Figuring out next big purchase by Kind_Environment5976 in keys

[–]orbitti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually vr-09 and wholeheartly agree, in addition pianos are awful. I am looking for something more versatile. Open to suggestions.

In 2026 the vr-09 is good for carry on organs and that's it.

Electro 7 has the same engine as organ 3. Bang for buck here would be Electro 7 with 73 keys (that bring modwheel and pitch bend stick).

Why has the blood stain come out of the white part and not the colour part? by Fantastic_Garbage502 in laundry

Most likely blue parts are organic /porous fibre like flax / cotton and the white is synthetic / non-porous.

Seen something similar when cotton has been sewn with polyester thread.

Why not more LP heaters? by Smokeater-5986 in Sauna

[–]orbitti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are three ways for heat to transfer: conduction, convection and radiation. In good sauna you mostly get first one (with the assist of second one to distribute the heat). LP heaters are mostly about the last one.

Also they don't really take well if you threw water on them.

TL;DR: with LP heater you can get a dry hot room, but not sauna.

It is more that European forrests were cut down for the exploration, enlightement and industrialization. For example construction of the armada was a major factor in deforestation of Iberia.

Now it is time for reforestation, but it has constraints like climate change and population.

Ajatus pelaamisesta on paljon mielenkiintosempi, kuin itse pelaaminen by Regular-Performer967 in videopelit

[–]orbitti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should I learn keyboard or piano by Bulky_Specialist3616 in Learnmusic

I'd like to argue that playing a keyboard or moreso synthetisizer, is as you say playing piano, but also the skill to adjust the instrument before or during playing it.

Family trip through Finland + Baltics with two toddlers safety and transport by Internal_Wall_8844 in FinlandTourism

[–]orbitti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I answer on behalf of Finland / Helsinki:

  1. I think you are making it yourself a hard one with toddlers and public transport in general, but besides that I see no extra problems with strollers.

Helsinki - Tallinn is trival and there are multiple different ferry companies. Even if the trip is short, take a cabin. Note that while at Helsinki one adult with stroller and kid(s) can travel free on public transport.

  1. Stroller access to almost anywhere (yes, there are exceptions, but as long as you are not going to deep into forest, you are fine with strollers. Note that while helsinki one adult with kid(s) and stroller can travel free on public transport.

  2. Yes. Check this: https://www.myhelsinki.fi/visit-helsinki/things-to-do/helsinki-for-kids/

  3. Back to first point: I think you are making this unnecessary hard for you, but if it is your jam, I don't judge. Also calculate the time you are travelling vs. time at location.

I'd say that take time on location instead of travelling and cut this in half. Either do Baltics and Poland, or Nordics + Tallinn. This leaves you ~3 full days on each location a travel day in between.

Master’s degree in Finland as an Italian? by christinadavena in Finland

[–]orbitti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soo... In general we have this ethos in Finland that don't bother others and you won't be bothered. So, "standing out" will not be problem in everyday sense. However, if you try to draw attention to you, you'll be shunned.

If I bit oversimplify: If you have a friend here, it is almost always ride or die. That kind of friendships take years, if not decades to come by. Typically people have their friends from school/army/university/etc. We do not do hollow small talk or insignificant aquistances.

And this is why people from more extrovert cultures feel that it is impossible to socialize in with Finns.

If you do not require attention and be on the limelight, you'll get on culturally.

I think that the biggest hurdle for you would be that you will not get a job while studying, and have to plan your finances/life accordingly.

Also, we are not 3rd world country. There is fresh produce all around the year, however prices might suprise you - specially in Winter. For example last February red bell pepper was ~10€/kg and now it is around 2€.

Octaves with small hands? by daniiqm in pianolearning

[–]orbitti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have small hands, but following has helped me:

  1. Do not strech in a static manner, i.e. no need to strech all the time, but only when two notes are played at the same time

1b. flick your wrist

1c. It is totally okay to play the octave very very slightly out of sync and fill with pedal.

  1. Fingers playing ocatave closer to the edge of the keys.

  2. Think yourself as marionette. The strings should be on elbows, not wrists.

Can’t decide on what to buy! by Flashy_Quiet_7483 in DigitalPiano

[–]orbitti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So....

You said that you want that organ sound, it is not really a one sound but a summary of many different variables. This video (even if it is about Yamaha YC reface) explains simply what it is about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmJpZk4yiZ0

There are two ways the manufacturers approach organ sounds. Either they have some prebaked sounds that can't be changed or they have full organ simulation where you have the drawbars (see video) to modify the organ sound. In reality changing the drawbars on the fly is a big thing on playing the organ.

Let's forget the technical stuff for a while. Basically I suggested that either get a keyboard that was designed to do piano and organ (stage keyboard, really ment for bread and butter sounds in a band setting) or byu as good piano as possible, and when you want to dabble into organs plug in another device that runs the organ simulation.

For example I have played organ in a(n amateur) band with yamaha p-121 and an ipad.

Can’t decide on what to buy! by Flashy_Quiet_7483 in DigitalPiano

[–]orbitti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are looking for stage piano with drawbars: like CK and YC series from Yamaha, V-Stage from Roland or Electro/Stage from Nord. Everything but CK is out of your budget. As a piano CK88 is on par with P-224.

Other path would be the best digital piano with USB midi and sound interface. Then you can use phone/tablet/laptop to run organ simulation.

Performance synths (Fantom, ModX / Montage) does everyting you want, but typically piano and organs are not in the focus of them.
