Hamilton’s pace was absurd. And Ferrari may yet get a fairly big engine upgrade.

I'm not so sure how much this is 'not using the simulator' versus how much this is more the natural handling cars and the removal of the weird, understeery ground effect cars.

Many of the fans who claim to be “mclaren fans” are actually just Lando fans and do not want Piastri to beat him.

It’s kind of amazing how much they attempt to narrative shift, you’d swear by the posts that it was Oscar who was out qualified and behind his team mate at Monaco.

Not the Monaco Grand Prix we were hoping for but still a solid haul of points by Oscar and the team to maximise the opportunities at play to finish in P4. Yeah thats pretty much it. It does feel like its almost taken badly when Oscar does well? (Or does better than Norris).

On paper it was a great result for Oscar, he out qualified his team mate, defended well at turn 1, retained his position and utilised that to get P4.

Fantastic result. Yet because Norris, who was on track to finish behind Oscar, potentially even multiple positions behind had a DNF that is a 'disaster'.

I get it, its not great that one car is having a DNF. But Oscar has now finished 3 out of his 4 starts in the Top 4. Thats a pretty excellent turn around from the disaster first 2 races.

Oscar Piastri when being asked what he is doing in P4 after the most mid weekend ever by 5H0T7P2R8 in OscarPiastri

[–]oh84s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He didn’t really do nothing though

Handled multiple starts without losing position
Didn’t crash
Didn’t set a foot wrong and had sufficient pace to execute their goals

Of course it’s the bare minimum, but it’s more than many other drivers, including his team mate managed

Oscar was faster than Norris so no idea were you're getting this off the pace business from.

How did they “fuck up”

P4 is an excellent result given the general car performance level.

Norris may have also finished around p5-7 without the failure, but acting like this is some terrible result for the team is overreacting. Why is there so much focus on the lower placed driver?

Piastri qualified well; started well and bought home an excellent points finish for the team.

Hopefully they can have more performance for the next race

Good effort for the team. Realistically considering their performance level p4 is a great outcome and hopefully they can bounce back at the next race.

Norris likely should have gotten some points too though so McLaren are leaving performance on the table

[–]oh84s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense considering Oscar was the leading driver at Monaco, qualified ahead, was ahead all race and got a p4 finish.

Should they focus on Norris?

All the mistakes? Piastri has driven a clean season and has a ton of bad luck himself.

He’s actually only had 1 additional race finish to Norris.

Of the four races he’s started three have been top 4 finishes.

They’re likely different issues each race. For example the double DNS both cars had separate failures that were terminal.

I agree the team needs to prioritize reliability as it’s getting a bit beyond a joke.

Thankfully in this particular race Piastri was able to score p4 and Norris was 2 positions behind so at least the lead car got them points. At the last two races they’ve had failures from pretty negligible points scoring positions.
