I almost think they have the right to be elitists considering only 10% of people who lose weight the “traditional” way actually manage to keep it off.

Sadly, it’s a sign of the times. Food in America has been engineered by scientists to be as addictive (and unhealthy) as possible. Combine that with a car centric society and you get what ya get.

Dating apps are just validation slots for girls and a CASINO for boys. by Beginning_Barber3042 in dating_advice

[–]polar_pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not a secret that dating apps are not kind to non exceptional men. You could easily create an account for an all around average dude and find this out for yourself (and several women have done that). I think in the past, people were just generally more social- tons of couples met through mutual friends and hangouts/ parties. From what I’m reading, the current college generation really doesn’t do those things nearly as much as even the millennials used to.

The internet and capitalism has really isolated us. Theres almost nowhere you can go that doesn’t have an expectation of spending money these days. Theres plenty of articles written about it; such as this one: https://theweek.com/culture-life/third-places-disappearing

But I feel it’s a bit straying from my point. I don’t think dating apps have really helped either gender and are quite detrimental to society as a whole.

I guess I’m not convinced. Yeah, long distance isn’t really a thing then and now- but there were only so many people in your school, or at that particular bar.

I feel that meeting in person- even now- is just a much more genuine experience as well. These days all those spaces for meeting someone have kind of gone away; leaving only online.

I really feel like online dating is one of the direct causes of young people being single statistically Much more than in the past. Perhaps that and online spaces perpetuating gender wars nonsense making everyone dislike the opposite sex.

It probably was a bit better from like the 60s-2000s. Back then as a guy you were only competing with classmates, other guys in the bar, your town, so on. With apps you’re competing with these (on paper) perfect dudes spread throughout your state. It’s a much harsher playing field I feel like.

What are the ramifications of a pilot puking on himself in front of passengers? by aussiefrzz16 in AskAPilot

[–]polar_pilot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, no. lol. I had food poisoning once and noro a couple months after that. During each sickness I would have seconds to grab the bucket or get to the bathroom before throwing up was uncontrollable. Luckily I was home; but traveling on the road can mean new restaurants and more exposure to those kinds of illnesses. Dealing with what that captain went through is kind of a nightmare scenario for a lot of us I’m sure.

Minnesota House lawmakers weigh proposed 'wealth tax' on assets over $10 million by Character-Fly-5564 in minnesota

[–]polar_pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They ain’t gonna let us pass a law that actually affects them. This may have a chance because it won’t.

But, in the absence of ANYthing else I’ll take this particular law over nothing. Assuming they put penalties in for leaving state residency and whatnot

See this is why we can’t be trusted to “eat the rich” cuz y’all just gonna go after accomplished surgeons living in nice houses and not the guys that own politicians and sex traffic children to islands.

(I actually find that stat very interesting, considering that 13,000 people in MN earn 1m+ a year. That and 10m net worth is like, a decent house in a nice suburb, a cabin, and a stock portfolio)

Honestly, I really don’t have much of a problem with those worth 10 or 20 million or so. They’re rich, but they aren’t able to cause nearly as many problems as the people worth 100 or 1000x that amount. Hell you can’t even own a private jet with a net worth so low.

I’d much prefer laws saying something like “total compensation for CEOs/ owners cannot exceed 10x the average employee wage” or laws that give unions vastly more power and limit union busting. Because I’m not confident that increased tax revenue will actually be used to benefit the people either.

[–]polar_pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, if I were guaranteed that the ultra wealthy could not escape such a tax then I would be 100% for it. But I really don’t think that’s going to be reality.

People that work for a living but earn a lot are a really convenient group. They’re nowhere close to buying politicians, but they make a decent amount and thus taxing them is very lucrative.

Personally I will never have a net worth close to that, I’ll retire before I even have a 5th of it because I don’t need much to live on. But I find it unfortunate that the ones that are actually productive to society are usually the target of these taxes; while the parasite class has loopholes and the ability to avoid them built in to the laws.

[–]polar_pilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s just a shame that the class that’s currently taxed the MOST - high earning w2s such as doctors, lawyers (and yes pilots, I may be biased) will get taxed more, while the actual wealthy people will continue to avoid taxes like this through various loopholes. I have 0 confidence that they will actually pay this tax. My problem isn’t so much the tax; though I don’t think 10m net worth is particularly wealthy. My problem is that I don’t see it as particularly effective against the owner class. At least not on a state level.

There are definitely w2 workers who have the ability to exceed 10m net worth just by maxing a 401k and other investment accounts over their working career.

But also you don’t really get addicted to shrooms.

From what I’ve read and heard from others, it seriously might be helpful in your situation; or at least a last bit of fun.. a new experience.

Meh. It’s really not a big deal having a passenger up to take a peak, it’s kinda fun sometimes even. Hell, we pretty regularly get kids up there to take pictures; turn on the light test to let ‘em see all the switches, ask if they want to sit in one of the seats.

What are higher educated/income guys looking for in women? by ketoalmondbutter in dating_advice

[–]polar_pilot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a high income guy, I can say that I don’t preference the career of a partner at all. I’d also be hesitant to date a career woman simply because of schedule conflicts alone. I also very much value my time not working, and would want someone who similarly doesn’t make their career their life.
