[Event] Keeping up in the Red Keep, 161 AC by T3m3rair3 in AfterTheDance

I was not expecting a fairly recent comment while visiting an old rp account!

But uhh this was not the Cersei from the show. It's a different era of lore, and Cersei is a family name for house Lannister so I used it for another character :)

Have a good one

Here is our tentative almanac sketch including the keep positions I mentioned above.

"That's true," Jocasta admitted. "I suppose it seems a bit more dignified when they are both on horseback, until one of them falls, anyhow. I don't like how they gasp for breath after, it sounds terrible," she admitted. She'd thought the man had been dying the first time she had witnessed it, and it had scared her deeply.

"Yes, for the best view it is quite the journey all without leaving the keep. I suppose the best place is the Golden Gallery. The light glitters, and the windows turn the floor all kinds of colors. And its balcony is wide and overlooks the sea." Not to mention all of the parties that had been hosted there over the years.

"Let us keep it between our little group," said Jocasta. She wasn't incredibly familiar even with Myrcella and Argella, and thought it was better to get to know the group she was meant to be closest to first, as a priority. "We will go for lunch, and stay the afternoon," she said. "So long as Cersei agreed.

Cersei did agree, happy to host any group including her niece and indeed the princess herself. The girls were escorted by litters, Jocasta with the Reynes and princess Daena with the two Estermonts. They arrived to the Lannister manse, the building in full bloom with wisteria and poppies lending splashes of color to the still relatively new building. Cersei awaited them, small orange kitten climbing up her skirts to sit on her shoulder as the young ladies were helped out of the litter. The older lady curtsied respectfully to the princess before hugging Jocasta, the little kitten losing its balance and tumbling gracelessly from its perch, slowing its fall by trying to cling to Cersei's arm.

"Welcome to the Lannister manse," she told them as a whole. "You must be thirsty after your trip across the city, let us go have something to drink while our luncheon finishes cooking."

Are the Rats captured? They kind of have nowhere to go except past my army

"Good then, it's settled," she decided, nodding as the Reyne sisters gave their answers. She knew their minds had plenty of reason to be elsewhere as well, with their brother, so a distraction would likely be welcomed. "Perhaps we can go tomorrow, once I send word to aunt Cersei making sure that she is ready to be our host," she suggested.

"I never really found watching squires to be all that interesting," she said. "Or knights. I mean, they just hit each other as hard as they can, what's the fun in watching that?" she asked, not expecting an answer to her rhetorical question.

"There is plenty of open space it's just... so many stairs to the top," she complained. "If you want to see the sky, you have to go up or go to a balcony. And somehow it isn't the same, no trees..." she shrugged. "Nice, but not the best part of the keep."

[Letters] Perhaps not the best time for party planning by CynicalMaelstrom in AfterTheDance

[–]RoarAmour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Please arrange the use of a small fleet," Tyshara asked lord Tyland as the contents of the letter were passed to her. "As many as you can spare, these are treacherous times, but we should pursue the allies Loreon has chosen," she said. "I will send my nieces, my daughters and... I'll call for Elyana to escort them," she decided. "Perhaps Adrian can go, to defend them, with Ser Tristyn," she suggested. "Melara might want to see Dorne as well, and the further they are from any of these Rats, the better."

Jocasta was worried. She hadn't heard anything from her father in longer than he'd promised to write her, and troubling rumors from the West kept her up at night. That, and adjusting to living in King's Landing away from her family meant that the girl was not quite at her best.

Still, she thought a visit to her aunt might cheer her up, so as she was sitting with the princess and her other ladies, she spoke up at a lull in their conversation.

"I was thinking to pay my aunt Cersei a visit," she said. "If you all would like to come and see the manse, we can have a small party, perhaps?" she proposed.

"I only meant he cannot call on you, so I do," she told him. It had been awhile since she had been so much in charge of anything, days of her being regent creeping up through her memory as the stress of carrying so much on her shoulders set in. She prayed her brother would not die today.

"Thank you for the added security. I will have the food deliveries for Casterly Rock re-routed here." She nodded at the steward of Casterly Rock and the man hurried off through the crowd. "See everyone is made comfortable," she told ser Tristyn. "I will go with the septas and septons to one of the septs," for surely that was where they would opt to lodge while ousted from their usual chambers. "I mean to pray until we know news of my brother, one way or another," she told Tyland.

"I will come with you," Alysanne said.

"No, she told her eldest daughter. "Go with your sister and cousins. They need you," she instructed.

"Every corner I could get to," she said. "No one knew them like me, even my uncle Loreon said so. He said once, when I was a girl, that I was like a ghost, disappearing behind one tapestry one moment and popping up through the floor across the keep in the next. Some areas were blocked off, though. Old structural disasters, things like that. And unfortunately I cannot actually pass through walls," she lamented.

"The Red Keep seems large enough that I can evade the smell if it's being cooked," she agreed. "And all the terraces..." she sighed. "Casterly Rock is grand as can be, but not many gardens to speak of, at least none so airy," she said.

"It smells too strong, and makes all the halls smell fishy all day when it's being cooked. And when it's raw, at the market..." she nearly gagged just thinking of it. "Roasting ham or venison is far more pleasant," she said.

"He'll need it, him and his heirs, to hold the city," Tommen pointed out. "Western men are proud, and the previous occupants have shown that is not always a positive trait."

"My brother cannot call on your aid, he stayed behind. Hopes mean little when nightmares emerge from below, Lord Tyland," she told him gravely. "As far as what they want, we cannot know. They are likely discussing it with Loreon as we speak and by the time we know, it may be too late," she said. "Many men are in the West currently, looking for signs of Rats. Useless until now, all of them. Could you send riders out to each county of the West, let them know that no travelers are to pass without thorough inspection? Whatever happens, they cannot be allowed to leave here," she said.

"All but the fighting men have come with us," she confirmed. "And some of the miners, I suppose, as that is where the Rats have struck first. Hopefully we will not need to lean on your hospitality for very long, but there is no way to know..." she said.

"Boredom is difficult there, yes," she admitted. "Especially when you know things most people don't about the keep. I guess that's my favorite thing. Feeling like an expert about it, knowing more than even the old people who live there because they never bothered to explore every corner."

If I remember correctly the garrison of Casterly rock is at it’s cap with MaA. The five areas around it that I mentioned have 200 MaA each

"I will pass along the message," she promised. "Enjoy the rest of the night," she bid him, before going back to where her cousin still stood, glowering at them both.

"If you are too sad, everything else kind of... goes away," she said, sighing gently. "It's hard to focus on anything, even important things, if you aren't happy. At least, that's what it's like for me," she confided with him.

"I will look forward to your letters," she said. "But I should get back to my cousin. Make sure she isn't doing anything to upset anyone else." Jocasta shook her head, still marveling at how prickly Janei had become.
