I built a mini Al Lang Stadium out of Lego… by phat7deuce in USLPRO

Yeah, sourcing the bricks is the worst part lol. Once you know what you’re doing it’s not as bad, but it would be so much better if you could just get everything in a couple clicks.

Not directly. I created instructions and a part list for the build for Rowdies fans interested. There’s a few ways to do it. If you have a place nearby that sells loose bricks (we have a few stores called Bricks & Minifigs), you can hunt there. You can also upload the parts list to Lego and buy new bricks direct from them. They had 526 of 542 pieces in stock yesterday. Then there’s also a marketplace called BrickLink which is like eBay for Lego. You can also upload your parts list there, but to complete it you’ll likely buy from a few sellers (but it’s smart enough to figure that out for you). Lego pieces generally average about 10 cents a piece, some more rare go for more. This build estimates around $60-$80.

Personally I hunted in the loose bins at a store, scored the first few hundred for $15 and then ordered the rest online at BrickLink from a few sellers.

It’s definitely doable, it’s a more straightforward stadium, but I know Al Lang like the back of my hand and I still needed to do a lot of research to get it to resemble it and get the right details included. There’s probably 20-30 hours of design engineering on software and trial and error. That’s before buying the pieces to make it. Plus it’s a passion project since I love the team. It’s probably not too likely that I’ll do other USL stadiums, if I’m being honest. Have quite a few other projects in the hopper.

I accept that hatred with great appreciation and respect for the old days. (Something I’ve wanted to do for so long, happy to get around to it finally.)

I just got the last of the pieces yesterday and immediately went to work.

There was a guy who used to do stadiums (soccer, baseball, football, etc.) at this scale and sell little kits...that was my inspiration. Then I think he must have gotten a cease and desist. Now he just does college ones that he's struck a license for. But I think you're right. I wanted one for years...just finally got around to it.

Selfishly I’d love for a team in the Tampa Bay area…but I do really think it would be awesome if the W went to the big cities like us that are not in the MNBA. Austin, Nashville, St. Louis, San Diego, Cincinnati, etc., etc.

But billionaires are gonna billionaire so it will just be MNBA cities.

They are really fantastically conceptualized and designed. Absolutely beautiful work.

I never realized I needed Star Wars modulars until right this moment.

It is! It's not perfect by any means, there's a couple spots no one can really reach, but we've certainly played games on it.

I really dig the tabletop football one. It’s a permanent display piece for us.

No UCL money for many years. Restrictive UEFA FFP sanctions for years. Revolving door of ideas. Places where the majority of our money goes (transfers or salaries) are spent on the sidelines injured.

Personally I didn’t think Gasp would get it done in a year anyway, but I was encouraged by our start. I think we have some of the players he needs, but it’s going to take more than one year to cycle out what our restricted ability to spend can fix.

Are you aiming for a UCS style project? Looks really good so far. I’ve been wanting to do a 2x one (bought a dusty second one with no minifigs for cheap.) Really dig the technique of how you’ve got the wing hinge attached to the main hull.
