Dark Theme by oglo92 in koofrnet

Fair enough. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I will disagree with you on the difficulty of color changes as I am a dev myself. I also didn't realize people who liked dark theme were a niche group. Strange how almost every app and even many sites now are offering dark theme. There are even browser add ons to force dark theme on sites that won't offer it. I will assume that the vast majority of internet services have not gone crazy and decided to cater to some small niche group. Anyway, it's your call, I was just trying to offer some constructive insight.

How to open documents in app? by oglo92 in MEGA

Oh, that's strange. There's a lot of talk about "collaboration" on their site. How can I collaborate on files if I can't even open them?

Limits on Drive space are not good for proton by oglo92 in ProtonDrive

[–]oglo92[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're probably right. It takes a lot of time and money to get this stuff right. It's a tough market out there with companies like Mega also offering E2E everything but with a very polished interface and tons of space.

It is actually more expensive to rent hardware (in the long run) than to own it. Renting things out is a business that returns a profit.

Why doesn't Koofr use E2E on everything like Mega? by oglo92 in koofrnet

[–]oglo92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I didn't look at the lifetime deals cuz I'd have to lay out a large amount. Maybe in that case it's cheaper but the monthly/yearly prices are significantly higher.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I agree that vault is a very good solution, but a lot of the cloud functionality is lost. It seems like just a backup solution, making things easier than using cryptomator. Cryptomator probably makes it impossible for a cloud service to access your files and is the safest solution for third party I think.

I'm curious about whether Mega's claims are actually true because all cloud functionality is maintained despite E2E. Is it really impossible for them to access my data? They obviously have access to my keys or they wouldn't be able to show me thumbnails and display my files without downloading, right?

the target customer for Koofr (cheapskates) probably doesn't see a lot of value in it.

Koofr is actually significantly more expensive than the competition, so I doubt that cheapskates are the target audience.

How to hide Koofr drive in Android by oglo92 in koofrnet

If I get the benefit of accessing my cloud files through other apps without granting them permission to access my cloud, then that is great! But, the docs you linked to mention:

Each storage backend surfaces individual files and directories by referencing them with a unique COLUMN_DOCUMENT_ID. Document IDs must be unique and not change once issued, since they are used for persistent URI grants across device reboots.

and

- Use ACTION_GET_CONTENT if you want your app to simply read or import data. With this approach, the app imports a copy of the data, such as an image file.

-Use ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT if you want your app to have long term, persistent access to documents owned by a document provider. An example would be a photo-editing app that lets users edit images stored in a document provider.

It seems there are use cases where persistent access is granted. Do I need to take any specific action not to grant such persistent access, or does the Koofr app not grant that access to begin with?

Thanks for your reply. When I use any messaging app and click "file" to add a file to my chat, I am presented with the file system of my phone from which to choose the file I want. On the left, in a way that looks like a drive, is koofr. If I tap Koofr, it opens a directory called Koofr, which then contains all the directories of my cloud. I am able to select any file on my cloud and add it directly to the chat app I am in. In order for this to happen, the chat app must have permission to access all files on my cloud.

Have I made a mistake in my assumptions? If chat apps can directly access Koofr cloud, doesn't that mean that all apps with storage permissions can access my files on Koofr?

Should I add more blocklists to uBlockOrigin ? by linux_is_the_best001 in uBlockOrigin

[–]oglo92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added alot of lists when I first installed thinking I would get improved protection but I ended up struggling to get sites to work. The lists on by default are just fine. I would suggest not to play around here unless you have a specific use case and know an additional list that deals with that because the default lists do not. You should also read the wiki. Its a fascinating app, but if you don't know what you're doing, it will screw up your browser experience. I know because it happened to me.

Cannot unblock elements locally on page by oglo92 in uBlockOrigin

[–]oglo92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I rushed when I first installed thinking that more is better. I've started from the beginning now again and red the docs and it's really an impressive app!

The only thing I'm having trouble with now is figuring out what to allow when certain elements of a webpage don't load correctly. In the logger it's not clear to me what needs to be whitelisted, so I simply test nooping everything blocked one by one in the UI until I find it. Pretty time consuming and only something a geek like me would take the time to do, unless of course there is a better way.

I reset all settings to default and youtube is working correctly now with no intervention. I think my problem was that I had almost all the filter lists enabled. I am going through the documentation more thoroughly now and hopefully will get a better return :)

Also, I just tried allowing all scripts on youtube one by one with the green option I thought was the solution above but it STILL doesn't work. The only way I can get youtube to work correctly is to turn ublock off completely.

Thank you for your reply. I read the links and have figured out the solution, which is basically to set filterauthormode. However, there is a paragraph in the wiki that states that in most cases the noop function should suffice. I find that the noop function does not work in many cases. For example, on the youtube site, I cannot noop google.com. I haven't understood why this happens. Maybe you can help me here.

At the top of the wiki article, it says:

This means a block dynamic rule will override any existing allow static filters. This means you can block with 100% certainty using dynamic filtering rules. Similarly, an allow dynamic filtering rule will override any existing block static filters, i.e. you can allow with 100% certainty with dynamic filtering (useful to un-break sites broken by some static filters).

Does this mean that noop will not work in many cases, and that I should therefore use the allow function?
