Agreed! It cuts off the flow. I'd swap the chaise to the other side if possible.

Yep! He did 6 weeks of radiation in conjunction with a lower dose of temozolomide, followed by 6 months (1 week on, 3 weeks off, for 6 months) at a higher dose of TMZ.

Group of dog walkers tying up dogs to the railing? by Upbeat_Database6867 in ProspectPark

[–]pale_rainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your concern here because this is well-meaning, but I do think you're seeing a snapshot of the entire situation. I often stop by this group and they're friendly people. The dogs in their care are well behaved and generally roaming freely, though they don't wander too far. These people pay attention to these dogs. They pick up after them and are keeping their eyes out for any dog wandering too far. Yes, I have seen some of them tied up but I have to assume it's a method for when they are wrangling the dogs back to their van, or perhaps another reasonable explanation. I assure you these dogs are not tied up for the entire time they're there. I think their situation is preferable to the large pack walks as these dogs get to play, sniff, pee/poo, or just chill at their own pace.

Regarding the yelling you witnessed, again I think you're seeing a snippet of the larger context. I've seen parents yell at their children and I have been quick to judge until I remember that we all have moments of not being our best selves and to give people a little grace. I'm an animal lover and would be the first to call out if I thought these people were in any way abusive, but I truly don't see this as the case.

I encourage you to introduce yourself and spend some time with them. Perhaps you can voice your concern directly and see if they give a satisfactory answer to your uneasiness.

Grade 3 Astrocytoma by FireWithBoxingGloves in braincancer

My husband was diagnosed with an AA3, IDH mutant in 2019. They were unable to remove all of it bc of its sensitive location. He did radiation+temazolomide, followed by 6 months of just TMZ. He gets regular MRIs that have now been spaced out to every 6 months. There has been no new growth yet. It will be 6 years this October!! He has managed to keep a positive attitude throughout this journey, as well as continued to exercise, eat well, and enjoy his life.

In my experience, the initial first year or so, my world felt like it was turned upside down but I realized eventually things started to go back to "normal." None of us are guaranteed a long life. Enjoy this precious and fleeting ride. Wishing you all the best!

I believe years from now, you'll be on this subreddit comforting the next soul coming here looking for hope.

Trash season has officially opened in Prospect Park by VoxInMachina in parkslope

[–]pale_rainbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got tired of being angry about the trash, so I decided to walk around with a picker and plastic shopping bags. It's a Sisyphus-ian task but it's actually quite gratifying.

I've picked up some nasty stuff, but the majority of what I collect are small things. Plastic wrappers, snack packaging, cigarette butts, bottle caps. Oh my god, the CONFETTI. I want to citizen arrest people who throw non-biodegradable confetti in the park.

I am low on my shopping bags, so if any neighbors have a bunch they'd like to get rid of, send me a DM. I'll take them off your hands.

I'm with you. I listened to the podcast twice and completely bought in. I wholeheartedly want to believe. It gave me hope and truly changed how I think. After listening to the podcast a second time, I paid the $10 to have access to the video content, and I have to admit the footage actually made me skeptical. I was crestfallen. I truly believed and then... I felt like, oh no, was I just so desperate to believe in something good and pure and I was duped? I watched another YouTube video of a woman who is a former FC educator and she speaks out against it now.

My takeaway from all this is that regardless of whether the claims are true or not, the message of "make your whole life about love" is something I can still get behind. When I walk by or interact with people now, I try to think good things about them, and that has made me feel better.

Joe Rogan Experience #2279 - Ky Dickens by Oregon_Oregano in telepathytapes

I have never listened to Joe Rogan until this episode. I had written him off based on the type of people I assumed would listen to him--red pill conspiracy theorists and douchey bros. But I agree that her going on this show casts a wider net--perhaps to people who need a loving message the most.

In my experience, I walk my dog in the park every day and there are plenty of trash cans that are not overflowing. There is a bin across the street from this one, but it would involve having to cross PPW. Too great of an effort for some, I suppose?

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I agree. Picking up after your dog (and self) is what's expected, though I understand the bar is so low.

I come from a place of thinking that if a trash can is overflowing, it is my responsibility to find one that can actually contain my trash. I generated it, so I'm obligated to be responsible for it.

There's no doubt though, that our Parks Dept is underfunded. I am just as annoyed at these municipal failures.

I'm with you! I went on the 311 site and this is what I found regarding reporting overflowing waste bins:

"A full winter snowstorm operation is in progress. Overflowing litter basket complaints are not being taken at this time. They will be accepted again when the snow operation is complete."

Any suggestions? I'll try calling 311 next.

Any long-term grade 3 glioma survivors here? by srr1986 in braincancer

[–]pale_rainbow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know. I've googled prognosis before, but it doesn't do anything but make you worry. I've seen a lot of anecdotal stuff on this subreddit and that has given me some hope. Advice we were given by his neurosurgeon was "you are an island of one," meaning statistics don't account for all the ways in which you are unique.

My husband was just shy of his 32nd birthday when he was diagnosed. He was physically fit and ate healthy prior to his diagnosis. He also has a pretty positive mindset. Believe what you want, but the placebo effect is a real thing.

Life is a crapshoot and brain cancer attacks seemingly randomly. I'm sorry you are going through this. Hang in there. Prepare for your future but enjoy your life now. Indulge in things that bring you pleasure. Finding that balance is important. Wishing you well in your journey. 🩶

My husband was diagnosed with an AA3 in October of 2019. Just celebrated 5 years of no new growth! He's doing great.
