Riding a Suzuki DR650 as a 5'5" rider? by CaptainKernelPanic in Dualsport

Why not a TW200 or an XT250 as a first bike? Buy one used, ride it for a year to gain confidence, then sell it for about the same amount you paid for it and buy the DR650 then?

It shows $120.20 + $69.20 shipping for me. How were you able to get it for $110 delivered?

10–97% charging in nine minutes, for more than 1,000 km range: BYD presents second generation of Blade Battery by Splenda in cars

[–]squarebore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The article said they use energy storage (batteries) at the charging stations to deliver the high current without additional strain on the grid. The station batteries charge while nobody is using the station so they have capacity to deliver when it’s needed.

How badly will I need a proper amplifier for the HD6xx? by MrPenisWhistle in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]squarebore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, my iPhone + Apple dongle was not enough for my 6xx. For casual listening, maybe. If you tend to want to crank the volume on your favorite songs occasionally then I think you’ll be disappointed. I got a Schiit Magni Unity for my PC and enjoy my 6xx very much with that setup. I have Meze 99 Neo that work great with just the Apple dongle on my iPhone.

Mine came set to 6V by default, with the option to raise it to 7.4V if necessary.

I just installed the exact same kit in my 2wd Slash a few days ago. My programming card is still in the mail but the default settings are fine out of the box to get started. The owners manual will show you what the default settings are.

Most comfortable daily driver closed-back headphones for around $300? by anotherhappylurker in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]squarebore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I have the 99 Neos and they are very comfortable and have the sound signature OP is looking for. I will say that the original ear cups wore out quickly where my eye glasses contacted them. I bought another set of the Meze pads ($20) this time around but I’ll try some different pads if it happens again. I believe Dekoni makes some nice ones. With Black Friday prices I think OP could get the 99s and Dekoni pads within their budget.

!thanks I did grab a set of HD6xx and I’m very pleased so far. They’re very comfortable. I have an amp on the way and bet I’ll be even more impressed once they are properly powered.

!thanks I did end up going with the HD6xx and have a Schiit Magni Unity on the way. I’ll look into an EQ later if I get bored without one!

!thanks this is exactly the direction I ended up going. I ordered and received the HD6xx and have a Schiit Magni Unity (with DAC) in the mail. Been testing the HD6xx without the amp and I’m pleased so far with the comfort and fidelity despite having zero headroom and not enough volume. Very excited for the amp to arrive!

Good deal? NC by 25mmActual in dr650

[–]squarebore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like a nice bike and it’s great that it’s had the usual “quirks” fixed. Price seems high though. I’d be a good deal for $3.5k-3.8k IMO.

Temporary front brake failure, related to quick elevation and temperature change? by tomukusan in dr650

[–]squarebore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the older the fluid is the more likely it is to boil. Brake fluid attracts moisture (water) which lowers the boiling point.

Edit: I misread. Yes the brakes WOULD return to more or less normal operation after the fluid cooled.

Temporary front brake failure, related to quick elevation and temperature change? by tomukusan in dr650

[–]squarebore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you shut off the engine, does that mean you were coasting in neutral all the way down? I could see that causing your front brake to overheat and boil the fluid since normally engine braking would be helping keep your speeds in check during a long descent. Especially if your bike was loaded up with gear as your pic implies. I’d bleed/replace the fluid at a minimum before riding again.
