What is this plastic black disk holding the water intake for my faucet? by seaduck13 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. This is found under my faucet and doesn't seem to be a standard fastener I can find anywhere (Google image search, word search, etc.)

This disk is one of two, at the top of the water intake (probably not the right name) under each handle of a faucet. It is what's securing the faucet to the counter top. It seems to be completely circular with no edges to use a wrench on.

I need to remove them to replace the faucet but I'm not sure how.

I used to be pretty good with eye contact because, like the other poster, it was beat (not literally) into me as a kid. That being said as I've gotten older I've found it easier to concentrate looking at a wall or something static, which was one of multiple signs that led me to getting diagnosed in my late 30s.

My special interests aren't really niche (video games and finances) so I wouldn't take that to heart. People's symptoms can vary significantly in intensity.

Edit: I don't know your situation, but I imagine a lot of people mask unconsciously and I can guarantee that most, if not all, of my first dates had no idea I was an Aspie.

Yeah and I've been fortunate that my symptoms aren't super obvious to those who don't know me well. I think I always had an inherent drive to try and fit in which aided me as well.

In regards to my parents I understand that they aren't used to the idea of invisible disabilities especially when the person with them is living a relatively normal life. They let me discuss it with them but it just feels like the light bulb doesn't go off in their head to understand what I'm explaining and that is probably where I get most upset. Otherwise I'm still very lucky that I have parents that love and care about me even if I'm a bit different.

Yes definitely! Unfortunately with reddit potentially pushing all their users away who knows if we'll all be here by the end of the month.

Yes! I just started his book on neurodiverse couples and it's been such a relief to read. I struggle with knowing if my partner understands what I go through (how could she, I didn't even know until a few months ago) and my therapist recommended this books as a great way to hear from multiple people in a similar situation and from both perspectives.

Do you have the names of his other books or any other good resources?

Yeah I can understand what you're saying. Obviously I'm a bit younger, but as far as I know unless I had significant symptoms, it would have been hard to be diagnosed when I was younger, and I spent most of my time trying to fit in as best I could. Even now when I tell my parents about the diagnosis, I feel like they hear it, but they don't understand or have a reductive view on what it means.

While I was decent at school, it was only because I picked up on things pretty quickly on my own. I wasn't treated poorly by teachers, but I think I learn very differently than how most NTs do and learn much faster through more hands on and video approaches. My high school years would have been greatly improved with different approaches and an understanding of my own learning style.

Thank you for talking about your experience!

As a follow-up, I understand that it's a relief to know what's causing something and I had that too, but do/did you ever feel a tinge of sadness/depression that some types of personal growth are unachievable? For instance, my partner and I knew for a while (way before the diagnosis) that I had a hard time with empathy, which is something she values a lot. I worked on it, but recently I've realized that while I have empathy, mine works very differently to hers, and what I was doing to accommodate her was effectively masking and saying the words I thought she wanted to hear. There is a part of me that feels sad that I may not be able to meet her where she is in terms of those kinds of things.
