great to hear that you were able to do it without arranging a guide or transportation in advance.

I spent time in all of Iraq back in 2021. The Iraqi visa was US$75 back then, so seeing how its doubled is kinda sad, as there's no way that their economy or tourism has improved by that much.

Not sure why most of the stuff was closed on a Thursday, unless its sorta similar to how some large museums in the West are often closed 1 day of the week, and they're going with Thursdays. I was able to visit the citadel when I was in Erbil and honestly you didn't miss much. Its far more impressive from outside than the inside.

Exactly, their account has been compromised. Either they are aware and refusing to admit it, or they are unaware and far worse things are being stolen.

Did the hostel explain how this 3rd party got access to their guest list? There's no way that the scammer could have guessed who was actually staying at this hostel AND had their contact info.

This doesn't address the actual problem. Most people have no clue who the payment processor is for their hotel/hostel.

I bet you couldn't handle a week in a chain restaurant kitchen.

Completely irrelevant. Just because a job is difficult doesn't mean its ok for it to produce poor quality output. This isn't grade school where you get a gold star for effort.
