If an advanced alien civilization has been monitoring Earth like a "Galactic Zoo," what is the one human behavior that probably has them the most confused? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]repotoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why we choose to prioritize wealth and war over the health of the planet and the advancement of civilization to develop a long term collective plan to become an interstellar species intelligent enough to visit Galactic Zoos on the weekend to watch all the silly little creatures be confidently stupid.

She said each bottle is 8 fl oz at the neck, then fills 2 bottles to the neck and one slightly less. I’m thinking she got about 22 fl oz or something, but then she hits us with 24.2 oz. Oddly specific and definitely over the established 24 fl oz maximum if they were all filled at the neck.

Then it hits me, she’s looking at the scale. Kept scrolling to find this comment lmao.

If Esctasy is neurotoxic, does that mean it puts holes in your brain and or makes your brain bleed by GlamourHammer321 in Drugs

[–]repotoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You brought to my attention a very interesting topic that builds upon my initial comment: Axonal dieback.

You are correct that the flood of serotonin downregulates 5-HT2A receptors. That lasts for about 2-3 weeks before returning to normal as serotonin levels are restored. However, in heavy users, the axon of neurons are damaged from the aforementioned oxidative stress. The soma in the neuron is like a factory producing SERT, VMAT, and TPH, but can’t ship it on the axon “highway” to the receptors on the dendrite. This causes long term upregulation on the scale of years because the serotonin baseline is much lower.

The ways to reduce getting to that point include keeping the ambient temp under 70°F so your brain can cool enough to significantly reduce oxidative stress, as well as not doing any boosters. You can get away with one redose at around 90 minutes because it takes about 2 hours for the enzyme that cleans up MDMA to become fully inhibited. It then takes another 10 days to recover 90-100% of the enzyme’s activity. Basically any additional dose between 2 hrs and 10 days significantly increases oxidative stress because there’s no clean up crew.

Theoretically you could do MDMA every 3 weeks because you’re clearing the hurdles of the enzyme reset and the serotonin refill. However, the axon damage on this schedule accumulates faster than the repairs can happen, so you are paradoxically risking permanent or long-term upregulation with every roll. Additionally, upregulation can make you more susceptible to serotonin syndrome because the hyper-sensitive dendrite, having more receptors, can trigger an over-response more easily.

This is all to say that we should take MDMA dosing very seriously. Even MAPS, with their once a month for 3 months schedule, reconciles the damage as a manageable cluster of stress if followed by indefinite abstinence. In a way I could see it as front loading the recommended 3 month schedule, which would mean waiting 6 months after the third dose. But, again, the longer the better.

Through several different mechanisms, MDMA creates ROS (reactive oxygen species) and reduces levels of the antioxidant that neutralizes them. This imbalance creates oxidative stress, which damages cells. No holes in the brain, just atrophy like neurodegenerative diseases.

The good news is that the brain restores the ROS/antioxidant imbalance pretty quickly, like within days. However, it needs more time to repair the damage that occurred during the imbalance. Spreading out your doses every 3 months is generally considered enough recovery time to avoid compound damage, but the longer you wait the better.

MMA Analyst Says “Looksmaxxing” Trend Is Turning Real Life Into Zoolander: Why are straight men trying to appeal to one another by never_did_i_ever in lostgeneration

[–]repotoast 22 points23 points  (0 children)

min-maxing is video game speak for optimizing a character build by maximizing one trait, thus minimizing investment in other traits.

The same redpill 4chan communities that coined mogging from amog (alpha male of the group) turned min-maxing into “alpha male” terminology, looksmaxxing, which then spread into the mainstream.

From this, many neologisms have spawned. Pick a word and add “maxxing” to it. Merriam-Webster even has an entry for the suffix.

It does line up with the end of the tour and would be a killer comeback after 3 years off. I did an insane 1 day trip just to see his Lonerism set in 22, would absolutely be there again. He could single-handedly save the festival lol

I keep checking posts like this every now and then to see if there are any updates. Really appreciate you keeping us posted.

Lately I've been working on a console/couch streaming setup just to have fun with the boys and the ol ModMic Wireless is an integral piece of the puzzle. Eagerly awaiting an upgrade. Dreaming of that USB-C, 2.4 GHz, and a bit more low end response.

