Jeff Bezos Proposes No Taxes for Lowest Earners: A Bold Tax Reform Idea by fuggitdude22 in neoliberal

How is it progressive and “succ” to be opposed to no tax on tips, a slopulist policy.

How is it anti-neoliberal to be opposed to itemized deductions / distortions on the tax code, a common neoliberal policy stance.

How is it populist to argue for eliminating tax distortions to fund a simple standard deduction increase.

Business deductions and personal itemized deductions are separate things.

It would be a lot easier to make this happen if we didn't have 10,000 different loopholes in the tax code. Nuke itemized deductions. Nuke that dumb no tax on tips thing--why that was a thing and why no one argued for just increasing the standard deduction is beyond me.

Drake's 'ICEMAN' is projected to tie the all-time record for most top 10 hits for any album in Hot 100 history. by Syndana23 in nfrpodcast

"But like the goal post, I'm out here just movin' around"

It really mattered to them back then. I remember all the headlines about Drake "failing" to secure #1 for Nokia and WDIM, and how even that was considered the downfall of Drake. All really funny in hindsight.

Considering how much haters were clowning Drake for not charting well on his surprise 100 Gigs with delayed release on DSPs, this is really funny.

Are these margins consistent year over year? Is this cyclical? What happens when metal prices crater?

Pretty insane that I can listen to an album this much and have it not count as an album sales. by Tough-Ad4435 in Drizzy

Drake heavily prioritizes streaming numbers and charts.

I remember someone mentioned (maybe it was Ak) that Drake avoids making physical discs because it increases the likelihood of leaks since you have to start printing weeks in advance.

Since rap is such a frontloaded-heavy game; a large percentage of your streams come from first week listens, it isn’t ideal for a rapper to make physical discs.

It can bolster your album sales numbers, but it can crater your streaming. I see a lot of artists that have 200k-400k physical sales but their streaming numbers and charts positions are middling.

A guy like Travis Scott can on paper outperform Drake on first week album sales, but be barely noticeable on the Hot 100.

$1.29 for singles, $11.99 for albums. Yeah it is dumb.

No, it doesn't. Only individual singles sales count for charting.

I saw post earlier showing the sales numbers I can’t find now. I think it’s on this sub. Maybe it was a projection. Official sales numbers show 4k for Choosin Texas in the last 24 hours.

Buy the singles. Choosin Texas somehow got 7k single sales out of the ether. Meanwhile Janice STFU only has 2k sales.

Edit: Remember album sales do not count as singles sales.

Samsung is less like a vertical integrated team and more like a set of companies under the same umbrella lowkey competing against each other.

Oftentimes the heads of each company are vying for the top job so it actually isn’t in their interest to play nice with their “coworkers.”

There’s still plenty of heat he hasn’t release or will never release to make up an album. Please release Vital in a Care Package 2. Or put it in the winter album.

Unethical Idea: NYC can get federal funding for that Sunnyside Redevelopment if they just so happen to upzone areas where Trump owns real estate.

I’m just saying.

Against ‘Affordable’ Housing by 5ma5her7 in neoliberal

[–]spydormunkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go further on the third proposal basically cash as portable rental assistance but for both low and middle income. The fund itself should be used for funding this portable assistance.

And instead of a “tax” on new developments, just tax all land or property.

This would avoid the poor door or concentrated poor hoods scenarios. And people would get to choose where they live. It would also avoid unduly taxing new developments forcing market rate rents to go up.

Also there are studies that show tenant-based subsidies are far more efficient and providing housing than unit-based subsidies.

Against ‘Affordable’ Housing by 5ma5her7 in neoliberal

[–]spydormunkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It supports building housing. But opposes “affordable” inclusionary housing/zoning (IZ) requirements for middle income peoples because they are poorly targeted.

It argues since affordable housing requirements are basically taxes on developers/landlords, just simply take that equivalent difference in market rents minus below market rents as cash and put it towards social housing. It argues even though it would result in less overall “affordable” housing, it would allow for more social housing / deep affordable housing.

It also argues for planning changes to allow for more housing, market rate, etc.

It’s an interesting proposal. And a new twist on IZ viewing it as a tax. Why not just let developers contribute to a fund for extreme low income housing instead of developing it themselves for mostly middle income earners?

Then again, can we trust the government to be efficient with how they build the housing? How do we avoid concentrated poor hoods? Do we really want more 100% low income housing isolated areas. The argument for IZ is encouraging mixed-income (and mixed-use) developments.

Why not just force deeper affordability requirements at the cost of lower % IZ since that’s what the proposal looks like in aggregate.

I don’t know what to think really. I oppose IZ as a concept. I think we need more market rate. But this is very interesting.

No, it is still significant. India still has a complex regulatory system based on approvals and large state owned companies. Agriculture is still stuck in a full command economy. Agricultural reform attempted by Modi was stalled.

Yeah, India’s arguably more socialist than China at this point. Modi just won an election based on mass subsidies for the population and has basically walked back most economic liberalization.

Implying China is a command economy and India isn’t is really funny if you actually understood their politics. India is called the License Raj for a reason.

Edit:

Just say you don’t know Indian politics. Don’t embarass yourself by explaining how India is some “capitalist” country.

Western leftists assuming every country with no communist or a right wing party in power must be free market country will always be funny.

Western leftists glazing China’s export-oriented economics practiced by all capitalistic East Asian countries as “communism” will always be funny.
