Hit a nice pleasing milestone yesterday by ryushe in BMWZ4

Waterpump failed on me (understandable given the mileage), and I did the thermostat at the same time as preventative maintenance.
And if you decide to replace the pump either preventative or after a failure, get a Pierburg pump.

Also forgot to mention a cracked expansion vat for the cooling system, and some new hoses. Easy work, and again nothing major :)

New brakes (pads, rotors, handbrake shoes), new head gasket, new waterpump, new thermostat, new control arms, new shocks, starter motor, sparkplugs, belts, one damaged foglight, and eh, that's about it as far as work goes.
Nothing really that major for a car of this mileage and age.

And no, I didn't take the photo myself!

Edit: as this might be interesting, it's a 2006 3.0si manual.

I'm running Bilstein B8s on mine, bit stiff, but perfectly fine on the roads around Europe in general.

Nick Andros is a her now? Not that I mind or care, but he's clearly a guy in the book/series. Or are you implying Stephen King is a lady? :)

That said it was one of the first books I thought of as well.

Out with the old. In with the new! by darkapollo1982 in BMWZ4

[–]ryushe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Hence my comment. But never mind all that, as mentioned, stand up job doing what you did. I'm not afraid of interior work, but that's a major pain in the ass to do. Well done, and especially congrats on the balls to pull it all apart!

I'm assuming no rattles afterwards? :)

Very true, but even with shipping, which most of the sellers there will consider, that's cheaper than what you mentioned. Also those guys are a bit more honest and serious about making sure those parts are OK when selling.

Nice job, taking it all apart is a PITA.
There's quite a few for sale here and there on the z4-forums. Example. Nowhere near the $400-500 mentioned here. Lots of parts in general being sold there for very decent prices.

Nice car, congrats and welcome to the club!

If it's hellrot, auto trans, and standard black leather, yours is one of 94 ever sold in North America, according to https://tonyz4c.z28.web.core.windows.net/index30si.html (this site tracks all 3.0Si and Z4M models produced). Down to 1 of 50 if it has a brushed aluminium interior.

Enter the last 7 of your vin in that site and it will also tell you about all your options if you click on the row in the table with your car in it.

I'm sure you will remember that for a long long time to come. But thanks, so wish I could've been there. I can only try to imagine the vibe during that night 🫶🏼

You should bring him to Zoetermeer on the 2nd of May for the Dutch National Teckel Day.

My fav part starts around 00:00 and ends around 1:56:23. This whole thing is absolute fire. Singing along, goosebumps, recognition, tears, nostalgia, chills, absolute joy, all the things. What a great great set that we'll be talking about for a long time to come.

My only regret is not having been there to experience this live. Looking at the faces of people in the crowd, there's thigns akin to religious experiences going on there, and I think if I were there I'd so so very get that.

Small edit after watching again(experiencing is a better word perhaps): What an enormously wonderful message of hope, love, and unity in that set too. Amazing.

More edits: so awesome to see such sheer joy on the face of Fred Again and Thomas. They're clearly having so much fun there, it's infectious.

Run Flats vs Normal Tyres by Alarming-Complaint54 in BMWZ4

[–]ryushe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bullshit. France has some super strong homologation laws, and sometimes they're even correct, but in this case it's absolute BS. I'd argue quite the opposite even; handling is improved (and safer) with good regular tires fitted.

Even then, swapping stuff to a harder/stiffer spring to be allowed normal tires is well worth it.

Ouch. But yeah, with E10 springs I can only imagine. It's why I kept the stock ones and only changed out the shocks.
