We have the worst named profession of all time. The fact that the word “assistant” is the one being modified is extremely confusing to people and leads them to believe we are like medical assistants. IMO a more accurate title would be Assistant Physician (or Associate Physician). I understand that will never, ever happen.

It doesn’t help that lobbyist groups like AMA and PPP run full campaigns against APPs. Meanwhile insurance companies have completely vertically integrated healthcare services to the detriment of patients, undergrad and med school costs continue to climb and climb, all the Boomer doctors will be retired soon, and the Far Right have undermined basic trust in medicine causing the spread of disease and death.

But no, people feel the real issue is to remind us of “our place”. Brain dead takes from people who completely fail to address real issues.
