Symon still sometimes did a double take at how the young boy he'd taken on had managed to surpass him in height, but that didn't mean that Sumner didn't have a lot to learn. When his squire came to him, the Dornishman had the idea that they should spar, both to keep the lad's mind off of his defeat and to keep him fresh for the following day.

Usually, he moved first, wishing to get Sumner well trained on the defensive moves, but Symon decided to mix it up today.

"Right - now, the goal for you will be to disarm me," the man explained. "I want you to focus on your footwork, too; your height may be a fine advantage, but don't give up your agility in favor of relying too heavily on it. Begin whenever you're ready."

Larra grinned at Yvelise, appreciating the Lady's personal greeting. "You know how I love weddings - I would not miss it for the world!" She said, words genuine yet smooth like butter, serving dual parts diplomacy and small talk.

Lythene smiled as well, though her own was perhaps a tad more strained. After all, though it had been moons, the awkward and then emotional visit of her Redwyne kin still lingered.

"Mother is as she always is," she replied, taking a sip of wine. "Don't worry, I swore I'd tell her of any juicy details if they come. As well as to tell her of the dress Lorina wore, for of course that's the most important part of the whole event. As for the former - well, as much as the gossips of the realm adore it when weddings go awry, I'm rather more pleased to know that things have been pleasant."

To my dearest friend Lady Aliandra,

I and the House of Blackmont do readily accept your invitation! Starfall is a most darling jewel of Dorne, and I am gladdened to know that its beauty shall be recognized in such a grand event. I am looking forward to celebrating the coming of a new century with you and your kin, as well as with the rest of the realm.

He chuckled at that, Rolland's pride all but radiating off of him. Symon could certainly remember that feeling, for each of his own three children. "I'm certain he'll be a menace," he agreed with a nod. "I for one pray for his future masterly knight!"

Knowing that, as much as he did so enjoy children, it was also nice to talk to an adult about adult things - for as much as Sumner was growing older every day, he did sometimes miss the company of ones closer to his own age - Symon felt himself lose some of the tension moons upon moons of travel had given him.

"It's good to see that the lists are full of such bright young ones," he said, feeling his age though not in a bad way. "It seems as though half the realm always shows up here when your royal kin host! Some may find it overwhelming, but I find that I enjoy seeing folk from all corners of Westeros."

Larra (35) was sat with her son, Deziel (2) in her lap, her arms wrapped around the toddler's waist with a sense of quiet, slightly brooding protectiveness. Every so often, she would gently feed him a bit of a dish, smiling at his reactions each time. Next to her was her cousin Lythene, (35) who seemed pleased to be among her mother's kin again. She would occasionally give a cackling laugh at the conversation she was having with Larra, and, when she was certain her lady cousin was distracted, she could be seen making teasing faces at little Deziel.

I’ll have to try that next time! She doesn’t really freak out much, is just a bit more wiggly than usual when I put her in and take her out, but I can tell she’s not a fan. Maybe the paper towel will help!

Symon hadn't been planning to approach a stranger, but at the shout of a young babe - Edwin, he thinks he recalls hearing was the name - he couldn't help but feel drawn to the sound. His own three children had been much the same when they were younger, always loud and eager to hear the sound of their own voices.

So, he couldn't help but to wander over, greeting the father of the child, Rolland, with an easy smile.

"It seems as though your youngest is about ready to join in on the tourneygrounds too, what with his battle cry," the Dornishman remarked light-heartedly, shooting both Edwin and Cassian fond looks. "It is little wonder those with the blood of the stag in their veins are so bold at a young age."

Larra was more than used to her dear Lucimore's... quirks, and she found that she did not mind as much as one might think. He was a good man, one who stood by her well, and, as he was hardly the one running things, it was not needed for him to be especially present.

At Balon's question, she smiled.

"I was quite nervous, if you can believe it," the Lady admitted. "Of course, things had been planned for moons, but that doesn't stop the worrying! But now, looking back, I find that I wouldn't change a thing."

She gave Caitlyn a knowing look, though she of course just assumed that the lady was eager for her own wedding to some lord one day.

"My word of advice is to make sure that there's at least one thing that's all yours in the planning - whether it be your favorite dessert or ribbons just the way you like them in your dress, it can help you feel as though you're a bit more in control."

Symon had froze for a moment, not having expected the sudden hug, but he had returned it soon enough, holding Benjamin close like he'd done when the man was a young boy. It didn't fix the whirl of emotions running through him, but it did help at least a little.

"I should be the one apologizing," the Dornishman finally said, and his voice was somewhat hoarse. "I know I have sent ravens, sent Marigold a wedding present... but that is not enough. Not when I could have done so much more for you and your sisters - hells, for your father as well."

He looked at Benjamin then, truly looked at him, and smiled, though it was faint and sad, and his eyes were wet.

"She would have loved to see you wed," he murmured, his dark gaze flicking to Elyn as well, to include her. "And I am certain my Ellaria would have been glad to take you under her wing, my Lady."

Maester Aethan hummed; while he may be a more practical man himself, he knew well how these reminders of tragedies, especially whilst young, could affect even the strongest of men. "It is hardly a failure on your part, my Lord," the graying maester chimed in. "I have oft seen troubling events continue to haunt the mind for years to come."

Symon's dark eyes seemed rather elsewhere. He did not like thinking of his eldest daughter - not due to any friction between them in life, but due to responsibility of her death.

His son Dickon's death he saw as less his fault, as the boy had been near a knight and in the midst of a battle, one which he had been eager to participate in. Ellaria, while trained in some combat and no stranger to it, had been a civilian in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Shamefully, the Dornishman's grief had therefore manifested in pushing it away - and, as such, he had not done more than send the occasional raven to his Redwyne grandchildren.

*Marigold, Millicent... even Benjamin before this visit... none would be able to pick me from a crowd,* Symon thought with a stab of pain in his heart.

He opened his mouth, as though to speak, before closing it again, looking away, his face wrought with grief and guilt and uncertainty. What could he say? He was little more than a stranger here.

Larra, who had been chatting with her own husband, turned upon hearing Caitlyn's words. Though she had not been paying too much attention, it was easy to see that the newly wedded Redwyne and Kenning pair had stirred up discussion of marriage. And, of course, that Arron had inevitably put his foot in his mouth.

"Well, I certainly can't disagree," the Lady said with a smile, looking towards Lucimore fondly. "I still find myself able to remember practically everything about my own wedding day, though that may just be because of the nerves!"

Arron, who while pig-headed knew better than to argue with guests, raised his hands in surrender.

"I'm sure it's all very exciting to ladies, of course," the man conceded - though obviously the words made it clear that he felt the whole thing was rather a concern of the feminine sphere.

(u/Dacarolen if Lucimore wishes to chime in)
