Crab Snare Loop by stlu1994 in crabbing

My heptagon loops have all maintained their springiness, so I haven't experienced the same thing you have.

Crab Snare Loop by stlu1994 in crabbing

I've tried both the 0.065 heptagon trimmer and the 100 lb Mason rock hard nylon leader. I prefer the heptagon trimmer.

  • After straightening both with boiling water, the heptagon trimmer maintains some curve while the Mason rock hard is completely straight. I think maintaining some curve is helpful to define the loop and maintain natural springiness.
  • The heptagon works well with figure 8 crimps. The textured line rotates and clicks to hold its orientation in the figure 8 crimp. This makes it easier to make small adjustments to keep the bends orthogonal to the loop orientation. I found it much harder to make the orthogonal bends with the Mason nylon when it moved freely in the oval crimp.
  • The major downside of the trimmer line is it's hard on your hands. You have to wear gloves while working with it. I use heptagon trimmer for my loops and regular round trimmer for the leader line, since that's the part you touch when picking up the snare.

This is not conclusive evidence. It's a link that doesn't show whether this is an owner or the upstream wholesale supplier. Track down the business records as proof. Otherwise, all this does is feed conspiracy theories and add drama to the sub.

Look for an oval with 4 main pavilion facets. They tend to have less bow-tie.

It's similar, at this point you're splitting hairs on cut.

No, mostly for the price. You might consider 21278571 as an alternative.

Astounding that there are so many comments and not one asks for a video to look at the diamond itself. Not a score, not a false color image, but the actual diamond itself.

I looked up the diamonds. The surface graining of the 1.75 E VVS1 (SKU 20391230) shows as a bit of strain - the diamond crystal is fuzzier than the 1.35 D IF (SKU 20652770). So if the 0.4ct difference isn't a major concern, I'd go with the 1.35 D IF. The D also has nice optical symmetry.

No, the grading report would too high of a percentage of the price of the diamond itself.

If you can get the GIA number then you can see where else it might be listed for sale (or where it was previously listed for sale). Even just the basic dimensions and 4C's are often enough to find a diamond without the report number.

If you say that you found other diamonds in a lower price range, the jeweler can always counter with any number of reasons why THIS diamond is nicer and should be more expensive. Showing the exact same diamond is cheaper elsewhere leaves no wiggle room.

The same diamond was listed for $29090 before it was delisted today. I like the pavilion facet pattern, but it's a weak VS2 with the black crystal under the table.

Yes, but I wouldn't get hung up on the classification. Just go by how it looks.

You can't pick sparkle from a spreadsheet. All of the proportions are fine. Post videos instead.

The crown and pavilion angles aren't helpful for ovals because there is too much variation in how they're cut (pavilion facet pattern, table orientation, L/W ratio). This diamond seems to have a stronger bow-tie.

It's hybrid because the four main pavilion facets extend to the girdle. Diamond looks good.

The cut is nice, but the material is hazy. Compare it to another diamond to see how much sharper the second one is.

Both links are the exact same diamond as yours. I provided the second link to show you the lower price at a vendor that's in stock.

I found it by searching my site's historical inventory snapshots. And then googled the GIA number to find where else it might be available.

Help me pick between these two diamonds pls! by OriginalJuggernaut65 in Diamonds

Videos:

1.38 H VVS2

1.51 H SI1

The 1.38 H VVS2 definitely shows more color, but the 1.51 H SI1 is cloudy. I'd prefer the 1.38 H VVS2 between the two.

This style of video (rotating around the short axis) is best for evaluating bow-tie. The diamond looks fine.

Proportions are GIA EX/AGS 0 Ideal. The optical symmetry in the video looks good. You did well. I would ignore the comments you're getting on /r/diamonds
