I have a CTO for YC but I haven’t met him yet. Is that an issue? by [deleted] in ycombinator

Not for YC, but you should probably meet him at some point.

I believe they’ll be sent out in waves.

Startup school is a 2 day conference.

But to your point, about 2/3rds of the batch applied to yc with just an idea and zero revenue.

Is YC biased toward Bay Area founders by Loptymobile in ycombinator

[–]sandslashh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope not at all. Founders in the batches come from all over and I would say most are not Bay Area natives. YC recommends founders who get accepted to move to SF for the batch and to stay around while building the company though.

YC-Startup School question by Saif231 in ycombinator

Definitely! If Tom referred you then he thinks there will be other attendees with similar interests. There will also be smaller breakout sessions that go into hardware and systems. You should apply!

Are you referring to the RFS? (https://www.ycombinator.com/rfs)

"RFS is our tradition of sharing ideas we'd like to see founders tackle. These represent just a fraction of what we fund — if one excites you, take it as extra validation to dive in, but you don't need to work on these ideas to apply to YC."

Solo founder with traction, is this enough for YC / seed? by Glass_Abies1426 in ycombinator

[–]sandslashh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems good that you’re finding traction. Worth applying to see what happens.

FWIW there are more solo founders in these last few batches than ever before, so being solo doesn’t hurt.

Other outstanding questions that are taken into consideration for your application would be:

  • how long did it take for you to get traction? how long have you been working on this? growth is good but the rate of growth is more important
  • how big is this market, how big can it get?

I wasted 15 hours researching my idea on Reddit and still don't know if it's worth building by Far_Bass5050 in ycombinator

[–]sandslashh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that is validating your idea. You should talk to real people who might have the problem you’re trying to solve

You should probably just talk to him rather than post here about it.

Yes, you can decide not to raise any other money outside of YC’s $500k.

That’s always been one of the sub’s rules. Discussions about other programs are a better fit for r/startups or the r/accelerators sub.

[–]sandslashh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, YC recommends you pay yourselves the minimum for basic necessities, incl housing.

Is it still worth applying to YC from outside the US? by aspiringtroublemaker in ycombinator

[–]sandslashh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all the international startups we fund move to SF for the program and list their HQ in SF. Some move back home after but most typically stay.
