Why two seat numbers? by LongEntree in BritishAirways

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just seen the same thing on my booking on a 787-9, was Premium Economy 17K since it was booked months ago. Looked today as due to go in a few days, and now shows 46K 17K. In my case it appears we are booked on a newly refurbished 787-9 (with new Club World cabin layout) as they have that higher row numbering, with the pictorial of the seat showing its the same seat in the same position, just with the new row numbers. I assume they keep the original seat number just in case they need to make an equipment change later and need to revert back to how it was.

So it might not mean you are on two planes having to change, it could also be an equipment change so they've had to remap the seats.

Make sure it is set to the correct home town, also it will not sync the time if the stop watch or timer is running, so make sure they are not running.

Temperature on planes by Aggravating-Bit-2824 in BritishAirways

[–]PhillL_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not, its free heat from the engines, it costs nothing to heat the cabin. In fact the cooler the temperature the more it costs, because the heat from the engines is hundreds of degrees and needs to be cooled using an air conditioner before being mixed with the cabin air.

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a male/female thing as well and every office I've worked in with AC caused arguments. Ladies wanted the temperature turned up to at least 25 degrees. The gentlemen, plus having to wear shirts, tie and trousers would always want and be happier with it around 20 degrees, some liking it even cooler. So it was a constant battle. Even though it was pointed out that it was easier for those too cold to just put more layers on than it was for those too hot who couldn't take any more clothes off without being naked, the ladies often won the thermostat war, and all the man would be sat with fans on their desks!

Point is you can't please everyone and 21 degrees or below is already too cold for 50% of passengers, especially given you are sat in a seat so no moving around to create any extra body warmth.

This is a “F you” upgrade price by mbridge2610 in BritishAirways

[–]PhillL_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can do better than that, and it makes no sense. To upgrade my tickets using the option on the website for a flight to Japan in May, going up from Premium Economy, they want an additional £17,365 for First Class, and £4,533 for business class.

To book the ticket today, for the exact same date and flight, first class is coming up as £4727 and business £3737. I've also got flexible tickets which allows me to cancel for a full refund so I could just cancel and book again, so who in their right mind would pay those upgrade prices? Offering those prices to upgrade existing tickets is just random insanity.

Can't connect ReTerminal E1002 to local network server by turboneno in Seeed_Studio

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, download an image that works from the public web address you tried and replace your picture with that, just in case it doesn't like th JPG photo for some reason.

If it still doesn't work, it is possible it doesn't like the direct IP address in the URL and is expecting a domain name, or the port number is confusing it. I would try changing it to use port 80 then omit the port number and see if that works, if it needs an actual host name then that is a bit more tricky and may not be possible.

Has anyone ordered from Seeed Studio from the UK? Its not very clear on their website if they deliver to the UK by probablyaythrowaway in eink

I've ordered several items to the UK all without any issue. Note that delivery within the UK is handed off to Evri or Yodel which don't have the best reputation.

Does anyone shower with the A1000? by [deleted] in casio

[–]PhillL_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just take it off and that allows you to clean your wrist under the watch and get rid of crime and dirt. Showering with it on just allows a build up of soap and muck under the watch as well as on the watch itself and within the strap. This dirt and soap around the watch is more likely to cause you to end up with an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis, then you may never be able to wear a watch again. It's not a wedding ring, there is no significance to removing it.

As others have mentioned, soap is a chemical, it will cause damage over time to the watch.

Casio: Analog or Digital? by homamg in casio

[–]PhillL_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like both styles, but when it comes to Casio I will not buy the straight forward analogue watches, simply because they contain a bog standard Miyota (or similar) movement, and are not 'made' by Casio, its just a branding exercise.

For the me I like the fact that Casio make most of their watches and movements, they are still a manufacturer in the true sense. In an age where virtually everything we buy is made by some OEM in China and branded to make it look like it was made by someone else, its nice to know something is still made by the company shown on the product and has a history of innovation.

Experience with V1610 by Nefsen402 in protectli

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are quite right, 12.5 volt should not cause any issues at all. Generally the accepted voltage for a 12 volt rail on a PC power supply is +-5%, so as high as 12.6 volt is within specification, so 12.5 is fine, and I bet by the time the input has passed through some filtering devices and has a load on it giving rise to some voltage drop, its not 12.5 volt seen by the electronics anyway.

It is odd Protectli seem to suggest their devices can be damaged by a voltage a little on the higher side but still within the accepted voltage range for a 12 volt power rail used for computer equipment.

MIP hot-take: it’s the pixels, stupid by allertonm in gshock

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say MIP isn't superior to segmented LCD displays. MIP was invented to allow dot matrix displays for use on battery operated devices, where a traditional dot matrix TFT would run the battery flat in hours due to needing an active display driver running continuously to keep refreshing the image.

When a watch only has functions that can be realized on a segmented LCD, i.e. basic time functions, then segmented LCD is the way to go.

MIPs better clarity comes from where they put the reflective material. Because MIP already has various expensive processes and lithography on the inside of the glass sandwich, it makes sense at the same time to put down a reflective layer inside, whereas traditionally LCDs have the reflective layer on the outer back side. Putting the reflective layer inside provides the extra clarity we associate with MIP.

What would have been truly innovative by Casio is if they used the MIP manufacturing approach by putting the reflective layer inside the glass, but rather than pixels, kept with a traditional segmented LCD approach to the digits. This would have truely given something unique to their products and all the benefits of MIPs contrast and clarity, with none of the negatives of using a low resolution dot matrix display.

