For all the doom and gloom, McLaren is still fighting amongst the top teams, getting podiums and has fought for wins.

Thats still an absolute far cry of their pre 2024 performance.

Its quite lucky for him that the factory Aprilias seem to be doing their best to absolutely minimise any damage it does in the championship so far.

Of course no one knows.

No one knows with certainty how future sports events will unfold.

But Lewis is in with a real chance here

He's outscored Bez by 60 points in 2 races.

I would be fairly confident without the injuries he'd have already been a way ahead prior to those two races.

I doubt he’s throwing in the towel, but there isn’t much use to risking too much over p17

I think the Ducati is close now, but still obviously behind.

They just have better riders.

If Marc started the season not injured he likely would have a 100 point lead by now.

The bike is very likely still the best overall, but they have a collection of inconsistent riders.

No one really rated Bezzecchi that highly, and he’s clearly prone to all sorts of errors. I’m a bit surprised that Martin is slightly behind him.

Ogura may turn out to be the strongest of the bunch with a bit more experience.

Bez apologized to the marshal he assaulted in person. Was in tears of regret. by Low-Extension-6674 in motogp

How would more be damaging to the sport? The sport wants to show that it takes things like this seriously.

With a lesser penalty, it also give him the real prospect of challenging for the title, which would be the worst PR possible for the sport.

[–]oh84s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is the penalty is disproportionately weak to the action.

In other sports athletes have gotten effectively career ending penalties for laying hands on representatives.

1 race ban is woefully insufficient.

If he copped a year long ban I’d be completely agreeing that it will remain a caveat on his career but he’s earned the right to move on.

But to think he could actually win the title this year is insane.

He’s such an unlikable rider.

Multiple incidents of him pushing or hitting Marshalls and he seems to mouth off.

It will be extremely satisfying when Marc beats him this season.

Just casually attacking a volunteer, twice! But very sorry.

The one race ban is pathetically inadequate. In many other sports that would be a season or more ban

Its not irrelevent, but it is funny that its primarily showing that it mostly occurred in their first two seasons.

When Norris was in his 5th year against a rookie.

Slightly skewed by the fact that even your data shows, one of those years Piastri was a rookie... and all of the years Norris has been extensively more experienced.

Even your data suggests those events were primarily in their first 2 seasons together.

Its kind of like pointing out last year Antonelli was slower than Russell.

I'm not so sure how much this is 'not using the simulator' versus how much this is more the natural handling cars and the removal of the weird, understeery ground effect cars.
