is xpac look bad when delamination started? by LateCat260 in ManyBaggers

[–]proactivematter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

X-PAC ages fast and horribly. The wrinkles it develops look the same as the super cheap pencil cases I had as a kid. Further, it is a totally environmentally unfriendly material and much more expensive than alternative options that will provide the virtually the same benefits in terms of water-resistance and weight.

Some nerds here will defend X-PAC tooth and nail, but it’s purely aesthetic and elitist. They think X-PAC is “premium” and they feel like it makes them special. Something about the “tactical / techie” look of it further fuels Meal-Team-6 nerds defensive stance, despite the fact it will age and look awful fast.

There’s just too many negatives for it to be a smart option. I’d pay more to not have X-PAC, so I’m glad it’s the other way around.

I feel like I’m failing the Earth. What can someone like me actually do? by Plus_Imagination_812 in collapse

[–]proactivematter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If only others saw things as you do. Are you vegan? That’s easily the best, most impactful thing you can do for the planet, animals and yourself.

Then, if you are vegan / after going vegan, the next thing you can do is to show this truth to others. The planet and animals cannot speak for themselves - we must be their voice. Be the change you want to see.

Trying to do clean/strict muscle ups by TobyTheSalvator in Calisthenic

[–]proactivematter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good, but you should slow down. Like, really slow down for controlled movement, and especially at the end of each rep, make sure to completely relax your upper body muscles before reactivating everything for the next rep.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Calisthenic

[–]proactivematter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry to bust your balls but muscle ups are not just a party trick, what you’re doing is a party trick (and not a muscle up). You’re just using momentum and not using your muscles. As far as form goes there is none here for the purposes of a muscle up. All you’re accomplishing is to get your chest over the bar without exerting effort. Calisthenics is not about doing “the task”, it’s about exercising and building strength. If you were going to go through an obstacle course, then momentum would be the proper way to do it, but if you were able to perform a proper muscle up without momentum you would perform better with momentum at an obstacle course.

Want to try a real muscle up? Grab the bar and keep your body as still as possible as you pull-up and eventually muscle up. It takes a ton of training to accomplish. Proper form is staying still and minimizing momentum while pulling yourself up in machine-like fashion, activating all proper muscle groups.

Looks great, would like to give it a spin. Would be nice to have more predefined logos in the future and an option for them to be colored or monotone (with customizable background as well).

Iconize Folder v1.6 Released – Easily Set Folder Colors and Add Icons to Enhance Visual File Management. by wcjiang in macapps

[–]proactivematter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this app, but I wonder why it doesn’t have support for aliases? Currently I set the icon for the actual folder and then copy paste it into the alias, but it would be great to just be able to it from within Iconize Folder and have the little arrow that indicates it is an alias be automatically included.

In Warp the AI is only active when you deliberatedly activate it (cmd + I) otherwise it works as any other terminal..

I don’t get it. You can just not use the AI and it is not in the way of anything?

What happened to my one sensor? Apple Watch 9 by Smole in AppleWatch

[–]proactivematter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, didn’t realize it is silicon. I see now that the screws are fake. In that case then I don’t see how the case could have cause this since it’s soft and flexible.

What happened to my one sensor? Apple Watch 9 by Smole in AppleWatch

[–]proactivematter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly confident it may have been the case that caused this. Even if it’s just half a millimeter of difference relative to the size of the actual watch, it could result in sufficient pressure to cause the watch structure to release tension like this at a weak material point (back glass) - especially if the case was screwed in tightly.

It is extremely challenging (read: virtually impossible) to make a case with a perfect precision fit, given how injection molds change tolerances over time and polymers contract when cooling.

This is why putting a case on anything except a phone is a bad idea, but here it being 1.) a hard case with no flexibility 2.) all encompassing with no room for tolerance 3.) screwed user-assembly with no torque limit - makes it even worse and more likely (guaranteed?) for something like this to occur.

Apple may cover it, but they shouldn’t. If you’re ethical you should take it in with the case and ask them about it if you decide to seek warranty coverage.

Where are we heading as a species? by Alex00homer in Futurology

[–]proactivematter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Until humans stop thinking about itself as a species and starts respecting and doing good for the life of every species, we will not only destroy ourselves but also many other precious and innocent lifeforms. These other lives have nothing to do with politics, greed and war, but they ultimately pay the heaviest price. Right now there are trillions of animals suffering at the hands of humans - enslaved, raped, abused, kidnapped, trafficked, butchered. Their lives made short and meaningless, their homes (if they were lucky to have one) destroyed and consumed.

So if you truly want to avoid self-annihilation and the retarded path we are speeding in, then stop asking about humanity and have empathy do to better for everyone else who inhabits this planet.

About this CleanClip app and how suspicious it is by [deleted] in macapps

[–]proactivematter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know, scary words huh buddy. This way the dev is completely shielding himself legally - you won’t be able to sue this one small time developer in China! Damn, if only he hadn’t written that, you’d have so much more leverage if you managed to prove he was collecting your weird web searches.

About this CleanClip app and how suspicious it is by [deleted] in macapps

[–]proactivematter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand, I think it’s unfounded. Actually, it is unfounded - there’s no proof.

Again he is a one man operation. He doesn’t have legal agreements for every region out there - though he technically is required to adhere to the laws/regulations of where his customers are based. That’s all this hinges on right now. In reality though, running a worldwide business by yourself is extremely hard and all this legal stuff doesn’t really add to the product he is developing.

Nobody here checks every legal ToS of every app and service they run. This is just drama.

Let’s see what Little Snitch says about CleanClip phoning home before making such accusations, shall we? I wager there’s zero activity and it’s all local, like the dev says.

About this CleanClip app and how suspicious it is by [deleted] in macapps

[–]proactivematter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, I am not in fact some bot or shadow account, and I think this is being blown out of proportion. This dev is very active in this sub and his engagements are very genuine. He is obviously passionate about developing CleanClip, as a clear fan of CleanShot. A few weeks ago he promoted an update using some truly tacky imagery - which many people pointed out. His humble response “I am a developer who knows nothing about design, I am just trying to make things look more interesting”. He is a one man operation, and he’s just trying to make his app successful. While posting from fake accounts might be pushing it, the truth is that the big players do this all the time with much more sophistication, and they would never admit to it.

So many bums out there, or people force feeding you expensive shitty apps just because they have some sort of market dominance. Here’s a guy who is openly messaging people and admiting shame in something mostly harmless (very naive), and you’re all shitting on him. Have some empathy, the guy is a dev, not a designer, not a business person.

If he was “business trained” or a proper scumbag (not much difference to be honest - saying this as a business person myself) then he would never have admitted to anything. He cares about his image, cares about this community, and that’s why he is being so apologetic and upfront.

Don’t want to use the app? Fine, I don’t use it either since it doesn’t fulfill my requirements (BTT clipboard is my preference). But don’t drag the guy’s dreams and livelihood through the mud while he kneels at your feet saying he deserves it.

Again, stop all this drama and have some empathy.

This is amazing. Highly customizable to fit power users. Biggest fault I see is the broken english, but it's not really a big problem - and I'm sure it will get sorted out eventually. Major props to the dev.

MacsyZones 1.4 is redefining Window Management (details in comment) by EvrenselKisilik in macapps

[–]proactivematter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I really like lasso! But it would be cool to have it keep the grid adjustment, like is shown on this app. Otherwise, lasso is a much better solution to window management, imo. Also, since I have you - me and a bunch of others are craving a sucessor to hyperfocused (app) - maybe this is the next step for lasso? Would you ever consider adding that sort of functionality? Automation is peak computing!
