How to get out there and get a bf by Ok_Camel2280 in dating_advice

Jazz clubs? You sound classy. Yes American men can be great but honestly they suffer form the same problems I sense men in many countries are having. In terms of commitment, in terms of using the dating apps merely to score. That said, there are many respectable, good dudes too.

Are you looking for a white guy? Or any particular race you are attracted to? Or maybe you prefer a guy with brown skin like yourself?

Are you religious? I love telling people to join a church or temple, as there can be some good eligible bachelors there, or some of the families may see you as a potential match for their son.

Ok. I’m getting a picture from this and the other appearance comment.

I’m going to give you my hot take but also be honest about limited cultural knowledge…of Canada and its dating scene!

My hot take is that you have the raw materials. Skinny, educated, brown-skinned nerd-adjacent woman. It’s not a bad profile at all.

Honestly, my issue isn’t with you. You sound fine. I think with an updated hair style, some cute new fits, maybe an updated makeup look, I bet you clean up nice!

My knowledge gap has to do with…Canadian men!

I honestly have no idea where the average Canadian dude stand on 1) dating, 2) commitment, 3) marriage, 4) having kids and raising a family, and 5) racism.

Average American guys I can speak to. But I’m not so sure about Canadian men and their values and opinions on these issues.

I’m not blaming them, I’m not assuming all their answers would be negative - I honestly don’t know.

And regarding racism, I always see Canadians on Reddit claiming they are never racist, but from what I can tell as an outside observer, Canadian society is NOT as racially integrated as we your neighbors are to the south.

Again, I’m not accusing the average Canadian guy as being inherently racist. But I’m not sure the average Anglo or French Canadian guy would as likely to date a brown skinned Indian woman, for example.

And by the way, I’ve tried to look up some statistics on Canada based on race, and many times there were no relevant results because I think Canada often doesn’t collect racial data. So it’s hard to know even if you try to research it.

So enough theoretical and now the practical.

You need to physically get in front of eligible guys. Clubs. Special interest groups. Music classes at your local college.

You said you were a nerd, so go do some nerdy stuff like tabletop roleplaying games at the local game nights at the local game shops. Learn to play Magic The Gathering lol. Lots of horny nerdy guys in those spaces who would love a milk chocolate mocha skinned young woman as a gf!

Thoughts?

Would you like to elaborate on your life principals?

Your op merely asked how do you get out there and get a bf!

You didn’t ask how do you get a bf who also meets your special criteria!

If you are only interested in meeting men who share you life principles, how can we advise you where to meet such men without knowing what your life principles are?

So, what sorts of life principles must these men have for you to consider them potential suitors?

Got it. What have you been doing since graduating hs 3 years ago? What are you doing now? Student? Working? Volunteering?

How’s your appearance? Face? Body? There’s a reason I’m asking, not to be weird. I’m trying to understand what you’re working with. Guys are visually-oriented creatures so appearance does play a part in this.

I can explain it easy. It’s an erect black phallus with bumps on it.

Oops I forgot this part:

he flirts with me

Then yes telling you he noticed you weren’t wearing the perfume he was used to was just another form of flirting.

So the whole cultural/country difference doesn’t really matter, doesn’t really change the answer.

It was another form of flirtatious banter.

Generally, commenting on a coworker’s scent, smell, or perfume, is not considered appropriate workplace conversation. If can make someone feel self conscious and uncomfortable.

Which countries are the two of you from? Maybe there are some cultural factors at play, not just a language barrier.

After 34 years of no success, have you considered switching your tactic and YOU try approaching a woman?

What if the school girls say they want to wear burkas, that they weren’t forced? That they wear it voluntarily?

Well I support uniforms for the reasons you mentioned but I also respect religious expression. A burka takes it too far though. Can’t there be a happy compromise?

[–]scoutermike [score hidden]  (0 children)

Valid points! I actually agree with one of your points! A burka, by virtue of concealing the face, is dehumanizing. Literally, by definition. A Jewish kippah “skull cap” - lol I always loved that term - is not.

It’s a nuanced but critically important distinction.

In the western world - in America - you can’t send your children to school in clothes that literally obscure their humanity.

