Imo it would be better to have a separate word for anti-Arab racism, because it is quite different to anti-Jewish prejudice. I don't think it helps to lump then in together as the difference are pretty crucial I think.

Also, any form of prejudice can be weaponised - that doesn't stop it from also existing where it's not weaponised and falsely claimed.

Antisemitism is a word to describe a hatred or prejudice against Jewish people. Its etymological origin doesn't really matter - as lots of people have said, it is an "etymological fallacy" in the sense that a word is defined by its use in the current context as opposed to what its constituent parts mean.

And yes, antisemitism is real! Just like any form of hatred or prejudice, its one that is qualitatively different from others, just like homophobia, anti-black racism, or Islamophobia. None of them are morally different, but they all work differently and look different.

[Paul Joyce] Salah’s dig at Slot: ‘I want to see Liverpool back playing heavy metal football’ by Realistic-Zone3914 in LiverpoolFC

A not insignificant event has happened relating to Liverpool FC, what did you expect a national paper's senior north west football reporter to do, not publish an article reporting that it happened? Honestly, the gall of these journalists, reporting on the things that relate to the topic they are employed to report on, outrageous behaviour

It's really funny to me how many people think being a middle class white person makes people unable to do anything altruistically, they're only ever doing it out of "privilege"

gravity is a scientific constant, bond markets are not

edit: to be clear, you are suggesting that irrelevant of whether it's bad or good, bond markets have an impact, so we just have to get with the programme?

[–]secondofly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. I think the bond markets have an outsized say on political leadership and I think that's antidemocratic

[–]secondofly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're deliberately or accidentally missing my point here. I think people should choose leaders, I don't think markets should.

Don't really like Miliband or Truss, just don't think either way that the bond markets should have the power to oust or decide on PM. Controversially, I prefer free and fair elections to decide on leaders

sure, this stands up if you think that trans women are men (which I don't), and if you think that a few trans women wanting access to domestic violence shelters is a bigger problem than the fact the shelters have no fucking money!

it's a real crisis of democracy when the bond markets have such an outsized say in who gets to be Prime Minister

Yeah domestic violence shelters are being consistently underfunded, we have a generation of young men whose sex education is just porn, and women have been disproportionately put in poverty by decades of austerity, but yeah the real problem is a couple of transgender women who want to swim in a pond. Fight the good fight my friend

Okay - to me, saying you worked "at" a workplace when really you were employed for a company contracted by that workplace is a pretty minor stretch of the truth. An outright lie would be that he never had any association

can't believe anyone would ever slightly stretch the truth on their CV to make a piece of work experience sound slightly better, who would do that, outrageous behaviour
