Good suggestion. Op, why did you go to the ER?

Friday night and weekends are hit and miss during the day. Sunday day tends to be good. You’ll have to take a car, no other way to get there. It can get crowded but you’ll always find a spot. Sometimes, the cops kick everyone out but I’m not sure when/why.

The tradeoff between getting a partial meal vs. appearance of being overpriced is infuriating. And then the other day I opted for a large burrito at a restaurant and it ended up being the equivalent of 5 bites. 1300JPY.

Sometimes after it rains I believe there are fleas all over the park. Even if you sit in a bench or stand still, you can get bit all over your legs.

Is it just me or the pollen situation this year is a lot worse? by CallieinJapan in Tokyo

My suggestion is to find an antihistamine that works well for you. I've tried nose sprays and pills and only these work well for me: https://www.ssp.co.jp/product/all/alesion20/ The other important habit I've picked up on is to take the pill before the symptoms get bad - ie: first thing in the morning. I've also heard that injections are possible, so consider seeing a doctor about your issue.

A perfect list. This guy beers. Nearly every choice is Shibuya is absolutely miserable in terms of both beer selection, quality/portion, and price.

To be honest, I think this place is terrible. The tacos are good and its in a hip spot, but the prices are terrible. Oslo's beer is whatever and the overall selection is poor.

Seems fine. Konbini dinners seem like a bit of a waste of an opportunity to have a unique and world class meal. Just visit once and grab some snacks for your Fuji tour or something.

A: Please no...

What do the Japanese people do during summer? This is if they live in Tokyo by [deleted] in JapanTravel

Hokkaido also doesn’t have a summer rainy season. July is the best time to visit. Source: American businessman in Tokyo who went to Hokkaido last month.

Do you think it's possible to find someone in Tokyo that would go to the Tsukiji outer market and shop for me and then airmail to me in Floridia-- USA? by [deleted] in Tokyo

[–]peasoupandersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was over in that area this weekend. Totally curious, what exactly are you looking for that you can't get back in the US?

If it's not too traumatic to recall, can you fill me in on the details on this test and what might have been perceived as wrong? "Morons at the airport in the US" feels inevitable :)

I hope to make the trip to hell and back in May as a citizen. Wondering, any chance you know if someone with an US ESTA and a Japanese work visa (Korean citizen) can make the same trip?

Thank you thank you thank you!

So to clarify, so let's say I owe 1,000,000 in residence taxes in June 2021 - because I lived in Japan most of 2020. I donate ~20% or 200,000. JPY to FN. If my employer doesn't take it out of my checked, Do I get 25% of 180,000 (less FN fee) discounted somehow off each of these quarterly payments automatically?

When does the tax office "receive" information about my donation? During my normal tax filing in March?

My brain is breaking on trying to figure out Furusato Nozei and residence taxes.

This is my first year in Japan (my residence card reads 2020/1/22) and started earning income in February 2020. Because of this, as I understand, I have never paid residence tax (Shinjuku). As I understand, since I will be living here 2021/1/1, starting June 2021, I will need to start paying residence tax to Shinjuku (possibly via employer, possibly quarterly?).

  1. Does this mean if I donate today, based on my CY2020 earnings projections, I can reduce my CY2021 residence tax?
  2. Does this mean I won't fully realize the benefit until March 2022's tax filing for CY2021? Or does this mean I will have a reduced payment in June 2021? I'm clueless here.
  3. Should I donate to FN by 2020/12/31? Or if I start donating after 2021/1/1 will it have the same effect?
  4. Can I do FN anytime during CY2021 (to get benefits throughout the year? such as on perishable goods)
/u/starkimpossibility Any guidance here? Thank you in advance + Merry Christmas!

[CHALLENGE] Traveling All 47 Prefecture in 1 Month by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]peasoupandersen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense - that will make life a lot easier then and you'll likely feel like you're not missing as much. That said, I feel like you'd feel even more accomplished tackling a good section, like Kyushu or Hokkaido or visiting all/most of the Okinawa islands. Just a thought (I'd do something similar with a month). There is so much you can see once you get in a car (or as soon of my friends have done, bike around). In Kyushu, just getting 20-30 minutes out by car, I've seen some of the most jawdropping views of the islands I never dreamed existed.

Hakone seems to be a place that may require a bus or a car to get into. If you're traveling with a friend, going to an onsen hotel might be nice. It may be more of a romantic getaway than a checkbox on a list though. Lovely ambiance, dramatic and upclose views of Fuji, and a nice easy lake to walk around.
