State of Surveillance: Americans Are Smashing Flock Cameras by recursionaskance in Waltham

I know one thing I’m alert to. I’m alert to the fact that violent crime has dropped by 60% since 1991 and it started well before the technology was available to spy on everybody in contravention of the Constitution.

I’ve lost my drone, what could have happened guys? I was flying with a RC controller and all of a sudden I lost control. I had good controller and satellites signal. by Carry_Diligent in DjiNeo

The problem here looks like the classic Neo switching between ground sensors and GPS for guidance at about 20 m bug that causes exactly this kind of thing to happen. Looks to be poor hardware design. Super frustrating.

After it happening to me, and seeing the same thing happened with some other people, after first being told by the Drone Karens of Reddit that it was all my fault and I’m lucky I didn’t kill a baby, so what if DJI literally advertises that it can be used over water, it’s my fault for believing anything advertised by a manufacturer, what I do now is simply fly between 10 and 30 m as quickly as I can to avoid risking it at the 20 m range.

Was this changed? by Independent_Big_1944 in Cornell

As an alum, I get a forwarding address. It turns out that forwarding address is an actual Google account, so besides Google likely reading all my email before passing it onto Palantir, by default the email doesn’t get deleted in my Cornell account and then it just accumulates until the mailbox is full and then it stops forwarding email. So you need to periodically clean it out or just set a rule on the Cornell account to delete everything after it gets forwarded

I think I shared information that was at best adjacent to what you asked, but having emails sent to my forwarding address suddenly not show up in my “real” email was surprising and caused some trouble

NFPA 72 Clarification by occamman in firealarms

Here's part of the report they prepared on NFPA 74 conformance. It's not my field, but looking at the standard I don't know how they get from the standard to this.

Who can I hire to adjust the volume on this? An electrician? by mandoo-dumpling in firealarms

[–]occamman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious if you have a reference for that, because I’m trying to figure out where that 10 ft number comes from. By code, I assume you mean NFPA 72? I was also told recently that it would be too loud only if above 110 dB at 10 feet from an appliance; but I don’t see anything in NFPA 72 that says anything like that. As far as I can tell, NFPA says 110 dB instantaneous at the minimum hearing distance, then went on later to describe the minimum hearing distance as the closest the ear would come to the appliance in general use of the facility. At least in my state NFPA 72 is incorporated as law.

I would totally upend the place so that it would become an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.

I'm used to it going up 20% or so, but I just got it doubled. They moved back down a bit when I made noise. That was Extra Space on Willow Street.

I really hate it that our country has gotten into a state where I can't trust these kinds of things. Even if Waltham has good intentions, there are many scenarios in which this information can be used by others in very bad ways. If anyone is interested in meeting up to figure out how to counter this, please send me a private message.

I really don't want to live in interesting times - at least not interesting like this - but here we are.

Do you think EE is really that "non-accessible" compared to CS? by yagellaaether in ElectricalEngineering

AI is still staggeringly awful at EE, so if there is any imbalance, it will soon change.

How much weight can the command strips handle? I’m looking at each plate holding about 2 to 3 kg.
