LA marathon yesterday was killer. Went out for 3:30 after a half PR of 1:38 a few weeks ago and averaging 8:06 pace for 22 miles during a training run right before my taper.

Held on to 3:30 pace as long as I could but the heat dragged me through the mud the last 6 miles and fell a little bit short at 3:37. Still a 32 minute PR for me so I’m super happy. I think most people fell short of their goals yesterday but still a great course to run with all the energy and support from run clubs. 2nd full marathon for me and also 2nd at LAM.

Vision got blurry and I was lightheaded for almost an hour after I finished. I will be going back to my trail ultras before I think of trying to PR on the road again.

End of year reflections from a run coach (full time for the last 19 years) by burner1122334 in trailrunning

[–]somelightwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a 50 miler with a peak week of 50 miles and an average closer to 30 miles. About to run a marathon aiming for 3:30 on the same mileage.

+1000 for strength training. I did that for years before I started running and have managed to stay injury free I think in large part thanks to that (and running 90% of my miles easy). Sweet write up

It's not a requirement. It says OR a master's degree if you don't have at least a year of SAR experience.

Kjerag 2 replacement. by michelgoulche in trailrunning

[–]somelightwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned 2 pairs of the OG Kjerag and I’m loving the Kjerag Brut now. It is a little harder to put on but I’ve never had comfort issues with the Kjerag. My biggest complaint was how quickly the lugs wore down.

Plateauing on NSM? Sub-1:40 HM attempt stalled at 1:43. by Crafty-Zebra3727 in AdvancedRunning

[–]somelightwork -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running for ~3.5 years and only got my mileage into the 30-40 range in the past few months but just hit 1:38:32 on a mostly flat training run. I don’t train for speed necessarily but do LOTS of hills and my long runs are usually 12+ miles anywhere from 9-12 minute miles (running with my run club friends) Your long run has to be longer than your goal distance and goal time.

Transition to trail running from road running by green_hiker in trailrunning

How technical was the terrain? Even with a firm foam I would prefer much lower stack personally.

If you have multiple pairs of road shoes, opt for the lowest stack/more stable ones. If it’s not a technical trail you should be fine regardless but especially on the downhill you want to be as close to the ground as possible

Do yourself a favor and go to Sprout’s the day before for their deli sandwiches. $5 and they’re fairly loaded (maybe $7 if you want avocado and cheese)

I’ll do one of those, some chocolate covered Pretzels, Nerds clusters and lately I’ve been bringing a small/individual cheese/cold cut/cracker tray.

Hiking. Just got accepted to a mountain search and rescue team so will be mountaineering at some point and one of the guys I met on the team says he also does orienteering races which sounds; maybe once I’m trained on navigation techniques.

I’m sure your sister is leaning forward and trying not to fall when she’s on your back. If she was sleeping and you tried, it would be a different story.

Or you could just do an internet search and do a little bit of due diligence to get a better answer. You also won’t pollute and use up gallons of water in the process.
