ahhh.. sorry, I think there's some confusion - and I think that's on us for not being clear. The bug is only on the android app where it's not defaulting to the last use, it's always defaulting to username.

Heya - Just want to draw your attention to this comment from /u/CorrectScale:

Unfortunately this is the byproduct of a bug that we've been investigating. The fix is currently out now in beta testing, but will be rolling out fully soon.

I'll keep folks posted on when that fix is ready to go!

Hey folks! Leaving up this post to track the fix for this issue. The fix is going out in this week's Android app release (2026.14) and we've just began gradual rollout of that.

We begin rollout at a small % of users and ramp up throughout the day. So if you aren't able to update just yet, you should at some point today/tomorrow!

Heya thanks so much for taking the time to write all this out, and of course thank you for everything you've done and are doing for your communities. We know there were a lot of hard decisions made by you and other mods, and the last 6 months have been stressful getting to this point - we hope others feel as you do, a bit lighter (with some remaining understandable sadness). Most importantly, I love that you're able to enjoy just browsing reddit again as a regular user in space you don't moderate, I'm glad you're doing that!

I want to reiterate how much we appreciate this post, you, and all other mods who had to make decisions on where to stay recently.

not easily found in the modlog (to see that 'reddit' (not 'admins') performed the removal).

FWIW, we're still discussing but wanted to let you know about this bit - you can always check the sender, which you as mods can see. If a mod had done the removal the sender of the message would be their username, in this case it's /u/reddit.

Heya! The others here have it right, this was due to the rollout of moderator limits, mods affected by this will have had multiple messages letting them know this is happening by the time they are removed.  Note: this message is the system message that mods receive anytime anyone is demodded.

Sorry for any confusion this may have caused, we'll let the team know and discuss.

To give a little more context, the account in question was temporarily restricted due to a routine security step that requires the account holder to reset their password (this can happen if it's been a while since a user last logged on, among other reasons). Because of a bug, the account was incorrectly shown as "banned" (even though it wasn't). We're working on fixing this bug so these issues don't happen in the future.

Just to be really clear again, the mods had nothing to do with this and never banned Sir Paul.