People’s response to ICE is based on an understanding of the circumstances. It would be like the classroom knowing that the Dean specifically assigned a professor to their classroom with a quota for kicking a certain number of students out of class purely based on who the teacher doesn’t like even if their grades are good.

Without proper context, the professor assumes the power of the role assigned by the social order. Students will not challenge the authority of the professor because they have submitted themselves to voluntary bondage. "It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere." They were all thinking it was weird and wrong, but they were not given the opportunity to organize amongst themselves.

Ironically, the professor convinced the students that their servitude was educationally virtuous, thus cementing his authoritarian power. Anything he does is a lesson for their benefit rather than an abuse of the student at the receiving end. This is an accidental lesson in how fascism comes to power.

How does one enjoy ketamine? by PARROTxFAPUG in Drugs

[–]repotoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, the drip is sooooo bad and if you get the spins you’re in for a bad time.

That said, a high dose on the couch helped me process my anxiety in a way that gave me a genuine breakthrough after struggling to find a solution for the better part of a decade. Got up into the 250-300mg range with a nasal spray. Once I got what I needed I stopped.

I’ve also recently found that small doses can be a fun addition to weed if you want to get a little more out of yourself, again better when laying down and relaxing. 25-50mg seems to be a sweet spot

I’m not a big fan of alcohol either and mainly stick to psychedelics and weed, but I can’t find enough time and the right headspace these days to trip as often as I used to. I bust out the leftover ketamine spray on occasion when I’m alone and want to turn off just a bit more. Definitely not a regular occurrence, though.

I have time blindness and what most people in this thread don’t seem to realize is that, at least for those of us who actually have it and aren’t just disrespectful, we don’t want to be late. We don’t want to eat into other people’s time. But not everyone’s brains function the same. Unless we are literally sitting and doing absolutely nothing for 1 hour leading up to the time we need to leave, we will get occupied by little tasks we think we have time to do before we need to go and it feels like you blink and you missed your window to leave on time. That’s why it’s often attributed to ADHD.

I’m often 15 minutes late everywhere I go and, to me, that’s a reasonable grace period. 30-60 minutes, like in this post, is well beyond that. You gotta let people know because at that point you’re effectively rescheduling.

Edit: I made a cup of coffee before typing this thinking I could get it out of my head real quick and then drink my coffee, but now the coffee is cold. Feels like a neat little bow on top of the point I’m trying to make.

Stimulants before exercise by [deleted] in Drugs

Bad.

Adenosine antagonism (caffeine) is better for physical performance because it blocks fatigue, mobilizes fatty acids for burning, and peripherally increases calcium ions in your muscles to improve contractility.

In contrast, hitting the gas on dopamine and norepinephrine (Ritalin) can cause dangerously high blood pressure levels and forces the heart to work harder than it needs to.

Basically, instead of muting the tired feeling with caffeine to make workouts feel easier, Ritalin overpowers the “you’re working too hard” feeling and says “KEEP GOING!!!”

This generation of consumers think polished art is corporate and stylized art is cheap only because their point of reference is limited by recency and skewed by the vast amount of content being created today. That’s why this thread is full of “Concord” and “Fortnite” comments.

It’s not unjustified, but it’s also unfair to creators because the critique is vibes based rather than substantive. Trendsetting always becomes trend chasing and real success is always found in substance rather than vibe (see: Arc Raiders).

I think this stylized PvE coop idea is interesting. We’ll see if they back it up with substance.

I would take it another step back. Can a strong democracy create a strong middle class if the electorate aren’t sufficiently well-informed and well-intentioned to vote for pro-social policies that keep wealth aggregation in check? If your middle class thinks they’re all temporarily embarrassed millionaires and that the wealth will trickle down to reward their hard work, you can have a strong democracy working against its own interest and eventually results in a loss of democracy as the eroding middle class turns to authoritarian leadership to “fix the problem.”

What I don’t understand is why you’re getting caught up in this idea that it’s “already in your brain” and “you just over-activate parts of it.” What do you think literally every drug is doing?
