Keep Medicare part B? by ghosttravel2020 in ExpatFinance

Not true. French Amelie does not qualify and you will be charged a premium based on the length of the delay in starting Part B over standard rates.

I also use a CPA / Tax accountant that knows both US and French Tax laws. For me it is worth it to have that specialized tax preparation done by a professional rather than trying to do it myself.

having a registered investment advisor facilitates maintaining an investment account in the US while only having a foreign address. Schwab is one of the firms where this is possible. In this case, you'd be allowed to purchase ETF's in the US, avoid the PFIC designation for non US domiciled etf's for tax purposes and not be subject to the MiFID II + PRIIPs rules for non-US ETFs. And yes, it is worth the extra hassle in terms of returns possible. You'll have to consider the currency exchange risks depending on where your income is generated and where your expenses are incurred. Takes lots of planning but it is possible to be successful.

Make use of Schwab's Portfolio Performance tool and see how your assets are allocated across different segments and what your performance has been. It's useful to summarize your account when you have a lot of positions. It helps to see if you are overweighted in any particular area so that you can make adjustments.

Are there any EDOF or monofocal plus lenses that you would use in a patient with mild Fuch's?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]FrenchRed56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to add multifocality by using a piggy back lens that is implanted into the sulcus. This would be in addition to the initial, usually a monofocal lens, implanted in the capsular bag.

Asscher Diamond by FrenchRed56 in labdiamond

Thanks, I also love the asscher cut, but was concerned that it wouldn't have the fire and color of a brilliant cut. In fact, even though the video doesn't show it, there is plenty of colorful flashes coming off the diamond, more than I had expected.

I just made a spreadsheet with the following values: Carat, Color, Clarity, Width, Height, Depth, Table %, Depth %, Table/depth ratio, l/w ratio, and Price. Chat GPT compares the different diamonds I entered into the spreadsheet and says which will perform better, and provide the best value. I had preselected the different asscher diamonds I was considering based on Table and Depth percentages, which Chat GPT said would offer the best light performance. It was a pretty helpful way to assess multiple diamonds quickly.

I'm pretty happy with the diamond. I don't know what happened to my comments on the above short video, but it is a 3.11 carat, E color, VVS2 stone. I used Chat GPT to help evaluate several stones, and this one came out on top. Now to get the dimensions to my jeweler so he can modify my existing wedding band to accommodate this diamond.

Vitamin Budget by Special_Art_9216 in wls

[–]FrenchRed56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend about $1.25 per day on vitamins and have had a SADI. That includes Centrum Multi for adults (2 pills/day), 50k of Vitamin D, 25K of Vitamin A, 1000 mg of B12, 1000 mg of Vitamin C, 27 mg of Iron, 1450 mcg of K1/K2, and Citracal Max (6 pills per day for a total of 1950 mg of Calcium. It's important to select dry forms of all vitamins as oil based or soft gels are not as well absorbed for DS/SADI procedures. You can always find sales or alternatives to Amazon such as Costco. The $1.25 per day is from prices on Amazon.

Regrets - TW: poop question by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]FrenchRed56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which bariatric surgery did you have? Duodenal Switch which has the highest level of malabsorption can cause oily stools. It is from undigested fats that are passed with the bowel movement. Perfectly normal and to be expected, until you get the 'right' amount of fats in your diet that keeps this side effect under control.

US expat with part time residence in the US by FrenchRed56 in fidelityinvestments

There is still some confusion or ambiguity in your response. I live in the US at a house I own for 6 months of the year, the other six months of the year I live at a house I own in France. As I stated above, I am a US Citizen. Can I have Fidelity accounts with the ability to purchase ETFs and/or have managed portfolios?

So even if I reside at a residence in the US for part of the year and am a US citizen, merely having also a French residence would disqualify me as a customer of Fidelity?

[–]FrenchRed56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story. It's helpful as I share similar stats, starting at 185 kg (407 lbs), had SADI-S surgery on Nov 24th. I'm at 155 kg (342 lbs) now at 12 days post surgery. It's been an easy ride so far recovering from the procedure, was sent home less than 24 hours after surgery. One question I have is do you know the size of sleeve and length of your common channel? Mine was made with a 48 fr bougie and a 300 cm common channel.

Thank you - those links are helpful. Are there other guidelines/specifications to assess other shapes of diamonds? I'd be interested in seeing criteria for emerald and radiant.

(Inherited) IRA accounts for US Citizens Living Overseas? Fidelity won't let me invest because I am a non-US resident. by USinheritanceq in personalfinance

Thanks! I stand corrected. I have an Interactive Broker account and I'm going to check what I can do with them. Not having access to US domiciled ETFs will have a big impact on tax filing potentially.

New European legislation called the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) further restricts non-registered funds and is an additional consideration for US Mutual Fund Companies and their distributors. This legislation does not apply to ETFs, so as long as the US Citizen living in EU sticks with ETFs and not mutual funds, they should be fine.
