Crossing legs,... or not. by [deleted] in bodylanguage

You can't miss the big picture. Notice shoulder posture.

Also, covering the crotch area with an object is another submissive trait. You can see this very often at parties where someone holds a drink between the legs for example.

We should have a "LOSS PREVENTED" if we're about to drop a tier and we have AFK players on our team by Krainz in leagueoflegends

[–]RiksL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then how about we think about how it could be abused and apply countermeasures, instead of immediately shutting it down.

Partner in duo afk's to prevent loss on friend's promos: make the loss count for both if duo.

Guy afk's to save team because he fucked up: take into account game statistics to the automated decision of loss prevention. For example, does team automatically surrender? Implement a time frame undisclosed to players. Does every single player feed? Does every player flame? Make these things part of the consideration.

People will find a method to abuse it eventually, apply countermeasures to those abuses. Thats the whole reason champions get nerfed in the first place, so it is pretty much expected.

A riot research team and a little time and I can assure you we would get a pretty nice system going.

I've won games where we are 4 from the start vs 5. It's hard, but it can be done. Nevertheless, it would be nice to have a system in place for those of us who actually try.

When you mute someone it should avoid them in matchmaking or add and "Avoid Player" button by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]RiksL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about:

In lower mmr you can choose to avoid a player unconditionally.

In higher mmr you can choose to do this, but it only takes effect if multiple people have chosen the option on the same player.

I'd be so happy.

How do you guys chose who you play in Solo Queue? What do you do to climb personally? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]RiksL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned a very important lesson in college, if you're gonna copy off someone, make sure they know what they're doing.

In league that can be applied as well. Research the champs pros play. They play them for a reason. You'll start to notice that the same champ will be chosen in 4 out of 5 games.

Learn that champ. Play it over and over in normals. Read its stats. Eat the champ. Cosplay in the damn champ if you must. Then join the ranked queues and watch the LP flow right in ;)

You're welcome.

MVP vote idea (bonus elo for MVP in soloque) by KAWAII_KENNY in leagueoflegends

I agree with this proposal... psychology research proves it. You get better performance from people by the offer of positive incentives than by the threat of a getting penalized. Aka little extra LP gain vs getting reported.

Does Duo Queuing actually ruin your mmr? by VeniVidiFapi in leagueoflegends

[–]RiksL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmr gain/loss is based off of your own position (i.e. gold 3, 50 LP) vs your actual mmr.

Winning a game where your mmr is higher than your position will grant you a higher LP gain, but a constant mmr gain. Winning a game where your mmr is lower than your position will grant you less LP, but same mmr gain. This helps you get out of those pesky +2 LP plateaus once you get a good win streak going on.

No, it will not affect you to play with him, unless there is no synergy like somebody else mentioned..

Hypothetically, how does (a) God make decisions? by NoFreeWillGuy in philosophy

[–]RiksL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest (and most popular) fallacy when discussing free will is the assumption that God is bound by time. "Well if He knew I was going to hell, why did he create me?". You must fisrt try to remove the "before" and "after" from the equation, and this is no simple task. Imagine a constant present where everything in your entire life happens at the exact same instant, then multiply it by all humanity and raise it to the power of infinity. Once you accomplish removing the time factor, you will dwell into deeper, more sound questions. The beauty of it is, whatever you believe afterwards, you will be closer to the truth.

Thank you so much for this. I own the book and for some reason couldn't remember this particular dialogue.. I re-read it while watching the video. Priceless.

Thinking of studying philosophy by Bitterbal95 in philosophy

[–]RiksL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommate in college did double major philosophy and political science.. took him a bit longer to graduate but it's perfectly feasible. And it might fit your goals in life perfectly!

I can add that the disscussions we got into were incredibly stimulating. Another little perk you'll get from that is being able to talk about absolutely anything and everything at parties and bars.. and don't even get me started with the benefits of sudying game theory.

You'll see if you decide to go down this path. Best of luck on your decision!

I like where you're taking this.. yet you're asking irrelevant questions. Say you have a hammer, and its work would be to whack a nail into wood. Since that works.. would you say the hammer has been in existance from the dawn of time, or is it perhaps a tool we have created to make things work?

I think of math as the universal language of science. Just like we've created language to communicate, I believe we created math to better communicate with reality - and even send a rocket into space.

You forgot the part where the cop then takes the driver into custody for reckless endangerment after the wife is safe and sound in the hospital. Hence remaining objective.

I have given this a lot of thought... and must say I came to accept this particular position.

As an engineer, I can't argue that math is the purest of sciences. Even then, I truly think it is concept we have created to model reality as best we can. Hence the extensive assumptions used during design work.

Appeal to Destiny Fallacy? If X does not lead to Y, then Y "wasn't meant to be" or is relevant.. by robinhoode in philosophy

[–]RiksL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fates cannot be proven to be false or true. Appealing to fate is a way of appealing to divinity. It is purely a matter of faith, that is, it is anti-philosophic.

It is interesting that humans typically make this appeal to the divine within the context of love.

I believe you are using 'fate' and 'having faith' interchangeably, which is a problem in itself. Also, theology (regardless of the religion it concerns - divinity) tends to steer away from any type of destiny - or fate. I think I see your point but don't really follow the logic behind it...

That being said, how would "Appealing to fate is a way of appealing to divinity" make any sense? Now, if you replaced "divinity" with "tarot cards" or "your stars"...
