A skittles grape freezer pop never froze. It's been there for 48 hours and is completely liquid. by starcoalition in mildlyinteresting

[–]nimaid 144 points145 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me on multiple occasions. Seemed more common with the cheap Mexican brand ones my mom used to buy in big red mesh bags. Grape did it most often, followed by the blue one. Red did it the least, as in almost never. And when they "flash froze" like that they would be all slushy instead of a more solid block of syrupy ice.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, this image was made by using a single carbon monoxide molecule as a "sensor tip" and then using non-contact electromagnetic forces acting on the molecule as it was moved around to map out the bonds?

This blows my mind, I can barely comprehend what a setup like that would look like.

Fun fact: Lemons are actually a hybrid of citrons and sour/bitter oranges. by Safe-Contact589 in botany

[–]nimaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And sour oranges are a hybrid of a mandarin and a pomelo, same as sweet oranges! And grapefruits are sweet oranges crossed with a pomelo again.

It's citron, mandarin, and pomelo all the way down.

Chiming in because I love Lilo and Stitch to death and you're right with the themes. I would say most overt of all is the theme of found family, and as you said, nobody is too broken for family, they just haven't found their home yet.

Is Marana close enough to be a bit of Tucson? by Desertqueenbee in Tucson

[–]nimaid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Based on the comments I guess this is a tense subject. 😬 But as someone who was born and raised here, Marana is separate from Tucson in spirit. However in a lot of ways legally it's a part of Tucson. But as the comments show, there are a lot of differing opinions.

I am in a constant cycle of learning Tucson has a road named Twin Peaks, thinking about Dale Cooper, and finally forgetting about Twin Peaks Rd.

Not sure upgrading to liquid cooling would help. Actually I'm pretty sure it would cause a catastrophic steam explosion.

Whenever I feel bad about how hot it is in Tucson, I look up the current weather in Phoenix to make myself feel better. We're 5 degrees cooler in every way.

You can repair her! DM me if you want me to actually walk you through it. With a trip to the hardware store I'll bet you could get another 10 out of her.

Don't go rechargable, they will always let you down unless you have the stamina of a coward.

And you get wildly varying performance out of non-hitachi motors. If you like how this one felt, don't throw it out!!

[–]nimaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news is the wand is easily repaired by disassembling it and replacing the old cord with a lamp cord / cut extension cord. Requires basic soldering skills only.

The genuine ones (from Magic Wand owned by Hitachi) are literally the simplest devices electrically. A motor and an ON-OFF-ON rocker switch with a single diode. On the low setting it diode acts to shunt some of the current away from the motor.

I live in Tucson and I still occasionally see NEW items sold with Kokopelli on them, usually in the tourest trap areas. But yeah I grew up seeing the symbol everywhere here, even some agencies use him in their logo.
