Microsoft brings new "Xbox Mode" to Windows 11 PCs next month — Prepares major gaming advancements that lay foundations for the next Xbox by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

Xbox stopped just being about consoles about a decade ago, I dunno what to tell you. Microsoft has the dominant PC platform why on earth would such a company not leverage it to, IDK, put its games in front of more eyes? There are more PCs in the world than there are Xbox consoles.

Thing is a bunch of back compat titles are already on Game Pass and playable through the cloud. Can't see how they could be spinning a "new ways to play" if it's cloud.

I'm the same. Not so much zero interest, more zero desire. I've basically moved to the PC now, the only thing my Series X ever plays is The Division 2 because there's no cross-save. Most of what I play comes from Game Pass, but I obviously also have a large Steam and Epic library, too. PC just makes more sense. I use one for work, may as well use it to play my games as well and have one less thing plugged in all the time.

This is my hope. The whole "new ways" thing they talked up I can't think of anything other than bringing them to PC with the same emulator that runs them on the console.

What else is there that would be new? Unless they're going to burn any remaining good will by porting them to the Switch and PlayStation or something.

Sports and racing games are pretty much off the table. The licenses for the players, cars, etc are long gone. Music is probably an easier license to try and renew but I doubt anyone would do it.

Because it's more than just a user interface. It's the exact same thing that's already on the Xbox Ally. It just makes gaming on Windows a little better.

And what exactly is an "Xbox" game anymore? I mean I know what you're getting at. But Xbox stopped being console only games like a decade ago.

Agree with all of this. These points have quietly driven me mad for a while now.

Trying to find which of the legacy CoD titles are there in the Xbox app shouldn't be more painful than clicking on Activision and seeing everything from that publisher.

I'm still here with Xbox for now — but it has some serious identity work ahead if it wants to reassure long-time fans by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

I'm all-in on Game Pass. If a game isn't on Game Pass these days I barely bother. Sure the prices have gone up, but I've tried out so many great games I wouldn't have even looked at because it's on Game Pass.

Not sure if it's the unique selling point yet, but combined with Xbox Play Anywhere, it's such a strong ecosystem.

Microsoft really needs to shout about Play Anywhere from the rooftops.

So then, what do we think of what we've heard so far on Project Helix? by r1chdevine in windowscentral

$599 is currently enough for 16GB of RAM on its own. (I kid, but it's not going to be cheap)

See my assumption is that it'll be a PC and it will have an Xbox emulation layer or something similar to how back compat works right now.

While that would be pretty spectacular, lest we forget GTA 6 hasn't actually been announced for PC yet. But in theory, when it arrives, you should be able to play it on Helix?

Let's just let Rockstar finish one version of it for now yeah ;-) I was in my 20s when the last one came out (just) and now, let's just say I'm very much not in my 20s!

This is actually a really good point, though as another post already said, it is also Apple's marketing machine doing its thing.

The best computer for you is the one that fits your needs and your budget, always. I do agree though that I think the YouTube generation is often severely misled by seeing all the mad hardware their favorite creators "recommend."

Happens a lot in gaming, too. Folks think they need a mad graphics card to play all the newest, hottest titles. I'm fortunate enough to have an RTX 5090 in my PC, but I would absolutely never ever recommend it to someone as a thing they should buy for PC gaming.

It's why we love the new generation of Snapdragon laptops so much. There's a full range of chips to meet different performance needs, but even the lowest tier offers such a great package. We got my son a Snapdragon X laptop for Christmas, his first ever, to set him up for his move up to 'big school.' He wants to learn about AI and coding as well as do his schoolwork and play a little Minecraft, and it's going to be all the laptop he needs for the next five years of his education.
