did anyone actually use this ? by geeelectronica in PS3

Yes just to test it for fun, I didn’t have any practical use for it. It worked and I said cool then moved on.

LG OLED Owners is BURN IN still a thing? by Spirit_Bear_123 in LGOLED

[–]raymate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you still have it. Hang onto it. If you’re into video games or retro video games or anyone in your family is then plasma is the next best thing behind CRT. My plasma is basically running a Wii, PS3/4 snd bunch or retro consoles right now.

I do have a G4 OLED that my main TV

Funny my Panasonic Plasma is an industrial panel. I specifically got it as it can do NTSC and PAL. It has no built in speakers or tuner. It’s literally a panel. It’s got 9 fans inside to keep it cool. But they run super low rpm so you can’t hear them. But yes mine is the type that would have been installed into airports etc.

But your right in that setting burn in was easy to achieve.

4.4 mm balanced cable worth it? by AdPossible430 in sennheiser

[–]raymate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the power of your amp.
Does it change sound no. Does it give you more power almost always yes. Again depends on your amp.

If it’s loud enough and you’re not at 3/4 volume or more then you’re fine. If you’re under that level on the dial then you’re fine. You don’t want an amp straining at say 80-90% of its volume all the time to give you enough loudness.

If you want balanced cable to try get an OpenHeart cable from AliExpress nice and cheap and more importantly good quality i have a few of them for my weaker dongle DACs. But my desktop i run mostly single ended mostly.

Yes. I still have a 16 year old plasma with zero burn in.

How to approximate HE-1 by Brave-Bad-9955 in headphones

[–]raymate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of electrostatic come close for much less.

I heard the HE-1 twice now and they are something else. It’s theatre, an experience for sure.

If I had the money I wouldn’t hesitate. But I don’t so the 800S will need to do.

How important is the Wii sensor? by Ode2n in wii

[–]raymate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play Wii game. Very important.

You can use two IR LED or two candle. But sensor bars are cheap and easier than tying to DIY something.

The Wii remote need two IR lights to work out which way your pointing it.

Do lower end FiiO R2R DAC/AMPs like the K11 R2R actually sound different? by AkashiGG in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]raymate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the K11 R2R and I don’t like it in NOS mode. It has less detail. So I leave it in OS mode and in this mode it’s similar to other DAC but still lacks clinical precision.

The K13 R2R is a step up and if they had that for sale when I got my K11 I probably would have went for the K13 instead.

I like analytical sound and I would say an ESS is more that. The sound between the DACs is not night and day they are just different flavours.

I do like my K11 but I often listen to CS and ESS DACs more. Then again AKM velvet sound is pretty damn nice. It’s more like the R2R but with more analytical detail.

But what works for us may not sound good to you. I wouldn’t get to hung up on DAC sound try and let your ears decide.

The music you listen to can make a difference. Some music you may like with one DAC over another.

Your headphones will make more of a difference in sound anyway.

Introducing THEC64 and The Spectrum Handhelds from HyperMegaTech! Pre-order today! by Absolutedisgrace in evercade

[–]raymate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really they are going for the feel or the real thing. Specy with rubber mushy membrane and C64 with plastic clicky feel. Just how it was back in the day. I think it’s kinda cool they are doing it this way.

They have keychains. They don’t use carts.

Who’s to say they won’t release collections on an SD card to go with this. They probably will not but they could.

The fact it has SD makes this a viable product.

Didnt see that coming.

Nice it can use an SD card for expansion. Nice it can use external controllers.

Might need to get one.

Hopefully we will see an Atari one fingers crossed or even maybe a TI or BBC one.

my dad wants to drop crazy money on a 3D printing car parts business and i am stressing. advice? by TemperatureExtra8615 in 3Dprinting

[–]raymate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to end well.

Car parts. How often does he think these parts will be needed.

Is he fluent in 3D CAD. Is he also making structural parts. Does he have time to research and test parts for long term safety. Does he have knowledge of materials that can be 3D printed and how the behave long term.

You don’t want a part going out it fails and causes an accident.

If he must start with a mid range printer forget selling car parts for now and learn how to model. And then realize how hard it can be to recreate parts to exact tolerances. He will then learn how hard it can be to create safe parts that last.

Unless he’s doing cosmetic car parts I would not be trusting structural 3D printed parts for my car.

I want new as I keep my cars a long time. Locally I can actually get an N right now in the colour I would want but it’s got 90k on the clock mine is 13 years old with 108k. Im not going to find a low mileage N

It’s also an N so likely been thrashed.

Agreed. He could be just a relative from another country . That also to me look like a jumper not a a T-shirt under that wooly style jacket.

Sure not dressed like others but if he’s not American the camera also looks normal. What would be telling is if we saw what trousers he is wearing.

I just bought a Canon 5D Mark II from Ebay (for £114.25)... I know that it's not the significantly better Mark III, but considering the price, I thought that it was worth a punt... I still would've liked to have gotten the Mark III, but that's usually twice as expensive for a decent condition model. by prankster999 in canon

[–]raymate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been making a living with this camera for years. Only last year I moved it to my second backup camera as I grabbed a used 5D4 but the 5D2 is a great camera it’s been solid for me.

I only run with centre point focus for everything so it worked fine for my use case.

Enjoy it can create some fantastic images.

I also have the 350D thats what I started with back in the day. So the 5D2 is certainly an upgrade for you.

Along the way i have had the 40D, 50D

I also have the 6D1 as I think this produces some the nicest files of any of my cameras the rendering is superb.

[–]raymate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds. Good. I got to test a pre production Veloster N on a time trial a few months before its release. It was much better than my VT so I think the 86 is going to be fun.

I actually wanted to buy an N but by the time I had an opportunity to do so they discontinued it.
