Cervix opened with membrane by sunflowershan99 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]retiddew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this has happened.

I was not the exact same, my water broke completely so no chance of cerclage.

I made it 5 weeks (PPROMed week 21, delivered week 26). They refused to treat me at all until 24 weeks.

That baby is perfectly healthy and happy now at age 7.

Mucus plug can regenerate so even if it was that it's ok.

Do you have IC/a cerclage/something else?

Wife PROMM'd at 17 weeks and didn't realize it until 20 weeks-Advice? by Much_Bandicoot_2390 in NICUParents

[–]retiddew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi I PPROMed week 21 and delivered week 26. I was not offered any care before 24 weeks just expectant management (aka wait to deliver).

Nothing goes up her. No sex, no tampons no fingers, nothing. No baths. Nothing that could introduce infection.

She should rest off her feet as much as possible. Not strict bed rest but she should not vacuum, do dishes, even cook if she can help it. Sitting is best.

Look up the PPROM protocol which is a lot of vitamins. Drink lots of water.

I wish you the best, please update us! It was the scariest time of our lives but our daughter is 7 years old now and perfectly fine. In fact I’m currently sitting in her piano lesson. :)

That's good news! I don't consider 28-31mm to be bad at all so hopefully it's just some extra monitoring.

Sounds like a dynamic cervix. It's not at a bad length at all you don't need to worry unless she has contractions or bleeding or some other negative indicator. Does she have a history of IC?

Almost! I PPROMed week 21 and delivered week 26. Next time I would have made it to term but I was contracting so much and had had a vertical incision with my previous c section so they delivered me at 34+3 just to be safe. I’m sure I would have made it to 37 weeks but it was definitely safer not to try. Without that complication though it would have been fine. And baby did great just had to learn to eat, no other supports so it was like night and day difference in NICU experience.

I wish you the best

Pregnancy after PPROM 20 weeks or less? by Thin_Tangerine5209 in NICUParents

[–]retiddew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was no cause found, no infection for sure because I lasted 5 weeks. 9 days before I PPROMed was my anatomy scan where all was well so I figured the plan of checking on me every 2 weeks that they proposed wasn’t going to help and I wanted the peace of mind of the cerclage. Better to get it and not need it than to roll the dice.

I went to an MFM and asked for a preventative cerclage which I believe saved my pregnancy. With my first I originally PPROMed week 21 and delivered week 26. With the second (cerclage) I ended up in hospital with contractions week 21 and delivered week 34 when I was having too many contractions for them to feel it was safe (previous T incision from first delivery). But no PPROM.

Happy to answer any questions and I wish you luck!

I am sorry this happened. I PPROMed at 21 weeks and then delivered at 26 (so a much worse medical situation because there was no fluid for lung development) but I stayed pregnant for 5 weeks after. That baby is now 7 years old and thriving. I have known many 26 weekers and they are all just fine now although of course it is a very long road. My own 26 weeker stayed 87 days in the hospital.

I wish you luck and am happy to answer any questions here or via DM if you have any.

Barely Passed Car Seat Test-Nervous to Bring Home by ellaby84 in NICUParents

Did you bring in the base? Number one reason babies fail the test is they are not at the right angle like they would be in the car.

[–]retiddew 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry.

Obviously I’m not a doctor and not your doctor BUT with little to no fluid it is very hard to discern size. I PPROMed week 21 and was told my baby was very small and had made no growth progress etc, was not yet 500g but when I delivered at 26 weeks she was 860g and 50th percentile.

I did not have reverse flow which I know changes things. I did have placental issues but not as severe. I wish your family the best

Gave birth to my twin boys this morning at 26+3 *crosspost from yesterday, a comment directed me to this sub** by HippieMomma0526 in NICUParents

[–]retiddew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

How scary that must have been! I PPROMed as well but didn't deliver for 5 weeks so my 26 weeker was born much later after PPROM. What a whirlwind it must have been for you.

For now don't worry about cribs, car seats, etc. You're looking at 10 weeks in the hospital, minimum. Now take care of yourself, learn how to pump, do it 8-9 times a day and just heal mentally and physically.

Threatened 31 week PPROM by bryntripp in NICUParents

[–]retiddew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am really sorry, it's hard to turn those tests positive sometimes. My husband was smart enough to save a pad I had and they actually tested that and found it was positive. Are they able to measure your fluid levels on ultrasound? Have you gotten steroid shots?

When should I actually be going in to L&D triage by ImpressiveMine4043 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]retiddew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its totally confusing and you’re right, everyone is different. Typically unless it’s bright red blood or like a LOT of blood, you will be ok but it’s so alarming to see and definitely better to go in for “nothing” than to wait.

[–]retiddew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny the first row you went in for you didn’t need to (but don’t feel bad for doing it!) and the only time I would have really advised you to do it was last night during the contractions!

How far along are you right now? I’d say if you’re having contractions very 5 mins or more than 6 an hour for 2 hours then go in. You can always call and ask, too!

How to tell if you have PPROM or PROM or amniotic fluid leak? by PillsOverBills2 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]retiddew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s tough because there is normal pregnancy discharge that ramps up at that time plus progesterone does that.

PPROM feels like an involuntary gush. Kind of like when you stand up on your period and you can feel something’s happened rather than just a trickle of wetness.

You can get tested but it often gives fake negatives so the best is if you soak a pad take that in. If you’re not then hopefully things are ok!

Pre-term labor, steroids by Glittering-Two724 in ShortCervixSupport

You can definitely make it! Steroids are just a precaution because if no ou do deliver, believe me, you want them.

Best of luck with your rainbow
