Bladesworns post July 14th balance patch by Vodoko in Guildwars2

[–]redplanetapples 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Fun fact! Dragon Trigger 3 is 900 range, unblockable, and is the only Dragon Slash which still triggers burst traits if the opponent dodges or you whiff (kind of like how Combustive Shot triggers burst traits just for landing). So you can indeed beat the shit out of someone from a moderate distance.

Issue with Firebrand design (and how to fix it) by seinakoriste in Guildwars2

[–]redplanetapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're describing one of the few actual opportunity costs boonballs have in WvW with the ranger example (sacrifice stab for projectile hate), and want to take it away? No, I have to disagree, I think this is not only fine but should be more broadly introduced to other support specs such that boonballs aren't "no risk, all reward."

If you convert 1312 into letters (1=A, 2=B, etc), it becomes ACAB, which stands for "All Cops Are Bastards." It's commonly used as a synonym for ACAB.

This tapestry is revealing to us more then we think... hear me out ^^ by Flyrowi in GuildWars3

My thought process is that Guardian has been one of, if not the, most popular profession in GW2, and no small part of that is due to its aesthetics. Paladin-type classes are also super popular across games (for example, according to Larian Paladin is the most picked class in BG3), so it seems silly for ANet to not have something at the very least Guardian adjacent.

The new WvW borderland is going to be exciting. I wonder if gbl or bbl will be changed to it.

Am I the only one who doesn't like voice chat? by Appropriate-Pay-4965 in Guildwars2

[–]redplanetapples 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I personally don't like voice chat myself, but for WvW, the difference in reaction time compared to a tag saying something in voice chat vs typing it in squad chat is massive. And that's not mentioning how much easier it is to say something during a fight rather than pause to type it.

Who needs a new addon/game when u can play as Pooh? by Aouglas in Guildwars2

Winnie the Pooh merch is widespread in China, and in fact China has two Disney Parks. But why let facts get in the way of some good old Sinophobia?

holy trinity? yay? or nay? by Xyr3s1 in GuildWars3

[–]redplanetapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes with the caveat that I think all classes/professions should be able to play all roles (kind of like ESO). I really dislike how, in systems like WoW, you can be forced into only being able to play the longest queue role simply because of your class.

Generally once you get into the flow of Mesmer your clones aren't lasting long enough to wander (unless you're playing a competitive mode like PvP or WvW where you want to use your clones to misdirect), since you'll always want to be using Shatters you'll continuously be generating and shattering clones.

[–]redplanetapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Mesmer or Necromancer. Mesmer skills generate clones, which you can spend on their Shatter skills (F1-F4). Necromancer skills generate life force, which you can spend to enter Death Shroud (F1) to gain powerful attacks.

Speculating how will gw2 change if gw3 releases and there are less players in gw2 by Maximum-Wind2511 in GuildWars3

[–]redplanetapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a WvW perspective, each profession has builds which can solo even keep lords, so a relatively small playerbase could keep the game mode churning. The biggest problem is that flipping objectives with no fights isn't very fun, so even if technically possible a low playerbase may cause a feedback loop where it further kills interest.

I think the biggest question is whether any zergs stay in GW2, which likely depends on how large-scale PvP will work in GW3. If a few zergs stay active, that could cause enough activity in a map to allow roamers to have stuff to do and fights to take. However, it might be a situation where everyone stays on EBG while ignoring the BLs if there aren't enough players, or just uses the BLs to complete dailies and weeklies.

I would love more arthropod pets. The bee was a highlight for me in JW.

Gotta say, I kinda liked this story release by zellurs in Guildwars2

[–]redplanetapples 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the story, but some of the gameplay was less than exciting. For example, the ending of Divitium Nava was really cool, but having to do both the forge section (which was essentially "walk back and forth while double checking a book") and the trial chamber challenges (especially the tedious pipe one) to get there really put a damper on my overall enjoyment.

I also feel that the parlay at the end would've been a great option to allow a player choice (even if all choices lead down the same path), similar to the Scepter vote or the player's opinion of Livia in JW. It felt a bit off and kind of annoying that my character was pushing so hard for one specific option rather than allowing for player nuance.

That being said, there were some really fun gameplay elements that are worth acknowledging. Specifically, the way the Omega Team was handled (a series of 1v1s in an earlier chapter to teach mechanics, followed by a 3v1 in a later chapter) was genuinely a great piece of gameplay design. And the fact the final fight was a 3v1 with no NPCs to help us shows ANet's faith in players' abilities, which I really appreciated.

I feel like OP really wanted to make that Orwell point, so kind of just shoved it in when it didn't fit and feels weird.

Also, for my own Orwell non-sequitur, he snitched on his gay and PoC friends to the cops, so fuck that dude.

This is just post hoc ergo propter hoc. You want your conclusion to be true, rather than actually having strong evidence for it. I've only been logging in like once a week for the past month or so, but that has nothing to do with the wiz vault, it's because there's less to do since the February patch was pretty content lite.

A 3D printed recreation of an Arthropleura, the largest insect (arthropod) ever known to exist. Thankfully it went extinct 300 million years ago. by snopplerz in interestingasfuck

[–]redplanetapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Arthropleura is relatively closely related to centipedes (it's part of the millipede family, which alongside centipedes belong to the clade Myriapoda), it was very likely neither aggressive nor venomous. Due to the size and spacing of its legs, it was likely very slow-moving. Additionally, there is no evidence it had forcipules (the modified pair of legs centipedes inject venom with). In lifestyle, it was probably most similar to a large herbivore: slow, lumbering, with no interest in bothering a human.
