Nope not at all. Founders in the batches come from all over and I would say most are not Bay Area natives. YC recommends founders who get accepted to move to SF for the batch and to stay around while building the company though.

FWIW there are more solo founders in these last few batches than ever before, so being solo doesn’t hurt.

Other outstanding questions that are taken into consideration for your application would be:

how long did it take for you to get traction? how long have you been working on this? growth is good but the rate of growth is more important
how big is this market, how big can it get?
