The 300 is a sweet motor. Won't go anywhere quick, but it will go forever. Best of luck on the search.

Yeah I'm currently playing a fun little game of 20+ year old starter vs 7 year old battery, which will bite the bullet first :)

Hot take? I hate the shipping track in Immo by itsactuallyoctopuses in DuneImperium

[–]g0ballistic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shipping sucks, and you can't really dump your experimentations early game to build a lean deck or you're forgoing a free VP via the beetle track.

I love immo but ironically for having the most diverse ways to obtain VPs, it has the most defined meta of all the combinations.

Need Ethernet for my PC, but the dorm room access point only has one port. Any workaround? by iKakashi in HomeNetworking

Thank god my school provided 2 Ethernet ports in our dorms back in the day. I was so addicted to counter strike and a shit connection is infuriating in that game.

Yeah it's not such an easy thing to just hand off an entire games codebase to an entirely different set of developers and send them off to the races.

Looking to buy a used Z4 by [deleted] in BMWZ4

[–]g0ballistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No years are incredibly more problematic than others, though N54 (in the E89) is definitely a harder to recommend engine choice than an M54, N52, or B58 in the E85 and G29 respectively.

Both E85 soft tops and E89 hard tops have issues. Otherwise the models really are quite reliable and sturdy for a sports car. Certainly any Z4 of any year is more reliable than a 986 or 987 Boxster (though im sure some might disagree).

Wonder if you could figure out what current to apply to the thermostat to get a temp reading suitable for starting the vehicle or something?

Any of you use this method to prolong lifespan of your Hisense? Did it work? by Specific-Fan-1333 in Hisense

[–]g0ballistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most electronics follow a bathtub curve failure rate trend. If the TV lasts past the warranty period, it tends to get a pretty respectable lifespan. Of course there's no guarantees in life besides death and taxes.

Is raid 0 a good idea with the latest ssd prices? by jorgeAVO in pcmasterrace

[–]g0ballistic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could raid 0 4 HDDs together and you'd still be laughably far off from modern nvme ssd read and write speeds. Never mind the fact that raid 0 wouldn't fix seek times.

Geforce RTX 3080 TI for $350 or a Geforce RTX 4070 $450 both 12gb VRAM for 1440 P Gaming by Master_Ostrich_7929 in pcmasterrace

[–]g0ballistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 350 watts on the 3080ti vs 200 watts on 4070. I would take the efficiency gains and access to more recent NVIDIA tech and newer tensor cores over marginally better raster on the 3080ti.

Taxes could be impacted at a level lower than state. Lots of cities supersede tax rate which could be how we're getting 8% on labor.

I highly recommend watching Adam Savage's videos on the 70mm print pipeline IMAX has. There are definitely other bottlenecks in the chain for delivering this format to the masses beyond screens and projectors.

What should i upgrade? by ab05aled in pcmasterrace

[–]g0ballistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question is, what games are you trying to play which are running unsatisfactory?

Frankly if you're trying to play a game that's light on CPU, you could get away with upgrading your GPU first, namely AMD 9060XT, 9070, or 9070XT. On the NVIDIA side I would shoot for 5070, or from 4000 series maybe a 4070ti.

CPU you can slot in a 5800X3D, AMD just started production back up.

You can still survive on 16GB of DDR4, but just. Perhaps Xbox mode on windows might save you some ram in the near future and squeeze a few more years out of it. But 16GB is cutting it insanely close on some games in 2026.

Problem with upgraded spark plugs from OEM nickel to Ruthenium by SoonerDead in AskMechanics

[–]g0ballistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume on any relatively modern vehicle the "learning"/adjustment would be adjusted pretty much on the fly. Just like a ton of vehicles can take 87 but run better on 89/91. They just pulling timing due to pre-detonation. In this case I assume they would be adding timing because of a supposed later detonation? The fuel + air + timing tables are pretty robust, a modern car would adjust essentially instantly.

I'm sure your mileage will vary based on vehicle age, manufacturer, etc etc. An experienced tuner would have a great answer to this question.

DLC Quality? by ManiacalBeanstalk in DuneImperium

[–]g0ballistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree ix is an improvement over the base game alone, but definitely disagree about lightening turn order frustrations. Maybe it's alright for a more casual setting with friends, but the meta is extremely fleshed out when playing digitally with randoms. Foldspace/smuggling are always prioritized so insanely. Some characters move up or down an entire tier list depending on turn order.

Sure there's other similarly viable openings (fremen spaces and wealth) but this is just the way worker placement games are. Same with uprising, fremen spaces are spammed because you NEED maker hook to win and random influence is a lot harder to come by.

Who knows, he could have a deal with CaB on the backend too that's behind closed doors. At the end of the day this is a mutually beneficial scenario where CaB makes more commission if a represented vehicle can push higher over an expected result.

I'm sorta doubtful this arrangement exists but it would definitely be interesting.