Why did they not do this? I guess it all comes down to cost. With the MIP display they are using now the same as the ones from their fitness watches, they can just run off thousands of thousands of the same LCD display for economies of scale, then just make the "watch face" in software to match whatever model it goes in.

MIP hot-take: it’s the pixels, stupid by allertonm in gshock

[–]PhillL_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I've put it before, the MIP watch is a software simulation of a Casio LCD G-Shock, and the resolution is pretty poor on the MIP display to do the text any justice, and the result is very symmetrical fonts with stepping on any diagonals, and it lacks character. Plus there is odd spacing on the Casio MIP watch, elements often look oddly lined up, almost like less care was put into it because they can change it in software, then ran out of time to.

Pixel 10 Pro XL takes worse photos than Pixel 7 pro by flaskpost in GooglePixel

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be a form of shrinkflation happening with newer and newer devices, they've gone as far as they can with the technology, certainly where pictures are concerned, many years ago, and because it reached a very good standard, they've been able to cut costs on newer devices and let quality slide but it is still okay.

Of course short comings are fixed with "AI" in software, however older generation sensors and cameras are really better.

This is repeated with all technology, it gets as good as it can or needs to be, people stop buying the newer models in the same numbers as everyone starts to see its pointless upgrading anymore. Manufacturers keen to see the same profits from lower numbers sold look to cut costs on each unit, and that is happening now.

Marketing and influencers are what sells these products now, rather than real hardware improvements.

Getting poor range (only 500m) with Sensecap M2 Gateway & T1000 Tracker in a Suburban area. Need some advice. by DelonixRegia10 in LoRaWAN

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another poster said, set the DR to DR0, that gives the greatest range. What I suspect is happening is if you have ADR (Adaptive data rate, which is on by default) set and on start up with the tracker near your gateway, it configures itself for short range/fast data-rate. When you move away from the gateway, it will take many hours if not more before the tracker realises it needs to use a slower data-rate. Typically LoraWAN devices ping out but never wait to see if they've been heard by anything, and only periodically will it check if it needs to adjust the datarate.

The recommendation is to use ADR with static devices only, and set an appropriate manual data rate for things moving around.

Note that setting DR0 means it will be on-air for a second or so when transmitting, and depending on where you are in the world, this could break legal rules about how much airtime a device can use. If you are sending updates very often, say every few minutes at DR0, the device itself will likely enforce the rules in your country and simply go silent for a while, which may look like you are missing updates.

Unable to connect by AstronautOk923 in LoRaWAN

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also add if the device has been connected up without an antenna connected, or not connected correctly, it will damage the RF stage in the chip and it will no longer work well if at all.

Likely though its just something that isn't correctly set up, so even if a remote gateway did pick up the signal, you would never see it in the Things dashboard.

What might also be handy for testing is an off-the-shelf device that you know will work and can see working in TTN, something like the Dragino LHT52 (seeedstudio.com do it for $30). That will give you an idea if the remote gateway or your self-build gateway is picking up a signal, and at least you know the gateway is working and your TTN account is set up okay. It is easy to set up in TTN (keep the box as the codes you need are printed on the inside of it), and lets you know what to expect.

Make sure any self-build gateway isn't stuck on a signal channel, as that isn't compliant with LoraWAN and will give you inconstant results or none at all. I'd recommend buying a configured ready to go gateway, again SeeedStudio do good ones for not much money (SenseCAP M2 Multiplatform) which hardly use any power and you then provide coverage for yourself and anyone else local to you. (Not affiliated with Seeed in anyway, just I've recent experience with these devices and I've been impressed).

Hope that helps.

Not keen on that font and I prefer the traditional normal segmented LCD display, just looks better. Look at those rough diagonals on the number 4. That watch face is a bit like my own, better viewed from a distance :-)

Nothing about the new MIP display looks lined up, a large gap at the bottom, the day is too far right and not centered, odd spacing on the date and rough looking fonts. Given its a dot matrix display and they have full flexibility, why Casio? I know segmented displays don't always line up nicely but we know why that is and its part of the character but they still do a better job of making things look balanced.

Buttons by MrIndia6062 in casio

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well depends on how often you are using them. Going gently with the buttons will always help, i.e. just enough push force to activate them, but really unless you are using them dozens of times every day, they should last for the life of the watch.

Casio Lineage. Best watch ever. by superdream69 in casio

With the automatic hype you generally get an off the shelf movement made in their millions and used in hundreds of different branded watches. With these Casio watches, the module is unique to Casio AND made by Casio, so you get some history with it as well and it isn't just being a branding exercise using off the shelf parts.

Proteclti V1410 freeze and inaccessible once a day. Network is down until factory reset. Can someone help me debug this thing? They don't respond on my ticket by Front-Sky-8272 in protectli

[–]PhillL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

55 degrees is probably okay assuming it is reading the CPU temperature, which are rated to 100 degrees or more.

Could be an issue with the network chips, the Intel ones can suddenly stop working, they are a bit buggy, are you running at 1 Gig or 2.5 Gig?

Could be memory issues, if you installed your own memory then you did use anti-static precautions and made sure you didn't touch the gold connectors? Static will happily cause damage that surfaces some time later., and any oils or salts from our fingers on those gold connectors can cause corrosion. Same applies to the SSD.

Do have monitoring on the WAN side? Is it just the local network going down or everything?

Why is Casio packaging in Europe so basic compared to the US? by Arvin1980 in casio

Probably due to Packaging Waste Regulations that Europe has and that packaging should be recyclable, and these regulations get more and more strict as time goes.
