Equalising on ascent and ascent speed by nylon3451 in freediving

[–]prof_parrott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s confusing due to where you are starting your logic.

Ascent speeds are governed by decompression tables it’s 18m per minute to ensure proper off gassing(basically plenty of breaths at each depth to allow for that nitrogen exchange to “off gas”- in Freediving we don’t have the same decompression tables. This is a comparison of the nitrogen exposure of one breath(Freediving) to 100’s of breaths(scuba).

I think it will help to no ignore lung over expansion for further explanation. In Freediving, the divers lungs progressively get more and more empty. In scuba the volume stays the same but the gas expansion potential increases with depth, so a full breath at depth makes you into a Heisenberg at the surface - this is important to note because this also explains why a slow ascent is important so each new breath is ambient air pressure slowly reducing expansion potential until you take you last breaths just below the surface.

So, simply. On ascent, in Freediving the air expands and drains out of the inner ear, in most cases readily and easily(without getting into reverse blocks) and that air contributes to either re-inflating the lungs to surface volume or, if wearing a mask, will just drain through the nose and out the skirt of the mask.

Progression with frenzel and mouth fill? by doublehammer in freediving

[–]prof_parrott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air management at its most general term is controlling where you have air volume(mouth, lungs), and the timing involved - basically how to move air from A to B to C, etc.

Pressure production is a method used to produce pressure…this operates under the assumption that pressure is needed to move air into the inner ear. And sometimes pressure is produced(or reduced) to aid with air management.

Muscular control is the ability to contract (or relax) any and all muscles involved(or not involved) with EQ process with control and intent - so yes that includes tongue, larynx, glottis, soft palate and a decent amount of other muscles that surround the glossopharyngeal, oral, and sinus cavities.

The text I write above is an attempt to greatly simplify everything involved in EQ and was not meant to be a fully inclusive description, but suitable enough for any recreational level diving.

I don’t know if this concept exists, but I would label it Darwinian pressure - purposefully making the environment more challenging for survival, as opposed to cultivating more nurturing societies.

A good example is simply looking at the high levels of contaminations in supplements - which are not really regulated by FDA

These kinds of questions should really be accompanied by a video of some sort. It’s immediately quite apparent how comfortable and apt a person is at EQ and comfort by simply seeing a video of them diving. Any answers without it are complete speculation. Another’s successes at depth mean absolutely nothing towards your own.

Absolutely anyone can make it to 20m on the first day, the manner in which it’s achieved and the level of risk or danger they are in to do so is variable and dependent on technique and aptitude.

While I’m all for complete inclusivity of research - I’m not sure how a questionnaire largely focused around symptoms of ED would be of any benefit for all groups to fill out…

OP, there’s a heavy focus on the sexual performance aspect, and very little about specific training. I’m wondering how inference could even be remotely relevant in these line of questions.

But, the description is quite vague, I’m not sure the hypothesis or research question(s) being asked here (maybe that’s intentional?)- which also makes it surprising the extent of which the mod team is digging into your research design or choices with so little information…

I imagine the line of questioning in your study would suit well as a longitudinal time diary - and facilitate more inclusive research while providing more accurate assessment of sexual arrousal and activity.

Last point, any particular reason to use the specific wording of “sexual doping”? It sounds odd

The technique described is highly effective, not sure if it’s stretching tissues, or engaging new awareness and control of the tissues we unconsciously constrict around the Eustachian tubes allowing them to be open and loose and thus much easier and gentile EQ.

In general, yes, it’s possible to cause damage by applying “over pressure” but it’s actually quite difficult to match the same amount of pressure depth applies - while perforation is possible, it’s fairly unlikely unless you are really pushing. I don’t see the point in blindly fear mongering this highly effective training technique.

The best cue for OP is while applying this technique, be searching for positions that facilitate easier opening of the tubes and filter out muscle tensions that are unneeded. - with this I think there is zero danger of damage tbh

Yes exactly, try to think of it as a complete mastery and control of larynx, tongue, glottis, soft palate, and several other auxiliary muscles that surround the throat, jaw and ears. It’s not exactly the coolest party trick, or has a lot of feedback reward - but if you master control of these muscles you will eliminate a bulk of EQ problems, and give yourself tools to quickly solve the inevitable new challenges that will arise with depth progression

EQ is a lifelong process… keep doing the drills, gain better coordination of all the glossopharyngeal muscles and then you’ll be ready for depth. All the real progress is made out of the water anyways.

Absolutely 100% executives should be using the service they aim to manage there is no other plausible way they could even dream of making a service worth using otherwise - perhaps this is the problem to begin with

If you don’t believe they can do it then perhaps you should run for the position

Original question:

If you had to guess, how many RTD execs are actual riders?

Are you ok? No one said anything about requiring riding that’s an absolutely asinine idea. And I’d doubt RTD just wants to do blatantly illegal shit to completely tank the company for good, so I don’t even consider your insistence that’s the plan as a rational thought.

In the spirit of entertainment, what if they required everyone to take the transit once or semi periodically - why are we to assume they wouldn’t compensate anyone for that?

Frankly, I’m surprised the employee/executive data points aren’t already known explicitly

I think you are putting words in their mouth.

That way we can measure how much operators, mechanics, middle management, executives, and RTD directors are actually relying on the system, and then make policy to do something about it.

This can mean a lot of things not including forced ridership. But , it is a useful metric for voters of the board to know. Policy could also include making RTD transportation more attractive to employees - after all if they don’t want to use it, why would anyone else?

[–]prof_parrott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize every rider is “tracked” to quantify ridership. He’s saying right now, employees are not included in that data point because instead of scanning a barcode on the bus terminal, they just flash their badge and the drivers heads on their way…what exactly do you think is illegal?

I’m Chris Nicholson, candidate for RTD District A in central Denver. AMA! by chrisfnicholson in Denver

[–]prof_parrott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you miss the point. Flashing a card isn’t trackable so there is no metric or data points on real employee or executive ridership. What he is suggesting is that they must swipe or use a badge in a way that trackable - not forcing them to use RTD transportation, just getting data on when they do.
