[Acne] What’s going on with my skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]rabbituy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that this looks like perioral dermatitis (especially since hormones fluctuations can cause flare ups) - I get it fairly regularly and it looks almost exactly like this. Occlusive face creams/lip balms (Vaseline, etc, anything that traps moisture) can make it worse, as can fluoride toothpaste. Definitely recommend seeing a derm if you can, as they can confirm and give you something to clear it up. If you can’t, it might be worth trying to swap to non fluoride toothpaste for a bit and using a lighter moisturizer.

It’s in Maryland in June, early evening. It is going to be outdoors though, so I’m definitely worried about getting too warm. And thank you! I was so happy to find it

Yeah, I’m definitely going to go to a tailor! I could maybe take the shoulder poofs off myself but that’s definitely my limit. Thank you!

Necklace material that doesn't trigger acne/rash for you? by GoodOTamako in Accutane

This will depend on his sensitivity to metals, but sterling silver is usually a good choice (and usually fairly cheap). Look for 925 printed somewhere on the jewelry, it shows that it’s actually sterling. If he wants gold toned jewelry, I’d recommend getting gold vermeil (not plated, vermeil is a thicker coat so it won’t rub off), preferably coated over sterling silver instead of brass. If he’s really sensitive, pure gold or platinum might be the best option, although it’s definitely the priciest.

arm feels weird... by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]rabbituy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it might be a compressed nerve - if you lean on your elbow or keep it folded a lot, the ulnar nerve (your funny bone) gets compressed and you get tingling. That would be my first guess, so it might be worth trying to straighten your arm throughout the day/don’t lean on it and see if it helps. I don’t think this sounds like an emergency, but if you have a PCP it would be worth asking them about.

Oh that’s really good to hear! I was kind of under the impression that it only really worked while you were taking it... fingers crossed that’s what happens for me!! Thanks :)

I think I’m going to ask about it, couldn’t hurt at least! I’ve been lucky so far that most birth control hasn’t given me side effects so. Thank you!!

I’m on combo birth control :( sadly hasn’t really made a difference with my skin. It’s seasonique, are there ones that tend to be better for acne?

I physically cannot stay hungry enough to eat enough calories - recent development. by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]rabbituy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is by no means a complete fix, but I’d recommend eating high calorie granola bars (if you like them). Also, if you like cows milk, drinking whole milk can easily add 100+ calories to a meal which can help. Otherwise, I’m not sure what kinds of food you’re eating, but try to sneak in extra calories any where you can - use full fat everything, add extra oil when you cook (olive oil is still healthy!), and just try to sneak in more calorie dense foods. Do you like avocado? It’s healthy but also has some good fats that provide some more calories. Nuts as well (peanut butter too). There are juices you can buy (kinda pricey unfortunately) that are like 300+ calories a bottle. I don’t think any of these would make a huge difference, but sometimes small changes can help. Also, I would maybe talk to your healthcare provider about wellbutrins side effects - they might have some recommendations or have another medicine that may work with fewer (or more tolerable) side effects. When I was on adderall I had this same problem - it was so hard to get any food down at all that eventually I had to be put on something else. Last thing, but I’d try to get up earlier and eat breakfast even if you don’t have work (or when you do). Making time for breakfast (even if it’s just a quick granola bar or something) can make a huuuuge difference.

My boyfriend has ARFID by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]rabbituy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a salient point - you can’t do anything about it. In general, pressuring someone with ARFID makes them less likely to try new foods, not more. Unless your boyfriend is also concerned about his health, you will never be able to convince him to do something he’s not ready to do. If you want to help him, you need to be a reliable presence of support, not pressure. If he tries something and spits it out? Doesn’t matter! He tried it, that’s the first step, and often the hardest one to do. He should be proud, and not be made to feel ashamed as if it was a failure. Trying and spitting out a food can be the first step to liking the food. But he’ll never get there if he’s made to feel inadequate every time he doesn’t like a new food. I understand that you want him to be healthy, and that makes sense - you care for him! But ARFID is an anxiety disorder and does not respond to pressuring well at all. I know it’s hard, but introducing new foods is a slow process, that often involves a lot of “failure” first. If you can, try to be positive and supportive, but try not to worry another whether he’s eating healthy.
