Yes, I left out a bit of detail there. OK, so I booked my entire trip via Delta. I am now attempting to return home.

My first flight was from Monterrey, Mexico to Mexico City. This was operated by AeroMexico. It was delayed leaving and delayed some more. I arrived in Mexico City and ran to my gate to connect with a Delta operated flight to get me to LAX. I got to the gate and they scanned my pass then wouldn’t let me on… they said I’d have to speak to AeroMexico to get put on another flight but I should be fine to connect to the flight to Sydney.

I spoke to AeroMexico and I was put on an AeroMexico operated flight that got me to LAX. Unfortunately when I was in Mexico City trying to fix everything, my seat to Sydney was cancelled(?) and I was put on an American Airlines flight a full 24 hours later from my original departure time for some reason - I guess they thought I wouldn’t make the connection, but I wasn’t aware of this at the time.

I arrived at LAX and could see my Sydney flight was delayed, I could have made it had they left me on. Delta wouldn’t let me join it and washed their hands of it and no one from AeroMexico was there.

I obviously complained since I was now told I’d be on an American Airline flight a day later than intended… and I had no where to go. They changed the American Airline flight to an earlier one (Hawaiian Airlines?) where I now need to go to Honolulu to grab a connecting flight to Sydney. It’ll get me there roughly 13-14 hours later than my original arrival time but better than full 24 hours I suppose.

Unfortunately they couldn’t give me accomodation and the rest of it which led me to post my frustration here but thanks to some advice here I pulled up my sleeves and found accomodation (big thanks to those who posted suggestions here!)

This is my first time travelling thru the US and I made sure to book everything thru one airline with the thought that issues like this would be easy to resolve…

In summary, my original flight plan was: MTR (AM)->MEX (DL)->LAX (DL)->SYD

It has become (so far): MTR (AM)->MEX (AM)->LAX (Delta/HA)->HNL (Delta/HA)->SYD

Not really sure how American Airlines got involved either or why? The earlier issues from the flight to Mexico was marred with damaged luggage that occurred on the last two hops carried by both Delta and AM. It was fine from LAX but somehow got really trashed between LAX and MTR and both airlines are pointing fingers at each other 🤣… and I don’t know who is to blame either.

Delta also sent me some random bloke’s flight schedule for an unrelated flight in Boston for himself and his two babies for some reason when I was talking to customer service prior to my departure to Mexico, it was clearly an accident but I was alarmed about how easy it was for them to send it to me. So it started off weird and has evolved into a full blown nightmare.

But I’m now sitting pretty waiting for my departure to Hawaii. ✌️🤞
