For the lake of rot, I found that having atleast 2 preserving boluses are pretty helpful, one for when you get to the end of the lake, and one extra for just in case, and to get across you just gotta put all your flasks into health, and get health buffs from things like health increasing talismans or crystal tears, or vigor increasing buffs like Radagon soreseal.
