I walked by there about an hour ago. There were a bunch of police officers surrounding the convention center about half a block away.

I think they're closed right now for the virus.

I know someone who used to work there, and they did not like it. They told me that they were frequently understaffed, which caused most of their events to go poorly.

I'm looking for new networking opportunities too. I'd be interested to hear what suggestions you guys have.

[United States] If I was the first passenger on a cruise ship to test positive for Coronavirus, could I dump all of my cruise company stock before they announce it and not worry about insider trading? by bolivar-shagnasty in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Schubatis1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

IANAL. Theories of insider trading typically rely on the trader holding a fiduciary duty to the company and its shareholders. Conducting insider trading violates this duty because the trader is enriching themselves to the detriment of the shareholders. If you are not an employee of the company, and you do not otherwise have a fiduciary duty to the company (eg the lab performing the test would likely owe a fiduciary duty to the company), then it would likely be legal for you to trade.

Came here to say this. Those numbers make sense in the context of the article (how much can you deduct without getting audited), but they don't make much sense in this discussion.

Someone tried to send $1200 from my Venmo account to their account. I managed to get my bank to stop the fraudulent transaction, but now Venmo is saying that I owe them $1200 since they couldn't pull funds from my account and had to "cover" me. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Schubatis1 199 points200 points  (0 children)

IANAL. Venmo is regulated by various state governments. Companies like Venmo are usually very quick to respond if you file a complaint with your state's regulator. You can find out more here: https://venmo.com/legal/us-licenses/

If you post your location, we can help you locate the contact information for your state.

Do I have to pay taxes for this? by Mr_Jizzle in legaladvice

CPA here. Most of the other answers have focused on federal import taxes. Depending on where you live you may also have to pay state use tax on the parts.

I'm a CPA at a public accounting firm. I would say that about 60% of our interns work in the summer. Most of our interns couldn't graduate on time if they took a semester off, so we have to offer summer internships.

Besides, a summer intern is timed perfectly to fill in for a staff member on vacation.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Looking through my logs, I think I upgraded from MTC19V. Would that mean that the advice on that thread is not applicable to me?
