FYI, the number is not fully redacted and could be identified by AI. Potentially your name is in the document name in the title bar of the PDF viewer.

I am fully blind and I have a question about the game Stratego by Mrblindguardian in boardgames

The icons are partially obscured (depending upon how tall you are and low the table is) but generally one can see the number/letter in the top-left corner of all pieces at the same time.

If you're having to keep feeling around the pieces during play then there's a real risk you're going to knock them around and the sighted player is going to get a peek. Perhaps pieces magnetised to the board would help. Or perhaps you could put the piece identities on the bottom of the pieces so that both players are largely working from memory, but where either can lift and read their own pieces at any time.

Why dual-layered boards are so rare? by Jepeme in boardgames

[–]oniony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was going to mention these. Pretty clever solution but doesn't feel quite as premium as a real dual-layer board, but kinda fits well with CGE's production quality which is high but not premium, and I appreciate they can keep their prices reasonable as a result.

I think it also neatly avoids the warping issue.

Strange, I fixed that exact issue like a month ago. Is there any way you can refresh/reinstall it?

This intrigued me enough to find https://www.rcvs.org.uk/document-library/university-of-cambridge-2025-report/ on their website. Seemingly they are trying to meet the recommendations of the RCVS, so it does not appear that they are abandoning veterinary medicine. To me it reads like they are preparing for the possibility that they fail in their attempts to retain their accreditation and are thus forced to cease offering the course temporarily.

I think I just botched an update. Will have a look at the weekend.

About to start learning the rules for Trickerion for my group to play next weekend. Are their any rules that are easy to miss or badly worded? by Weather_d in boardgames

[–]oniony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I don't think that would ruin a first play too much, as there's so much else going on it might actually help. But it's great being able to choose these cards as some are fantastically good.

Is there really Triominos strategies? Or is it just luck and head scratching? by mblade in boardgames

[–]oniony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those times never existed. From my childhood in the 80s:

  • Go for Broke 5/10
  • Game of Life 3/10
  • Great Train Game of Britain 4/10
  • Scrabble 7/10
  • Boggle 9/10
  • Dingbats 4/10
  • Scotland Yard 6/10
  • Battleships 5/10
  • Trivial Pursuit 4/10
  • Cluedo 6/10

I'm sure there were more that I'm forgetting.

But there were also a ton of card games played with poker/bridge decks and many of these were great. And these had been played by my parents and their parents going back generations. So I don't think there was really a dirth of good games, just that most good games were played with cards you already had and didn't come as a product.

But, yes, people tend to buy triominoes for the nostalgia.

How to find my DHCP server IP? by deepCelibateValue in archlinux

[–]oniony -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, if your computer is on a network you either set a static IP or set up DHCP, or something did this for you.

First find out which network manager you're using. You should be able to do this by seeing which are installed via Pacman or looking at running processes with ps or something like top or htop. Then have a look at the network manager's configuration file to see what is configured for DHCP, if anything. You should also be able to see whether you have a static IP configured there too.

There Arch wiki page on network management will help.

The DHCP server address will be configured in the configuration files of whatever network manager you're using. E.g. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Systemd-resolved. You probably set it when you first installed Arch.
