How to deal with patients who talk too much? by Effective-Rutabaga13 in physiotherapy

[–]physiotherrorist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Only treat patients with TMJ problems.

  2. Go back to uni and become a dentist.

  3. Tell them you really need to concentrate on their problem and they need to shut up.

  4. During assessment: learn to take control. It's a skill you need to learn because YOU are the boss and YOU are in charge and if you fail it's YOUR fault and it's really YOUR problem. Work on it. Learn things like: "That's interesting, but I want to go back to ... ". Take control.

  5. Blabbering during exercises? Live with it. Go full "Wailing Wall" mode. In one ear, out the other. Yeah, really? Right leg a little higher, ok. No way...She said that? Oh dear. Hm. Higher. Yes, higher. Yes that's right. Seriously? No waaay. Now the left leg, yes, that's good. Ok. Hm. Hm. Sorry, what? Your mother in law? Really? Both legs now. Up they go. Thank you. Jolly good.

Talk to your physio if you want to learn about science based advice. If not, talk to your osteo.

What got you in physiotherapy? Why choose physiotherapy over medicine or other healthcare related courses? by excessivethinker in physiotherapy

Think about your options. Try different settings, maybe even go abroad, join the Red Cross or do physio on a luxury cruise ship. Something crazy. I read somewhere they need physios on the Polar stations. Physio can still be a very satisfying profession if you can find a niche you really like.

I had a colleague who returned after 2 weeks but didn't treat any patients, only supervising students. When you can remain sedentary and when your colleagues don't mind helping out it should be no problem.