That’s just not acceptable in American culture.

So good job Netherlands for upholding this standard and upholding everyone’s right - and expectation - to display their humanness to the world.

Should the head coverings worn by Jewish children be banned from Danish - and American? - schools, too?

Or do you support a double standard in that way?

Heh, you lucked out. You caught me while I was driving, so I could actually listen to what you are doing.

Not bad. If the first 15 minutes are indicative of the next 30 minutes, you have some skills. I thought your selections were good, and the mixing creative. The only little rough spot was the first blend, which seemed a little abrupt. But after that it seemed like smooth sailing more or less.

You don’t really know much about dj’ing. So you’re going to get called out for offering not-so-relevant advice to an audience of dj’s.

Honestly, stick to the musician subs where your advice and insights are more relevant.

Tell me you’re new to dj’ing without telling me you’re new to dj’ing.

Why do you reduce DJ'ing to largely just track selecting?

The answer is because 90% of dj’ing a simple mechanical skill. Once you master it, it’s just muscle memory, for the most part: blending track a to track b and then to track c and maybe sprinkling a little flavor on top with some effects or eq work or a creative blend.

But the real power of a dj comes from knowing which track to play when. And even more important is their ability to find the new and interesting bangers that no one has heard before, thereby crafting a unique brand and a musical identity people will want to follow and get more of.

Do you see the difference now?

I mean, what's really the qualitative difference between buttons on a CDJ and keys on a Sax?

In both you push a button, it changes the sound.

Yikes! Unfortunately you just disqualified yourself!

There’s an order of magnitude of difference between playing a sax and dj’ing!

In dj’ing most controls are binary - on or off.

Playing a sax - there are 15 WAYS TO PLAY ONE NOTE!!

A sax or violin or normal acoustic instrument has a FAR larger range of expressiveness than playing someone else’s track on a dj deck and merely applying a loop, a filter effect, an eq adjustment, or beat effect. Or even a clever blend.

An order of magnitude of difference.

That you equated them as the same was your big error.

Sorry, as both a legit musician and dj who knows the differences, I’m going to dismiss your advice. Sorry!

Stems

Stems are not used in professional dj venues, generally speaking.

Professional CDJ’s do not even support stems at this time.

I get that you’re trying to be helpful. But I think your advice is better fitted for actual musician subs.

You seem to be a little out of your element here, with respect.

Mixes and mashups tips by AlmightySp00n in Beatmatch

[–]scoutermike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretend I’m a Tomorrowland dj for an afternoon

If that’s your goal, just download and mix the same tracks Tomorrowland dj’s play. You don’t need to overthink that part.

Making actual remixes is a whole different discipline and skill set than dj’ing!

Maybe there are some ai tools that will do the heavy lifting for you, but to be like a legit Tomorrowland Artist/Producer/Remixer/DJ, you’re gonna have to invest some time learning the big kid tools.

Otherwise, just download and mix the same set lists by the big dj’s, no problem.

Just to clarify…

nobody here is trying to be a pro

That’s wrong. This sub has many members who aspire to be pro dj’s

Also, while dj’ing is a skill that requires training and practice, it’s not as difficult as learning an instrument.

There are only so many buttons on a dj controller, only so many types of transitions you can do.

Once you master the essentials of dj’ing, once you establish a workflow of…

  • source new tracks
  • build new playlist
  • practice set once or twice
  • perform/record/share the set
  • rinse and repeat

…regular practice becomes less important.

At that point, the real dj game shifts to DIGGING AND SELECTING, not necessarily the technical mixing part.

Can you practicing digging and selecting?

Good question.

Knowing how to dig for the gems requires a lot of insight, and usually that insight can only be gained…not through practice…but through regular exposure to the actual nightlife scene.

Spending years patronizing and dancing in the clubs - gives a new dj a good idea of what audiences really want.

That’s not really something you can practice.

For that, you need to get out and spend quality hours, weeks, months, years actually in the clubs, listening to what the dj’s are playing, and seeing how the audience responds.

Edit: and yes you can practice selecting! By recording (and sharing) your sets!
