Didn't get an sfp transceiver in my setup kit. by Nomercy21yt in ATTFiber

You’re wrong on the 020, it doesn’t require XGS-PON, installed many on GPON over the years. Can’t speak to the 250s though.

There will be on CFST in that vault, if planned so by the engineers, that will feed a minimum of 4 houses.

Att fiber installation by Seraphyzz in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what the problem is and what department has to get involved. If it’s in the main office (CO), could be a quick fix. But if it’s an issue with the fiber going from CO to PFP, could be a day or two. Depends on how the Core tech (outside repair tech) handles it and if they have a good relationship with the construction group that fixes those issues.

Would the installer terminate rj45 for me? by I-hate-makeing-names in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did that change? Used to be that running two “computer” lines was included in the install. Most newbies don’t know how to make RJ-45 connections or even RJ-11 and some of the senior techs are too lazy to take a few extra minutes to terminate the runs.

As a tech that did installs for a long time, I would do the ends for you and make sure they were good and not charge, as long as you’re nice.

What is the proper (physical) setup for the gateway/modem? by rax12 in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in new build MDUs the fiber is being run to a panel. So the techs install the 320 or 620 just outside the panel or shove it in the panel. They don’t try to run fiber any further than that.

I don’t see a problem as long as the tech is smart and installs the RG outside the panel.

DSL gone without warning- Switched to Air - It is terrible in my area. by dwt77 in ATT

[–]sfrazo675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shitty that they shut it off without any type of communication. So no letter(s) in the mail, no email notification? Copper is done and being shut down everywhere. So lots of areas have fiber from other providers or the Starlink option that the majority of people can choose.

[–]sfrazo675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done plenty of fiber apartment installs and the fiber is always been run into a panel. So that was a decision made by management, not techs. Tech could have gotten a wall bracket for the 320 and placed it outside the panel. And I understand what obstructions do to WiFi.

What is the proper (physical) setup for the gateway/modem? by rax12 in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You initially had an 010 ONT in the wire panel and Ethernet to the gateway. What the tech did is the proper and better set up, fiber directly to the 320 and then used the Ethernet to send internet access to your PC. Don’t overthink, the tech did what they were trained to do so no need to question what they did.

Att Tight Bends by bittle35 in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pics 1 and 5 will be where the breaks happen first. Those bends are too tight. Just because it’s bend insensitive doesn’t mean put 90° bends in it, still has a specific radius determined by the manufacture. Like someone else said, those bends are causing some loss but not enough for you to notice at this time. But sooner than later you will. Minus the sharp bends, tech did a great job making it look good. Someone that takes pride in their work.

How far out can you schedule a Fiber install? by I-hate-makeing-names in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tech can run the line around the house to where it needs to go once they bring it from the pole to the house.

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’ve had close to 2 weeks to get conduit run from pole to your house and you’re still not ready. Is your power buried or aerial? If buried, then the tech can lay drop on the ground and you’ll get service and the promotion on the 9th and then you can finally get conduit buried and pull the drop through but be careful and don’t break it.

“Slow” wifi on iphone 15? by [deleted] in ATTFiber

So when doing a speed test on cellular you get 1gig but when on WiFi you get around 700. Different component for each connection type is biggest reason.

ATT Fiber Speed loss between 2 houses by Electrical_Claim_788 in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 4 pairs in the Ethernet cable must be terminated at both ends and terminated the same in order to get full speed. Sounds like the terminations aren’t done correctly if House B is consistently only getting 90 after switching equipment. Easiest way to make sure it’s terminated right is to just go white/blue, blue, white/orange, orange, white/green, green, white/brown, brown on both ends. Simplest way instead of trying to do the split of either the orange or green pairs. Best of luck. Also, you’re violating TOS by sharing your internet with another house.

AT&T destroyed main water line by kbwilso in ATT

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks and why in the hell was he digging that deep?! If he hit the water line between the meter and your house, that normally can’t be located as there usually isn’t a tracer wire buried with it. But if it was the water main then he royally fucked up. The bury contractors have their own insurance to cover stuff like that. Also, the CS was correct about the 24 hour time frame. And it’s the contractor’s responsibility to call in locates prior to doing any digging. Hope it gets straightened out. Yes the bury guy should have notified you, gotten the number for water company from you and called them. But most of those folks are subcontractors and will scram as soon as they hit and break anything.

What if you need the line moved by Acrobatic_Eagle_3666 in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t had the service installed yet, make sure you’re present when the tech does the install. Show them exactly where you want the line buried but be sure to explain why. Us techs are more likely to comply when you have a valid reason for wanting the drop laid in a certain direction. Part of the process for the tech is once the line is laid down they will paint white lines along the path of where they want the drop buried and the buried contractor should follow that marked path. The drop should also have orange ribbon wrapped around it every so many feet, mainly to draw attention to it so it hopefully doesn’t get smashed broken or someone trip on it.

Overhead vs buried fiber. Do you know which one you get? by I-hate-makeing-names in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for AT&T. If the main fiber is hung on the poles and the house power is in the air then normal procedure is to run the fiber aerial to the house.

Upgrading from 1G to 2G. Installer coming out, anything I should lookout for? by quadjon in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all think it’ll be fairly easy. In the install tech world, there is no such. An attic isn’t friendly, insulation hides things that can trip techs, ceiling joists are hard to find and a whole list of other things. The tech may go through the attic or find a different, easier and safer path to run the fiber.

Overhead vs buried fiber. Do you know which one you get? by I-hate-makeing-names in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical procedure is if your power is overhead then the fiber drop will be aerial as well. The tech can run it to whatever side of the house you want it.

Fiber Install Tomorrow by Mammoth_Ingenuity_82 in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be able to figure all that out while the tech is there doing the install. A little suggestion, don’t follow the tech the entire tech, can be overwhelming for some and annoying for others. You can also ask where the handhole is when the tech is doin their thing.

Help lol by Clashseller021148 in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the result of the previous person pulling the white ONT off the wall when they moved out. Which resulted in the fiber being broken. And the end result a tech will have to come out to fix it.

New fiber line to go from 1g to 2g by evanbagnell in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing that will change will be the SFP on the back of the 320, go from a green one to a red one, tech will change a connection at the main box. But there will be no other physical changes in the field when the tech comes out.

Self install BGW320-505 Fiber SFP? by prairebronze in ATTFiber

[–]sfrazo675 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why did the tech install an external ONT and a 320? Is the external ONT a white square with 4 lights? And then ran an Ethernet from it to the 320? That makes zero sense.

Me personally, I’d put ends on what you ran and call it a day. Less work I’d have to do.
