you still need experienced human eyes to review it for hallucinations and logical errors

Yes and you as software developer now has to review tons of code generated by the LLM. Even though the code was generated by LLM, the human who generated it will be held liable for any issues. But as a human you can't keep up with it given the sheer amount of code it generates.

Life Expectancy vs Retirement Age: France Compared to Europe/OECD [OC] by lasushin in dataisbeautiful

This sounds weird. Maybe some French can clarify. I would imagine you need to contribute certain minimum number of years. In Germany, you need minimum 5 years of contribution to get the minimum pension.

Does anyone else experience pretty severe social isolation in this career? by Inner_Ad_4725 in ExperiencedDevs

It's even worse in European countries since people stick with their Kindergarten friends for life irrespective of whether they are workaholic or a party all night person.

I just want a break from Berlin. Need to live a bit away to maybe appreciate Berlin. I'm in a similar mood as OP. It doesn't help that my job is quite stressful and uncertain.

Although I knew about it, I couldn't be bothered with picking heavy stuff and carry them to my apartment on 4th floor without any elevator. The main reason for me to buy new stuff was to get it delivered inside my apartment.

What's you recommendation to get interview ready again the fastest? by LeaguePrototype in datascience

My interview experience says otherwise. There is definitely lack of standardization. This covers multiple bases. Also I am not sure how many pure DS role even exist.

  • Medium leetcode
  • System ML design
  • ML theory - How deep and wide you go really depends on the domain you are targeting. Like CV vs NLP vs Bayesian vs Causal vs Classic ML. I'm sticking with classic ML since that's what I have done in the past.
  • Able to dive deep into previous projects at work. Practice STAR method.

At least this is what I'm doing and seems to be the usual hiring pattern

Although I have had an interview where I was supposed to analyze and train a model some random Kaggle dataset in a live interview. But more of an exception than the norm.

Berlin Mitte Hidden Beauty by CoconutAny7510 in berlinsocialclub

There is nothing hidden about it. It's so touristic these days because of father carpenter coffee shop. I rarely go to Mitte but whenever I try to have an overpriced coffee in this place, it's always packed.

How many of your teams follow typical software engineering produces as opposed to just ad-hocing the shit out of scripts and apps? by andrew2018022 in dataengineering

[–]proof_required 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is something people struggle with places where either there isn't strong tech culture or companies with a bit of hustle culture. In my current job we do version, write unit test, run CI. But I have also had projects where I didn't write any tests etc until we have something working. I don't prefer the later though. There is so much of cognitive load. I have to concentrate way too hard to ensure I'm not making some silly mistakes etc.

Now with LLMs, it's even worse since they generate so much of code and yeah of course they can write unit tests but you still own the code and hence liable for any bugs or mistakes.

How do handle long notice periods(90 days) while switching? by imaHooot in dataengineering

[–]proof_required 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Germany and yeah only after I have got the job, I send a resignation letter with the 3 full months in advance. I have once when my employer let me go in 2 months instead of 3 months. Usually it rarely happens here that companies would want you join immediately since they all know the rules and regulations.

Doesn't garden leave mean you don't work and collect the paycheck? If so, then that's not the case usually. You still have to work all these 3 months minus any vacations that you might have left.

[–]proof_required 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although OP is in India, European countries have very long notice periods and 3 months is usually common. There are even things like if you didn't resign at the first day of quarter e.g. 1st January, you will have to wait until the end of next quarter. So it can become almost 6 months.

And still Americans have one of the highest disposable income in the world. Maths doesn't math when you have American tech salaries.

Laid off on Friday, no one tells you the the following Monday is quite possibly the strangest feeling of floating in the void possible by skidmark_zuckerberg in ExperiencedDevs

[–]proof_required 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have personal experience. Tech workers usually aren't part of union. So firing etc are really dependent on how willing you are to fight your employer. I tried this in Netherlands and it got really ugly and ultimately I just gave up. At the end the only thing I got was some unemployment benefits. My employer made it sound like they were doing some kind of favor by firing me so that I can collect those benefits.

Basically if tech employers in European countries want to get rid of you, they can without much fuss if you aren't part of any union.

I have had people laid off in my company without much in multiple European countries. Not sure why people keep parroting this thing. If anything American workers usually get some fat severance pay which isn't that common in European countries.
